Adam Doueihi #227

Adam needs to provide a point of difference in our backline. Everyone runs a roughly 70 degree angle and are easily picked off in defence.
Very rarely does anyone straighten the attack. When we do play straight, we have enough talent to create space. There is however one thing that no one in our backline ever does….run the hero line - The outside in line that Boyd Cordner used to great affect.
Doueihi could have defences worried if he came back against the grain with his speed and size, putting defenders in two minds and stopping them automatically sliding to easily shut us down. Even if used as a decoy on this line he would cause concern.
At the moment, everyone runs parallel towards the corner post. It’s very predictable.

Agree plus he can kick and throw cut out passes which adds further impetus to shut him down, hopefully creating gaps elsewhere.

We can argue about the role of forwards, but I’d love to see a few of them emulate Dean Young’s attacking prowess.

He used to create havoc.

I agree but I think the halves tends to run a bit sideways which cramps the outside backs. Douiehi often cuts back in through necessity.
If Douiehi can get a bit more space, I think he would run a much better line or set his winger up more often.

Scoring points and creating attacking opportunities has not been a problem since Doueihi’s return and that has a lot to do with him due to his strong ball running and tackle busting quality.
Yes he needs to improve a lot defensively, but his lateral movement issues have a lot to do with his ACL injuries and if we go off yesterday against the Rabbitohs there was hardly any defensive issues down his side, so that may indicate his confidence in defence is improving.
If we are being serious Doueihi is the least of our problems.

Yep.

The first port of call in this storm is to get the optimum game from as many players as possible for the full 80.

Footy IQ and reducing errors would be a good start.

We need to harness the limited ability we have and that’s what I’m a bit disappointed.

I’m not suggesting our roster is paved with gold.

I’m pretty sure Benji is of the same mind.

As I keep saying a good coach can potentially fix an individual players defensive inadequacies in a week, it can be near impossible for even a good coach to fix an individual players attacking inadequacies.

Why is he playing first grade if he still has confidence issues around his ACL …that you say is the reason for his defensive issues ? Souths didn’t need to attack his side yesterday given the deficiencies on the other side …doesnt really put him in the clear though …we will see what happens next week if changes are made on the other side … i think his attack is nothing worth being positive about these past couple of weeks … he doesn’t like passing the ball much does he ?

He has played one decent game since he has been back … I know that’s the same as Toa has played in his career to date in the NRL ..but I’m thinking I’m just about ready for him to come back and get rid of the other bloke

Just because you keep saying it does not make it true!!

Defence requires the right attitude - and that is not something you can teach or something that Doueihi has ever possessed!

As for learning attack - Cooper Cronk and Isaah Yeo prove that you can teach a SMART player how to ball play at an elite level!!

What a load of bullshit!

He is the weakest link and our defence has demonstrably regressed since his return from injury!!

You cannot hide a weak link in a chain comprising 13 links - and he is the breaking point for this team!!

We would have been better off putting the witches hat out rather than the online defence from your man yesterday, cost us 4 tries.

im with ya Snidest.Dwayhehe is a bum, smart head in a young left side, those kids looked good tearing thru the wabbits backline 4 60 minutes,he is a hog n plays the hero play 97% of the time is it a lack of awareness.cant wont pass n breaks the play down,to his credit he dose the occasional smart play, but naahhh

I Don't know why AD is getting so much hate..

Guy is like 4 games back from 3rd ACL and IMO looks very good.
He is such a good offensive player and does need to work on defence but so does the whole team.

We have no problems scoring lately and he adds that extra dangerous player out there for defences to watch.

Been the excuse for him the last 4 years

probably because he finally finds some ticker but still dont cut the mustard, all that hype and is allways been talk, leader of the club, teach them yng fellas etc, etc, talk the talk, shut up ,lead by example.he seems to have found a love/job.rant over lol

that left side of kids (fb 5/8 9 winger tore that side up,Doueihi plays somewhat like Bateman - stiffles play at times, most of the times, then does something really smart and tricks the brain into thinking their worth while sticking around.maybe Robbie can dust off the shops front window on his way out and Richo go's halves in a xmas cracker with the financially blessed, bloody over fighting 4 kitchen scraps

And how many weeks has douehi been at the tigers
Defence should be rock solid

We have our fair share of players who cannot attack or defend, Doueihi is at least a very good attacking player and his defence is a mindset that he does get right at times, so no reason why he cannot get it right nearly all of the time.
I get your point but I don’t think it’s as simple as a week
Mindset is not a strong area at the tigers
