Adam Doueihi #227

I say good luck to Adam if he gets $500k per season for 2 years at the Dragons. We have low balled him, which is insulting at $350 for 1 year. Now we come up to 2 years after he had a blinder yesterday, still at $350k. More insult. We are club that never been able to manage players true value over the years. Onnly need to look at all the good players that have left. We like to pay overs for duds.
If the dragons are the only other club with an offer with 500k then that’s on them. Interesting dragons coach has the same manager as douehi. Win win for Cove Agency.

He hasn’t been pretty poor for 5 seasons though … been one of our best when fit.
He’s had some real bad performances during the last 5 seasons. Yes he’s had good games as well not every game he’s played has been bad, but I think most fans know AD hasn’t played like he has this season. He was decent in 2021 up until his ACL injury I’ll give him that, but his record is definitely worse than good. Just because he’s been better this year doesn’t outweigh the previous 5 seasons of average/poor performances with the occasional good/solid ones.

He'll get more money than that whether he stays or goes.
Yea I mean we signed Jock Madden for 350!

Perth will be able to offer that if more I suspect.

Aside from Issac Moses, who heck is a poor AD decision that we shouldn't reward. ...
AD has again gone from Right Center where we want him to "playing in the halves". Yes our 5/8 position is more open and AD + Luai seems to be working as a halves pair.

This shows the fragility of Latu Fainu. He has a stack of talent but I don't see a player who can move the team around... Number 14 is Latu's best spot for now and injecting him in makes sense.
One thing for AD is he has that commanding structure. He will want to move the team around and be in control, something Brooks doesn't have. Luai has it, but not every game...

Things start becoming very expensive.. Luai 1m, Latu 500k and possible upgrade, AD could get 600k on the market... were easily over 2m on our halves and I don't think they are worth it.

This is all true.

However we are not hiring him from 5 seasons ago. Were hiring him "Now" and were hiring him "2 years into the future".
He may shrug off in a few weeks once his contract is signed...He may continue his current performance... That's what were hiring him for.

He is flakey, he is brittle but he can sometimes perform the house down. Gah.

The salary cap is 12m. 450k is just over 1/30th of it. For a guy who can play several positions at a fringe first grade level, offers utility value and could end up good at 13, which is now a key position, it's fine.

We gave Jack Bird 450k a year for 2 years. What is better than Doueihi at?
Believe Bird was 450 total, so 225 each year. Why I don’t have any issues with Bird, believe he preforms to that level.

Over the years, I’ve been a critic of his no doubt. People were telling me pre knee injuries he was our best player and I didn’t see it. I also didn’t agree with it for the reasons you have outlined.
That said, I truly believe he has been in our top 3 this year and some games were won on his performances. That can’t be said for any of our more fancied halves.
He has often been accused of lazy defence and that’s true, however not much this year at all. He is also accused often of being slow. Maybe laterally, but in a straight line, he is very fast and has proven that quite a few times over the past 18 months.
His attitude has really improved and if that’s due to him sitting out for a few years injured and readjusting his goals then I’m all for it. The guy is one of our best this year. That is usually rewarded.

It’s not all about the money , a simple question
Does AD add to our team , is the team better with him in it
I say yes and that’s why dragons are after him he will improve their team
AD is in our top 3 or 4 players this year and was good last year it’s a no brainer to keep him for 2 even 3 years 450 , 450 , club option , Latu , Sullivan are both on more and both are not even close to AD worth to our team. Benji needs to Stand up to Richo on this one

Agree & very aligned to pre and now thoughts.

He has put the effort in, moved positions without fuss and hasn’t shirked his load if anything he has improved as the season has gone on regardless where he plays.

His defensive improvements and rush back to position have had a massive uplift.

We need NRL players who can make things happen on their own, AD is one of those few we have.

He deserves a contract extension.

His play for the 1st try was very Yeo like and wouldn’t mind seeing him do more of that in the red zone for us.

Don’t doubt Douiehi is inconsistent but I don’t think he is just playing for a contract in the sense he will tank if we give it to him. No doubt he is trying to prove his worth - I respect that.

I’d go two years at 450. Anything more it starts getting pretty tricky.
Hey... Dumb question?

We just lost a guy called lachlan Galvin
We also lost a guy called Tallyn Da Silva

I believe Lachlan was on 300K/ TDS on something??

That should give us maybe 200k in cap space.. ? (as they have played over 1/2 the year already).

How much unspent cap do we have this year?
Were not signing anyone till November. Why not frontload AD!
2 years at 300k + here is 200k (or even more) we haven't spent this year.

Would assume they’ve been front loading Jayden Sullivan and or Royce hunt tbh.

Re effort we were up 28-8 game over, Curran charge down and AD was the one chasing back and came very close to preventing the try.

AD of years before 100% wouldn’t have been chasing.

Have no idea if it’s a confidence due to injury free run, Luai effect of never giving up, coaching staff or playing for a contract or everything combined but that one play alone showed the improvement I want to see in all our players. Being hungry right to the bell.
