Adam Doueihi #227

Hang on, did Doueihi say he's looking forward to working with Robbie as our assistant coach? I figure Robbie will be around, all good, but is that official?

Is Robbie Farah one of our assistant coaches?

"Ambassador role" I believe was the reason for the fine..... Doesn't mean he can't be there to give a few pointers also.

Wests Tigers new recruit Adam Doueihi explains his excitement for the challenge to be working under Michael Maguire again.

After arriving late last week on an immediate release from the South Sydney Rabbitohs, Doueihi said he had hit the ground running in pre-season to put himself in the best possible position come Round 1 on March 15,

“I’m very relived — it’s been a few stressful weeks for myself and my family and it’s obviously a tough time to go through,” said Doueihi.

“Lucky enough Wests Tigers came into the picture and I’m lucky enough to be here.

"It's time to start fresh again, earn some respect off my teammates and coach and do my best for the club.”

It's time to start fresh again, earn some respect off my teammates and coach and do my best for the club.

Adam Douehi
Returning to play under Head Coach Michael Maguire — who first signed him to the Rabbitohs as a teenage rookie in 2016 — Doueihi explains he is excited to see where his leadership will take him.

“I’ve known Madge and I know what he’s like as a coach," he said.

"I’ve always wanted to work under him at a first-grade level long term. He’s here now and at my old club... I guess fate plays a part and I’m fortunate for that."

A Balmain junior before switching over to the Rabbitohs in the early years of his career, Doueihi said he was simply focused on earning his spot in the Round 1 side.

“For the past few years I’ve been thrown around in a number of positions and I think now it’s really time to settle down and find myself a position," Doueihi said.

"Whether that be at fullback... I hope it is [but] Corey Thompson did a great job for the team last year and if he gets first crack, I’ll take my hat off to him.”

“Wests Tigers — being my junior club it’s always in the back of my mind that I want to come back here one day but I obviously never thought it be this early. Me being the new kid here I will obviously have to try and learn my stripes and respect off the playing group and off the coach during the trial games.

“I’ve been in with the coaches doing extras and try to get up to speed with all the players and defensive structures I need to learn and what out attack structures are like. We’re a month off Round One and I’ve got a bit of time to learn so it’s a good challenge for me to have and one I’m looking forward to.

"This is my first real full preseason after Christmas and I think it's the best and fittest I’ve felt," he added. "Friday's session was a bit more intense than what I was doing but I know what Madge is like — he's all about hard work and discipline.

"I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

Ticking boxes so far!

i know interviews don't mean much and i usually refrain from thinking too much of media articles but "it's a high pressure industry and i like the pressure" is very promising. we've had too many soft cubs at this club always looking for the easy way out. tedesco, moses, woods, matterson all left because they wanted others to win it for them. Douehi has likely knocked back the roosters coz he wants to take the tigers forward, he wants to win the premiership with the team rather than have the team win it for him.

I agree he is saying all the right things and seems to have is heart in the right spot, but the Chooks offered him 2 years and a crack at a centre position vacated by Trell, we offered him four years and a real chance to by the no1...no brainer

I’ve banged on a couple of times about culture and the need for culture change. Well this is how you do it - bring in people with traits the opposite to what the organisation is known for. Could be called the ‘Castanza’ principle. (For Seinfeld fans)

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/how-farah-helped-deliver-doueihi-to-wests-tigers-20200203-p53xcm.html

Robbie Farah played a huge role in delivering Adam Doueihi to Wests Tigers and getting him to ignore the Sydney Roosters' sales pitch from his famous uncle Michael Cheika.

Doueihi revealed Farah had been in contact up until the day he signed a four-year deal with the Tigers, and the chance to work under him, and alongside Benji Marshall, was too good to refuse.

The premiers came close to pinching Doueihi from bitter rivals South Sydney - and even called on former Wallabies coach Cheika, his uncle, to help seal the deal.

"The deal at the Roosters was for two years. I met with 'Robbo' [Trent Robinson] and he was one of the nicest humans I had ever met,'' Doueihi, 21, told The Sydney Morning Herald.

"Of course Michael is there once a week, and he was in my ear because he was working there and we're related. He told me the Roosters were one of the best set-ups across the country and how winning back-to-back premierships wasn't easy.

"But I always had a soft spot for the Tigers, and my gut was telling me to come here. Robbie thinks he got the deal done for me, but he was a huge factor for me. He was always calling me. I have a close friendship with Robbie and my parents know him pretty well as well.

"He's been travelling everywhere to watch the Australian Open and now the Super Bowl, and he kept giving me advice.

"Robbie said to go with my gut and see what happens here. The thought of getting to work with him [in an assistant coaching capacity] this year and with Benji, two of my childhood heroes who I looked up to, it's exciting.

"When I signed I spoke with Robbie. He was in Miami and was looking forward to seeing me again in the black and gold.''

News of Doueihi snubbing the premiers for the joint venture will please fans, who are still hurting from Roosters chairman Nick Politis luring star fullback James Tedesco to Bondi a couple of years ago. It was Farah who initially convinced Tedesco to backflip on a Canberra deal and stay put at Concord.

Doueihi, a Balmain junior, said there were no hard feelings with Souths coach Wayne Bennett, who told him he would wear the No.6, only to re-sign Cody Walker, then offered him the No.1 jersey - until Latrell Mitchell arrived.

Walker, Adam Reynolds and Damien Cook went out of their way to regularly check on Doueihi. He confirmed there were tears when he broke the news of his departure last week. He said had he addressed the players as a group, ''I wouldn't have got a single word out''.

Not only was Doueihi and Bennett's frank conversation well documented, so was the youngster's pay packet, which puts big pressure on a player entering just his third year in the NRL.

"But it's why you play the sport, it's a high-pressure industry, and I like the pressure,'' said Doueihi, who will wear the No.1 jersey. "It only makes me want to put in extra to help the club be successful.

"It will be a challenge this year. Last year this club was just one win away from the eight, and only three points behind Souths. Madge [Michael Maguire] is all about hard work and discipline, two traits I have, and while it's in the back of my head the club hasn't made the finals in a while, I'll be putting in the hard work to help bring this club some success.''

Doueihi will also take over goal-kicking duties. He worked with the club's premiership No.1 Brett Hodgson during last Friday's first session.

Well done to Robbie, still fighting for the tigers cause. AD is going to be a gun for us.

true, but at the roosters he's more likely to win the premiership in next 2 years than he is to win at the tigers in the next 8 years even.. but yeh i'd still take everything with a grain of salt

He gets a big tick ✅ from me. Saying all the right things. I wasn’t overly enthusiastic about him but he is winning me over. Now for good field performances and I will be sold.

Adam Doueihi, Josh Reynolds and Zane Musgrove to feature in this weeks trial game - Benji and Joey will be rested. (SMH)

I honestly don’t get the love for Doueihi at fullback. He as slow as a wet week, and his positional play at fullback is terrible. With the two tries from kicks Cronulla scored today he was nowhere to be seen. He doesn’t seem to be a typical supporting playing fullback either.

I can’t see him as fullback in a premiership winning team.

What am I missing? Can someone enlighten me in what they see in him please.

Don't agree. Both the Cronulla tries off kicks were down our right side. Doueihi was nowhere to be seen because that isn't his territory. If you're going to blame someone for those tries look at Nofoaluma.

Disagree. Cronulla's kicking game was smart in that they were going a couple of passes wide before the kick which (along with BJ constantly racing up at no-one) drew Nofa up opening space behind him. He can't be up in the line & back covering kicks, it is the fullback's role to get across in cover for those sort of kicks, which he did well once when taking the ball into touch from a dangerous kick.

Thank you ...saved Typing...

Dugan's 1st TRY came from a very smart kick by Graham not on tackle 5 the edge was defending as the should in a line..Leilua rushed up and Nofoaluma went with him...this made it easy for Graham but it was still a great play..very hard to defend as Doueihi was in feild from the previous play

The second came on the 5th Tackle which Cronulla started their attack on the right...Nofoaluma dropped back like every single winger in the NRL does to get in position to defend a kick on the last..they ran it..Leilua... Dugan's man went up and took no one..leaving Marshall and Nofoaluma to attempt to stop him..they couldn't..

I'm all for criticising Nofoaluma (see Knights game) but it gets frustrating when a team scores a TRY down that side and it's a simple out to heap all the blame on Nofoaluma..

Doueihi warmed into the game ..more game time they get together the better they'll get..
