Melbourne Storm bound flyer Josh Addo-Carr plans a Wests Tigers return

OUTGOING Tigers flyer Josh Addo-Carr says his career with the club is not over — vowing to return at some stage in the future.

Addo-Carr is leaving the Tigers with a heavy heart after inking a three-year deal with the Storm from next season. While the 21-year-old has reaffirmed his commitment to joining Melbourne, he left little doubt about his love for the Tigers.

“I’ve enjoyed my time at the Tigers,” Addo-Carr said. “I love this club. I’ll end up back here. I love the boys, I love the staff. Hopefully I come back in the future.

“I love a challenge and it’ll be a good challenge for me and moving away from family and friends. I’m looking forward to the move down to the Storm but I have a job here to do first and try to play finals football.

“It was a massive decision for me and my family. I’ve got to do what’s best for myself. I’m not around the game forever.”

Addo-Carr is hoping he gets another shot at Leichhardt Oval.
Addo-Carr knows he is on borrowed time at the Tigers. A loss against the Warriors will end the club’s hopes of a finals spot, leaving him with just one more game to play before his off-season switch.

“We’ve got a small chance of making the semis and we have to play our best to make finals football,” Addo-Carr said. “Coming into the Warriors game we need to take every opportunity. Last week we let ourselves down.”

The game in New Zealand will be Addo-Carr’s eighth this year since making his debut in round seven, and he has scored five tries. Addo-Carr said the decision to join the Tigers from the Sharks this year was easy.

“When I found out the Tigers wanted to sign me I took it straight away,” Addo-Carr said. “I’ve gone for this club my whole life.

“Every opportunity I’ve got I’ve tried to take it with both hand. I’ve had my ups and downs.”

So how did we botch this re-signing, and the money he was chasing to stay was $300k over 2 seasons, $120k next year, and $180k the year after.

I have no idea 851, but it's complete incompetence! The guy loves the club and is desperate to stay and we let him go - for 3 long years!!

This will come back to bite us on the ass, I have no doubt, but never fear we have heaps of speedy wingers with the Xfactor just waiting to step up into grade next season don't we? Ah there's….Rankin? And..... 😕

He still clearly doesn't want to go. Good knows why any club that's signed a player wouldn't just give them the release they clearly want after those sorts of comments.

Family is here and the kid never wanted to leave. I know his uncle through work and we were short on the salary by a small amount however, JT doesn't rate him at all and Sandercock/Buckets were supportive of his time in first grade. He didn't feel valued by the club and back doored it to Melbourne.

Cant really blame him in this situation if your coach is luke warm on you and your off contract when Bellamy calls with a sales pitch you go to the Storm. I think we are making a huge mistake with this kid I have been following him through the 20s and he is a freak in the making.

That is a shame that Taylor does not rate him. I guess that is obvious with him persisting with Rankin.

The problem will be Bellamy will make him a better footballer and it will cost us more to get him back….depending of course whom the coach is.

So Taylor never rated him, what a muppet JAC's clearly a better option than Rankin.

JAC is a gun, I hope he does stay however it seems unlikely.

I know this may sound silly, but who would consider getting a petition to show our support to JAC, maybe convincing the club us fans want him to stay and to do what it takes to keep him not to the extreme tho.

As they say … The pen is mightier than the sword ....he's gone .

This is another show of ineptitude by our club - or Taylor advising the board he wasn't in his plans at all.
Either way it's a ridiculous decision.
If you can't see the kid, and people forget he is still only a kid, has got real talent then you're blind.
Plus he loves the Tigers.
Not to worry, we still have that other speedster Rankin on the books.

I'd sign it, I sent an email to the club about 3 months ago about JAC and how disappointed I was..

Coach's call on this, what a fine collection of dud calls JT is accumulating. :astonished:

I thought I read that the deal went through when Pascoe was away, even though he had said not proceed till he was back. But he signed on the dotted line, too little too late.

I think this will be one that we will regret, just seems strange seeing how much he loves the club.

Mark O'Neill had the final say on recruitment and retention at the time..It is his brief as General Manager Football Operations…

I agree. I wasn't happy about this one and I imagine if the story about Pascoe is true he'd be rope able. Anyway I hope Addo Carr has made his best decision and develops into a class winger.

Like most i am very disappointed. you dont get many wingers with has raw ability and pace come along.what makes it worse is that you know we have a slug on the wing who keeps on getting selected ahead of him

Sad to see him go because he obviously had talent and was only going to get better, but to point the finger at Taylor on what his uncle may have said is a bit rich. As another poster said another account of what happen was Pascoe was away and wanted to have last say and did not get the opportunity. Yes the club did bungle it, but who bungled it doesn't really matter, it is done
