Bennet sure knows how to build a team, but so too does our man Madge.

Absolutely, he sure seems to know who he wants. Unfortunately the feeling doesn’t seem to be mutual from the players.

What was Madge’s previous occupation?

I think he’s a very good coach but I don’t think people are lining up to play with him.

Avo, why do you think that’s the case?
I also think he’s a great coach and I like his style. I watch him in the box involved in every play like Bellamy. I love this in a coach because you always know what he’s thinking.

He’s basically been competing for players against Wayne Bennett this off season. Bennett is a coaching legend, who despite his age, players still respect and want to be coached by. Madge’s aura, credentials and man management don’t hold a candle to Bennett’s.

Ironically we were in contention to get Bennett onboard this time last year, but he chose Souths instead and we nabbed Madge. Be interesting to see if we would’ve attracted more players if Bennett was our coach, but this we will never know.

Bennett was doing exactly what players have done in using WT interest to leverage better deals elsewhere. We had no real hope of getting him.

As for Johnston, if he doesn't diss WT I've no problems with going after him later but if g e publicly diss's WT like Arrow did we should never consider him again. Pride guys.

Dad played for Souths, family supports souths
As soon as they came into the picture we didn’t have much of a chance.

And the kicker, Inglis played for Souths! He is a Demi god in the community. Squeaky clean, unassuming, an inspiration to those fallen on hard times, and a right arm fend that collected more silverware than Tigers supporters could dream about. Latrell is an inch shorter but has developed the right arm fend of his hero.
When Mr Mitchell’s sons started playing footy, one of them was going to be the next GI.

Inglis.. squeaky clean..... not even close

Had a chuckle with that one !

Still a mystery as to how Souths will fill them all under the cap.

*pulls up carpet and sweeps salary cap under*

What cap?

It's somewhere back in the past threads here, very basically he would rather go to mars than play for WT. I'm probably wrong in location mentioned but you get the drift.

I agree, what cap? Firstly Souths are supposed to show available cap space before NRL will register contract. If they have that already with no player shifted, both Johnston and gagai are within their rights to stay. I still find it incredulous and NRL HQ should really run a close look over Souths books, if it defies belief. Be a bit proactive there our moribund headquarters. To use the old saying it does not pass the old pub test. Vlandys first test I suppose.

Have to apologise on this one guys, doesn't look like it's happening now...

Was definitely on the cards but AJ wants to stay at Souths and fight.

Thank God for that. Hallelujah!!!!

He thought we were so rubbish that he’s decided to stay at his current club and potentially play reserve grade. Not something you should be cheering.

You are only saying that because he didn't come here and replace your mate Thommo at FB.

He didn't come because he knew he wouldn't be able to match Thommo as a FB and end up on the wing or in reserve grade Lol.

Lol what are you smoking, he’s a million times better than Thompson. He didn’t come here for the same reason other established first graders don’t, because he thinks we’re a joke

Final word from me - no, he is the joke.

Apart from speed - he would not hold a candle to Thommo.

That's why Souffs have been trying to off load him for 18 months and nobody but nobody wanted him. Not even us.

That is why he is staying at Souffs - for no other reason.

Only because I don't agree with you.

But it is my opinion and I am entitled to it. Thankyou and goodnight!

Anyone who thinks LM has taken a paycut is living in dream land. I'm sure rusty offered him a lot more than lobster tails and a marlborough suavignon blanc on his trip to coffs.

what did Arrow say?

It was something along the lines of he would rather play in Syria than for WT. There were a few good one liners from forumers at the time.

I'm going to go on record and say Latrell is the only potential Souths backliner that I'm enthused by or specifically impressed with. I don't know why all the fuss over their current backline and salary cap, because I'm fairly indifferent to some of their footballers.

Doueihi seems a really good kid, good footballing heart and grit. I think he lacks strength in the tackle and lacks finesse to his game. I would be fine if there was some deal with Tigers to get him back, but he's hardly setting the game alight and IMO no better a prospect than Momirovski already is, just different best positions. IMO Doueihi isn't that much better than Thompson either, just taller. I think too many people watched Doueihi in a few finals games and became enamoured.

AJ I don't rate, never have. He's got Tim Moltzen all over him, and yes he's scored tries backing up, so has Robert Jennings.

Campbell Graham - not seeing it myself. Big unit, still a kid, fast enough. Absolutely no reaction whatsoever on his face during games, which I find odd. Where is the passion? Wayne tried him out at centers, I don't think he's your first-choice there. Got mauled by Roosters in last year's finals, so he needs more meat on that tall frame.

Braidon Burns - hasn't done anything of note. Was really really ordinary on debut but seems to have steadied himself into an ok centre of no particular merit or deficiency.

Jimmy Jet - every few years he hits a real peak and is nearly untouchable for half a season. Not sure if 2020 will be one of those years, but he's not getting any younger.

Dane Gagai - we all know, ace at Origin and extraordinarly average at club level.

Cody Walker - really likeable footballer, like an agile Cliff Lyons, absolute touch football talent. Typically cannot step up in the crunch games - finals, Origin. I like him a lot but he needs specific conditions to excel, like early season.

Adam Reynolds - unparalleled kicking capacity, so long as there is a platform. Tries hard the rest of times, decent little halfback.

Corey Allan - uninspiring so far. Can do a job at FB or wing or even centre, but far from impressive. Fairly ordinary defensively at FB.

Bryson Goodwin - back from the dead, no idea how he was going in UK.

That's their first tier backline options, overall I don't see the fuss.

Tedesco-Giraffe-Latrell-Manu-Morris-Keary-Cronk - now there is a star-studded backline to be complaining about.
