I feel like making them keep the Gagai and AJ contracts puts more pressure on them to keep their young talent like Douhie. Someone's not gonna be happy playing CC and I don't think Souths will love paying Gagai and AJ to play there.

Braidon Burns another to keep tabs on in this situation

No more nuffies !

Braidon Burns is solid imo

Why would Gags want to go anywhere half the pay. ???

He wouldn’t get paid half he would still get the original money he signed for but we would pay some and what ever we don’t pay south’s pay the rest

At what level does it become viable for Souths?

I have no idea just depends how desperate they are

If he goes anywhere he won't be on half pay - whoever takes him on will only do so with souffs topping up his contract to at least what he is on with them for the next 2 years.

I think if we really squeezed souffs we would get the pair for between 700 and 800k. Gagai has 2 years to run on his contract at the rabbits so a 2 year deal with them subsidising both years then cut him as he will be 31 and the younger brigade should be NRL ready. Johnston only has 1 year to run on his contract so we wouldn't want to offer too much if we keep him on for 2 plus years. He is 24 and has pace and an ability to score tries. Even if the addition of these 2 only pushed us in to the 8 it is a step in the right direction. We need to start showing that we are heading in the right direction instead of kicking stones because we missed the big catch. Gradual improvement and 2 top 8 finishes over the next 2 years coupled with the COE would give this club a new lease of life.

The only thing that I would squeeze at South's is their neck.

Zero tackle reckon he is on 700k. If thats the case i reckon we offer to take him if they stump up half for the next 2 years. 350 K would be a bargain. Same with Johnston although he is only contracted at souffs for one more year. No club is going to take either of them without souffs stumping up at least half their contract.

We pinned our hopes on juniors 5 years ago in Brooks Moses Tedesco and Sironen and Simona. When you put juniors into a struggling team their progress is stunted. We have Cap space now, we need to buy quality so when this new batch of kids comes
through, they're joining a solid side. Or well lose them like we did the last bunch.

Great call your spot on

That because our cap was shot, it’s not now.

We got rid of Matterson before November 1st so he didn’t count in the 2020 cap.

Even now it’s not as bad it was, there was a period of back ending deals killed us, could afford didley squat apart from our big name juniors, it was not intentional they had such a poor team around them, no mon no fun

Yeah he’s bloody good. He’s a better centre than Roberts or Gagai, he just has had some injury dramas. Souths won’t be offering him up, or Campbell Graham for that matter.

Was madge a fan of Jennings as well? We don't need a coach getting the band together for old times sake.

That did not work out well with Packer, Matulino etc

Jennings didn’t have a preseason before. He does now.
Few miss that - preseason is extremely important.
Judge him on this season - think we will see him improved.

He had a preseason with Souths, no excuses. He’s a dud buy.

He had a brilliant time at Souths. Not the best season with us but considering how many changes were done on our backline I wouldn't rule him out.

Agree. He was highly rated at Souths. Expecting improvement in 2020. He looks a million times fitter.

Bennett rated him that highly he wanted to get rid of him as soon as he got there.Lets hope he proves Bennett wrong this year because last year he showed Bennett was right

JOHNSTON STAYING PUT

ALEX Johnston has no plans to leave South Sydney, with the fullback intent on seeing out the final year of his deal.

Reported to be in the firing line as the Rabbitohs hunt Latrell Mitchell, Johnston is adamant he will be at Redfern this year.

Johnston’s manager Steve Gillis said the Rabbitohs were not attempting to move the speedster on. “No one has ever spoken to either him or me about it,’’ Gillis said.

“And I certainly have not had an offer from another club. He will be at Souths this year.’’

Do we only get 2 choices?
I think AJ has learnt a few tricks from master coach Bennet. Just give the msm journo something controversial and they go away happy.

This should make al the AJ hatters happy, after all there’s no way he could make our star studded backline
