"It is my understanding that he has agreed to terms with Manly for 2022 and 2023, but that is contingent upon a release in 2021," Hagipantelis said of the New Zealander who has played 90 games for the club since debuting in 2016.

So that’s what the stink was all about, getting an early release.

oh no its not Murdoch either !!!

Lets just release the entire team for 2021 and sit out the season.

I'm guessing they NRL didn't implement the "Matterson rule" which was talked about earlier in the year.

The only positive is it’s a position we have some sort of numbers in (prop). I hope the club stand firm

'I'll never wear the jersey again': Tigers rocked by 'perplexing' release request
By Michael Chammas
November 17, 2020 — 1.20pm

Wests Tigers prop Josh Aloiai has dropped a bombshell on the club, vowing to "never wear the jersey again" and demanding an immediate release to join Manly in 2021.

Tigers officials were left gobsmacked last week after one of their most committed players turned on the club in the hope of securing an immediate exit from the final year of his $350,000 contract.

Aloiai launched a fierce tirade against the Tigers just a month after his manager Tyran Smith approached the club for an extension, and two weeks after Smith emailed the club to tell them how well Aloiai had developed under coach Michael Maguire.

The sudden change of heart has caught the Tigers by surprise, especially considering how vocal Aloiai had been in support of the besieged Maguire throughout a turbulent season for the club.

Fed-up Wests Tigers officials privately believe the 25-year-old is taking a leaf out of Ryan Matterson's book and agitating for an early release because of a big-money offer at the Manly Sea Eagles.

"I find it very perplexing that only some four weeks ago, the player sat opposite to me and professed his love of the club and commitment," Wests Tigers chairman Lee Hagipantelis told The Herald.

"Now we have a situation where a form of release has been sought, with a view to taking up a contract elsewhere obviously for more money. It is curious as to how that seems to generate welfare concerns."

Aloiai's manager also looks after Addin Fonua-Blake, who was granted a release from Manly to join the Warriors on one of the most lucrative deals for a prop in the history of the sport.

Sources within the game were shocked that Manly were willing to release Fonua-Blake, the best prop in the game as voted by the players in a Sydney Morning Herald poll earlier in the year, for personal reasons without a replacement. However the recent events involving Aloiai could explain why.

"It is my understanding that he has agreed to terms with Manly for 2022 and 2023, but that is contingent upon a release in 2021," Hagipantelis said of the New Zealander who has played 90 games for the club since debuting in 2016.

"In my view he has a contract with the Wests Tigers which he will fulfil in 2021 unless I can leverage a commercial advantage for the club. The days of players, or others, thinking that they can use the Wests Tigers as a stepping stone are over."

The Tigers are still reeling from missing out on Josh Addo-Carr's services last week after his manager, Mario Tartak, managed to use the club's four-year offer to extract an upgrade from the Storm, despite the winger requesting a release on compassionate grounds to be closer to family.

It's likely the recent antics of Aloiai and his manager will make his position at the club untenable, but the Tigers will follow Melbourne's stance with Addo-Carr and will refuse to release him until they get an outcome they are happy with.

The Tigers have no shortage of front rowers with young Eels prop Stefano Utoikamanu and Penrith captain James Tamou set to join the team when they return to preseason training, bolstering a pack that also includes props Zane Musgrove, Alex Twal, Thomas Mikaele and Russell Packer.

So much damage is done to our club from players agitating like this. The players must know that, they just don't care. It makes me think very little of these players who do this. Aloiai, if this is true your name is about to be even more dirty than Matterson's is.

Manly lost AFB because to a bigger money deal so they turned around and did the same thing with josh... let’s see what we do now. Probably just release him and sign Mansour 😡

This off season is one of the the most depressing as a fan since the merger =p Difficult stuff haha. Aye curumba.

Schuster would be a good trade. I understand he has a family. If this is true, there is the right and wrong way of going about things. It seems WTs' signature of Tamou and Stefano has started a chain reaction.

This is why this club is improving, yet many on here (possibly Rothfield with 20 different accounts) refuse to accept.

Lee Hagipantelis - “In my view he has a contract with the Wests Tigers which he will fulfil in 2021 unless I can leverage a commercial advantage for the club. The days of players, or others, thinking that they can use the Wests Tigers as a stepping stone are over.”

if that doesn't give you a semi, then you arent a WT supporter.

We can point our figures at the players as much as we want. The fact is that we've had several over the last few years that thought airing their dirty laundry in the media was fine... at best, that is a severe lack of respect for the club. That's even including Chris Lawerence.

There is something in our management structure that means we're not earning that respect. I've had a few conversations with Pascoe and from some tidbits, I can see why.

To provide some insight into what I've seen - I actually called the club to try to add them to my will recently. Wanted to give $100k+ as part of the foundation. Justin was great and gave me a 1-on-1 call, walked me through the new COE video etc. but I still am yet to hear back from the club about which entity to put my money to (i.e. Foundation). This was 3-4 months ago.

Sure, it doesn't rank highly in terms of priorities, but it goes to the core of a real lack of urgency/professionalism that we're seeing here. I'm not going to donate now, and I can see why the players also feel this desire to pull away from the club.

Something in management needs to change. Is all this cost-cutting to remain profitable impacting our ability to respond quickly to important issues?

Interesting that the story on here emerged running with the sympathy card for Josh prior to this announcement. If you still don't think managers are running the game then you have got your head in the sand.
Don't blame Josh for taking the deal but back the club in not falling for the whole hard luck story. It's a professional game players need to learn to honour their contracts just like clubs have to pay them even way they play like rubbish.

I wonder if this is his manager being a pain, wanting more money not getting it and pushing for a release, or management upsetting him and making him want a release of a mix of both.

Oh well, it's not like we're short on props. He can wear a Magpies jersey all next season and Manly can have a bloke that hasn't played first grade for 18 months when he suits up for them in 2022. If he actually said he'll never wear the Tigers jersey again then he is a grub without honour.

HAHAH this makes me laugh. Have heard it all before.

"Commercial advantage", imagine how you'd feel if you were Aloiai.

I’d like say his manager is manipulating things to ensure Manly release Fonua-Blake to the Warriors. This smelt of player management manipulation from the start.

You know I've been thinking that there seems to be a lot of negativity around here lately from forum users I don't recognise. This is the one drawback of removing our post counts and join date from the postbit of the forum - that we don't get to verify who is a regular here.
