Tend to agree nil benefit in this, might just be media speculation coming from the players manager.

would it be to stop him turning out in any way shape or form for another club? NRL management would have to rubber stamp any new contract and if he burns us like it looks like he is going to do surely it would be in our favour to simply sack him for his contractual indiscretions...If we sacked him and the nrl let him sign with Manly it would be worse than farcical

His manager has been asked to come up with an offer to WTs. Aloiai's position is untenable. at WTs which is of his own making.

so he can offer the sum of this year's contract in cash? That would be all he could offer I would think.

This was advised on the other three. It could mean dollars or a player exchange but it would have to be attractive to the club.

So how would it work? Sorry for the questions but surely his manager wouldn't force Manly's hand at giving someone up for him? Aloiai would literally have no bargaining power. He would be on his knees to get out of the tigers begging Manly to do something the way i see it. We sack him for acting like a petulant baby, Manly try to register a contract for this year and NRL say no chance....Aloiai a year without pay

If we sack him:

1. We get his salary cap space back in our cap for 2021
2. He is ineligible to play for any club in 2021

So no, it means he loses a whole year's pay and footy and we can spend his cash elsewhere

It might serve him right but not sure that sort of resolution goes down well with players - the ones you have got, or the ones you are trying to attract. Best outcome if Manly can't offer anything is - mediation sort it out, honour your contract and then head to Manly in 2022.

Are we sure this is how it could go? There have been plenty of players sacked over the years, but only very few that the NRL would not register another contract for, and they usually were over very big drug and alcohol dramas.

I wouldn't have thought that a player refusing to train would fit into that category?

I think it means we whack him with a fine on the way out and have additional cash to splash. Still rather we negotiate a player exchange. We don’t seem to be able to entice players here with money.

Mate , you seem very young, so I’m not going to have a dig . But many young people , think they’re mis treated because they have a heightened sense of self worth , that’s not at all in line with reality . It’s why we all do stupid stuff in our teens and 20s , because we are all usually way too immature and self absorbed at those ages .
For example Josh and his supporters . The clubs first priority is the club . Because players come and go , and at the end of the day the brand and clothing standing for more . It’s not disloyal or disrespectful to offer 450k which is a 70k pay rise. Just because manly want to offer 700k Also doesn’t mean that that’s how much you’re really worth either . There’s no quality front rowers on the market for starters. They just lost AFB which is a huge hole to fill . They have to pry Josh away , so the also need to make it enticing . All these factors lead to him being offered 700k .
He can sit there and say , “how can manly offer 700k and the tigers offer 450k” , but the reality is they have to offer that to have any chance to pry him away .
If Manly offer 550k , maybe the tigers decide to go to 500k and call it a day. But by offering 700k , the get what they want , which is the tigers going , “nope that’s a bit too rich for me I’m out”:

It doesn’t mean the tigers don’t respect him , they just don’t think he’s worth that much ...... because he isn’t !!

Moses Suli was released by WT signed with Dogs and after 28 days was sacked then signed with Manly so why was he able to play?

I doubt this is correct. You get sacked you can apply for a new job that day.

Like I said , we benefitted by getting that salary off the books , and not having it come out of our cap, just say , he gets stood down for a fight at the pub for example . We’d have to apply for the money allocated in the salary cap during that period to be taken off the cap .
But because we benefit from freeing up that cap money , we don’t then have a right to stop him from working elsewhere. We can apply to the NRL if we feel strongly about it , but at the end of the day , it’s up to the NRL. Most of the time I doubt the previous team would care .

That’s the problem that is exactly what Josh wants to be sacked to go to Manly so we are just being walked over again. I’d just take the hit on the salary cap for the year. Once he realises he is not getting a release he will play

Im pretty certain if we sack him, we save his salary but he walks down the block to the sleagle's for 2021 - he and they are the winners - we get no compensation other than the saved salary so we are walked all over again.
he stays and plays cc or WT get adequate compensation - i.e a player swap

The post said he would be ineligible to play for another club in 2021.
How can the club apply to the NRL to stop him from playing for another club when he was terminated and is it legally even possible?
All I can see is he'll go on stress leave to work on personal issues and then he'll get a release and sign with Manly whilst no player swap will happen. Matterson 2.0

Yea I was agreeing with you about the contract situation. I was saying that applying for a deregister of the contract with the nRL is the only play , if you want to go down that path . But it’s with the NRL , so unless he gets a bit rapey ( just using a certain person all over the media right now as an example)in his spare time , I don’t think the NRL would sign off on it .

This has a very familiar theme to Maddison demanding money that again not warranted let’s wait and see if he turns up at training next week or get a doctors certificate. For stress we caused him ,maybe he should look at all the people that lost there job and business out of COVID 19 situations.and think how lucky he gets thousands of dollars a week to train and play footy.

I don't think sooky la la is grounds for the NRL to de-register a contract nor not register a new one..

Sacking/releasing Aloiai is what he wants ... doing so would give Wests Tigers the cap space and roster spot to fill..the other alternative is enforce his existing contract have a disgruntled player pull his finger out..seems to admire Madge so it's up to him..

This thread is getting out of hand -

The facts are that Josh asked for a contract pay upgrade. We offered an upgrade but he and his management didn't like it so they went fishing for more money.

Manly took the bait. Which I have no problem with.

What I have a problem with is the lack of respect that he's shown the Wests Tigers organisation and how his management has played games across media.

We nurtured and helped Josh hone his skills over 5 years and stood by him through all his injuries.

To throw mud in our face by saying that he'd never wear our jersey again and then post a childish instagram meme is rubbish.

@italian_stallion you're either new (and have no idea) or you're a stooge.

The Tigers have always considered our players, sometimes to the determinant of our club.
