This thread is getting out of hand -

The facts are that Josh asked for a contract pay upgrade. We offered an upgrade but he and his management didn't like it so they went fishing for more money.

Manly took the bait. Which I have no problem with.

What I have a problem with is the lack of respect that he's shown the Wests Tigers organisation and how his management has played games across media.

We nurtured and helped Josh hone his skills over 5 years and stood by him through all his injuries.

To throw mud in our face by saying that he'd never wear our jersey again and then post a childish instagram meme is rubbish.

@italian_stallion you're either new (and have no idea) or you're a stooge.

The Tigers have always considered our players, sometimes to the determinant of our club.

aha.... @italian_stallion only joined a few weeks ago, only posts in Aloiai thread.... nailed it I think

Can someone explain to me what "sacking" him and terminating his contract does for us?

I assume it only allows him to just get a new contract at Manly without us receiving any commercial benefit?

If we sack him:

1. We get his salary cap space back in our cap for 2021
2. He is ineligible to play for any club in 2021

So no, it means he loses a whole year's pay and footy and we can spend his cash elsewhere

If that's the case than that's what we should be aiming for

Clarkey is an idiot. I can’t believe people think he’s actually got a good footy brain and knows what’s he’s talking about. Some of his opinion pieces are literally laughable they’re that bad so he’s got no clue what’s going on he’s just guessing

Only reason I follow him is for player Q&A’s and the fact he posts articles behind paywalls sometimes.

Any idiot can get followers

We need to get the best deal for WTs via his manager providing a red hot offer. This doesn't have to involve punishing Aloiai but should involve some pain for his manager.

Moses Suli was released by WT signed with Dogs and after 28 days was sacked then signed with Manly so why was he able to play?

Like I said , we benefitted by getting that salary off the books , and not having it come out of our cap, just say , he gets stood down for a fight at the pub for example . We’d have to apply for the money allocated in the salary cap during that period to be taken off the cap .
But because we benefit from freeing up that cap money , we don’t then have a right to stop him from working elsewhere. We can apply to the NRL if we feel strongly about it , but at the end of the day , it’s up to the NRL. Most of the time I doubt the previous team would care .

That’s the problem that is exactly what Josh wants to be sacked to go to Manly so we are just being walked over again. I’d just take the hit on the salary cap for the year. Once he realises he is not getting a release he will play

Exactly, it’s the reason kicking stones works and the greedy Managers are behind it, JA probably didn’t realise what the consequences would be.

Once team mates are off-side and fans are up in arms about the actions of the player, it becomes untenable.

Had JAC said I’ve had enough I don’t want to play for Belly Ache anymore we could have got him for 2020. But he was advised well and got his earn.

The rules need to be changed ASAP to protect clubs and their supporters.

Im pretty certain if we sack him, we save his salary but he walks down the block to the sleagle's for 2021 - he and they are the winners - we get no compensation other than the saved salary so we are walked all over again.
he stays and plays cc or WT get adequate compensation - i.e a player swap

at this stage of the game, who would be worth spending his salary on for 21? We sack him and get his money, then every player out there knows we have more cash to splash and up their ante

When Moses Suli was a Wests Tiger he refused quite a number of times to attend training. His team mates volunteered to drive him from his home to training but when Suli arrived outside the training oval he would decide to not attend but instead sleep in his mate's car until his mate finished training and drove him home. By the way Suli joined Manly whilst still under contract with Wests Tigers. Sounds familiar?

Suli was sacked joined the Bulldogs and sacked by them before going to Manly. Not under contract with the Tigers.

I think it means we whack him with a fine on the way out and have additional cash to splash. Still rather we negotiate a player exchange. We don’t seem to be able to entice players here with money.

I would like to see us fine him 1/12 of his salary for each month he does not turn up. You watch how quickly the matter gets settled one way or the other. Take a stance for a change.

So far all Aloiai has done is publicly embarass himself and his club. One approach might be for the club to do nothing, say nothing, business as usual. With the ball in Aloiai's court the minute he steps out of line sue him for breach of contract.

That could be an option - a large number of organisations have confidentiality and for lack of a better term 'positivity' clauses in their Code fo Conduct for contracts/ conditions of employment.

I don't think this is a path the club would go down, however. It could open the door other problems with future players and their contract conditions not ot mention players not wanting to come here.
If he doesn't come to training fine him but no release is probably the best course. It will put pressure on him to earn or get a favourable release for us.

Don't sack Aloiai, fine him every time he doesn't comply with his contract. Fine fine fine and once you get to about July you can then let him walk.

Let Manly sweat on getting the deal done. We did it with JAC and Storm and didn't budge, see if Manly can do the same.

I hope V'Landys comes down hard on this one. If it just gets swept under the carpet NRL contracts will be meaningless and player managers will do as they please. Pretty much what is happening now!

The current system suits clubs who don’t develop talent, this is a big test to see if PVL is willing to upset Rortsters (sic) and Melbourne and all their $$

NO NO NO
Your first line is completely wrong .

The players are not naive , people should stop apologising or excusing their actions because they are “young “.
