I've heard that Aloiai wasn't happy with how the club treated Matt Eisenhuth (his best mate) this year.

I'm curious to know what treatment he's unhappy about. Eisenhuth did have a career year this year, but in all honesty, he's not a great or solid player. Ran very softly for a guy his stature & was slow. But I give him credit, he balled out this year when he got in the team. Probably cause he was off contract. But the club didn't treat Matt unfairly.

Players have good relationships with other players in the team, but they still have to understand, the clubs are still businesses. Things aren't personal when it comes to the club's success.

If this is anywhere close to the truth, sounds like the players still think they can run the show, i.e. advise management who to sign and re-sign, how training should be conducted, etc. Makes me sick.

It's blame shifting. Get him out of the WTs, bring in his replacement asap.

I'm as shocked about Aloiai wanting more $ as I am about Barnarby on Q and A saying that there should not be a rule against MPs sleeping with an employee.

If it's true he said he will never wear our jersey again, when he is contracted to us, that is a dog act.

I'd enjoy making him wear it. Order him to attend a WT promotional event, as he is under contract and obliged to do so, in our team colours. If he refuses, suspend him without pay, but retaining his contract so he can't go elsewhere.

It's probably not possible, probably not how things work, but it's what he deserves after this rubbish.

It is possible, he would be in breach of his contract and we can stop paying him and prevent him from playing elsewhere

That's the problem with the NRL. Contracts are worth the paper they're written on. They're a joke.

There's a piece missing here. The SMH article said his agent said 'he's improved so much under madge and he likes it' and then suddenly this. Something has gone on behind the scenes cause saying you are 'never going to wear the jersey again' is a pretty big claim.

That is not true. He can not play anywhere else without a release from the Wests Tigers.

Hugely disappointed in how things have unfolded.

I don't know how bringing Matterson into the discussion while choosing to ignore the fact we are undergoing yet another retention blunder helps. I couldn't care less about player reputations once they leave our club but rather more how we can change ours re: our retention/recruitment.

I'm also pretty certain Twal is actually his best mate, so does that mean we'll lose him? Who cares if players wish to follow suit of other former players. The concern should be more focused on our most problematic issues. Prospects won't care about the reasons either however will more likely question our treatment of players.

No retention blunder from listening to Lee H on radio we made offers back and forth and then Josh A has said i am leaving as he has a bigger offer from club x
This is just like Matterson and listening to Lee H we will not be releasing players anymore
Josh you are out of luck

Look I get all that but it's not how it's gonna play out in the media. We all have a loyalty to the club and personal bias but this doesn't help the perception of the club's retention and recruitment one bit. Which is my whole point.

So you would what, have the club pay well more than they were prepared to just for the sake of keeping him for the optics of how it would play out in the media? That would just replace a perceived poor recruitment and retention strategy with an actual poor recruitment and retention policy...

No.
I think I've been pretty clear in stating I only care about our retention and recruitment reputation and image, and building the team to a stronger position. IDC about media perception but more what prospective targets think.

**I'm sick of seeing the club get shafted. Stand firm on Aloiai and the jelly-spine tossers will give us a wide berth in future. Win-win.**

Melbourne hung onto JAC because it didn't work for them for whatever reason to let him go. They had a contract and they enforced it. Granted they have the on field success to make it more palatable for JAC but there's no reason why on-field success should factor into a legally binding contract being enforced, it goes back to my previous comment that if you don't want to find yourself in this situation, then chance the risk and play year on year. They won't do that though because you're only ever one tackle away from a career ending injury. They expect security and flexibility. In Rugby League they are mutually exclusive if you're signing long term (3+ year,) contracts.

Thankyou as this was what I was kinda getting at.
Also hate that player managers and players take advantage of the club's position but at the same time was more suggesting that the club look at it's retention/recruitment policy.
This is not specifically a dig at our adminstration which I feel some forumer's have been misinterpreting, but that we examine this department more closely - as it's at the centre of our biggest issues.
I wasn't trying to provoke anyone either but rather looking at it from different perspective/angle. I believe the club has faced worse than this and the Matterson saga.
I just don't wait to see the club be brought to its hands and knees again or feeling any long-term residual effects. So the basis of my original comment was, how can we work toward getting better results in our biggest problem area(retention and recruitment).

Well this all escalated quickly.... 30+ pages since I read last night.... What's happened?

Josh asked for a release to join Manly as they have apparently offered him a 3 year deal starting next year.

@Telltails said in [Aloiai](/post/1265946) said:
An offer to good to refuse - dependant on signing next year - that's what is going on.

This is exactly it, this is probably why Josh is so frustrated, a really good offer if he gets out of next years contract, if not Manly will have more choices for 22, as 21 is a huge year across the park for players coming off contracts.

An nrl contract is only as strong as the club behind it and how they plan to enforce it if you just roll over and release the player than yeah they may aswell have signed on a piece of toilet paper

Well the dragons refused to release Saab , the storm refused to release JAC , so we should do the same , and yes the slimey eels refused to release Stefano to us . Grow a pair tigers and stand up right for a change .
