but here we are with a future leader of the club being low balled and given a deadline....Seems odd.

Strap in boys, gunna be a tough (er) couple of seasons.

If the offer of $450k a year is on the mark he wasn't low-balled.
The money is about right for his quality. The deadline only followed prolonged discussions and in those circumstances is quite reasonable. I'm 100% with the club on this.

Where does that $450k figure come from please?

It seems like good dollars for a frontrower that doesn't work too hard around the ruck in defence.

Chammas at SMH, also said he was asking for 600, and Manly forums are stating he has signed for just north of 500 for 22 and 23. No reliable information that it was dependant on a 21 release but I reckon its true if Lee’s that pissed about it.

This is what the DT has quoted Lee H as saying on the contingent stuff :

"I was informed that the ‘22 and ‘23 deal may be contingent on a release for 2021."

Who informed him? And now he says it "may be contingent". If he is going to go to the media he should make sure all his ducks are in a row first - he seems to be backtracking on his hard stance earlier.

Pretty sure its Aloiai’s text message to club officials saying “I wont represent the tigers or put on a jersey”, that had Lee firing up, Then the Manly boss comes out and says we are negotiating for 22 but haven’t spoken about 21. Which I’m still suspect about ?‍♂️ Either way its been pretty strong D from us all around IMO, I dont see that as backtracking tbh.

Thats not all of it though - he seems to be trying to cover all bases. Don't get me wrong i'm all for coming out all guns blazing. I just see statements such as '" anecdotally we have been told" and " I was informed " and " may be contingent " as knowing only half the story. The guy runs a law firm - if you have all the facts you dont come out with wishy washy statements like these.

No no that's exactly what you do as a lawyer.

You don't make a public statement "this is true" - you are then make statements that are directly accusatory or slanderous. You say things like "I am lead to believe" and "anecdotally I've been told".

You are putting forward information without asserting it as fact. Same as the use of "allegedly" which means "I don't know it to be true, but it is claimed". The fact is that the claim exists, not that the claim is true.

Lee cannot come out and say "Manly have offered him a deal which must include 2021, hence the release agitation". That's an accusation against Manly of breaking NRL rules of conduct. Instead he's saying he believes the deal may be contingent. And if they challenge him, he says "well it appears I was misinformed, I am not making any allegations".

?

He might be average, but there's something seriously wrong at this club, too many players have wanted out, to many quality players are saying no to our big offers...my mail it's Maguire, he's not seen as a coach players want to play for, and that's from a current first grade mate of mine, but the love for Maguire will continue on this forum, this club has been on a downhill spiral, for years....has accelerated under Maguire

You don't believe the motivation for Aloiai's behaviour is $ and a player manager wanting commissions on two (Aloiai, AFB) players' new contracts and possibly a third player's contract commission back to WTs?

So J Rey doesn't want to play for Madge ..he can leave ..and I thank him for his contribution..

The problem is not the coach even if it is Maguire..it's the self entitled attitude of some of these blokes who think they are bigger than the Club..

They are happy to take the cash tho..

Exactly. Happy to collect their pay cheque for rubbish results.
The mates of the players can all line up as far as I'm concerned - I'm over their excuses.

If anything too many players have said "YES" to our big offers and stank it up while they are with us.This is something Madge is trying to fix, getting the right players at the right price.
We dont need more Packers Reynolds or M'Byes gettting money under false pretences

For once I want to see WT Board show some balls and say to Manly you can have Josh but we want a suitable replacement just like Storm did with JAC.

I don't follow Manly so don't have a name but I am sure they have some players that could add value to our side. A ball playing lock would be nice or a hard running Second Rower.

Maybe "quality players" don't want to come because the players - including your mate - are not the players they want to play with.

Thats a great point.

What serious professional would want to play with players who cant do the simple things like loyalty, team first and buy in.

Agree, shift the problem back to where it started for the solution. If (and I’m not making any accusations here, just alleging) the club wants to make a deal with the player manager then that club should wear it or push back to the player manager. Good on WT and Lee for saying, stop the music we’re not playing this game.

Chammas reporting Tigers offered him an upgrade to $450k a season. He rejected it wanting over $600k. After a month of negotiations they gave him a one day deadline after hearing he’d gone to manly and he chucked a fit

It’s the right decision from the club in the end. Madge and co are certainly making sure they don’t overpay for ANYONE, same thing happened with JAC. It will cost us some players but it’s needed as we’ve been in salary cap strife for too long

If true this shows how hard it is for the club to manage the cap. I reckon 500k is a really good salary for a middle forward. It's a top middle forward in the comp. Manly offering 600k is nuts. I understand they do it because they figure they have to pay overs to get a guy out of a club.

The problem is we need to retain these guys on what we've apparently offered.

It sounds like we've been trying to manage the situation but it's solely a $$$ game.

Some will say that no one will come here because we don't pay overs to players who aren't worth it. So let the other clubs do it, when eventually they get in to salary cap strife, we could be the last club standing.

What we are now doing (putting a value on a players worth) is new for the club and some players will be disillusioned, but I believe it will eventually benefit the club.

Its already shown that most players will run for the money everytime. I don't blame them, but it should be done the right way.
