If it doesn’t then we (the fans) have every right to be furious. I take Cochise’s point, that long term we need to pressure the NRL to tighten the rules to prevent further occurrences. But, in the short term we have to get something out of Manly.
I’m also at a loss as to why the media aren’t talking about the fact he’s been induced to try to break his contract, just like it wasn’t mentioned with the previous players that have pulled this rubbish. There are currently rules around inducement to break contract, yet it barely rates a mention.

I keep going back to Jai Arrow last year South's were desperate to get him and the Titans wouldn't budge. I support the club on most things but I don't see any benefit to us in Manly getting him now. Beyond disappointed in this decision. If you are going to talk the talk

I agree 200% but think of it this way, it gives an opportunity to the likes of Steff>>Kei, etc which I for one cant wait to see these kids in action. If it was me I wouldn't let him go until he formally apologized in front of the playing group

I was all for getting rid of Matterson when he spat it last year but can't cop his mate doing the same now. What ever damage it may of caused by forcing him to fulfill his contract I still believe would have be worth it in regard to the message sent to the rest of his mates in the playing group - and their parasite managers.

And if we miss the 8 because of another $350k in reserve grade?

Your assuming he would play reserve grade Im not.

That is what the majority want.

And two weeks ago the "majority" wanted JA as future captain. Things have a habit of changing quickly when referring to the majority.

I want him as far away from the rest of the squad as possible, don't need him in the other players ears each day. I don't want someone playing 1st grade for us who had no desire to be here.

And I didn't want Matterson anywhere near our club last year either - fast forward 12months later.

Keeping him here want stop future players pulling the same stunt, changing the rules will. Matterson was garbage this year, we made the right choice.

I wouldnt say Matterson was"garbage" but there is no doubt he didnt play as well as he did with us.WT certainly made the right choice in letting him go

Compared to last year he was garbage. I might be a little more critical due to his actions towards our club.

Hence my saying Aloiai shouldn’t be allowed to play us, at least this season when he would’ve been contracted, in case we have to face the very real possibility that Josh is a much better player than Matterson and may have a more legitimate, actual reason to be angry at us. Most ardent supporters disagree with you Cochise!

Mate - in more than 100 percent agreement. Issue is we seem to be arriving at the same conclusion through different means. He will try very hard to destroy us first if possible and releasing him without a fight gives opportunity.

I agree, Matterson and now Aloai created an opening, and I can see that unscrupulous managers will exploit it even more! I think that the club could react more forcefully.

We will reap what we sow.

We should be in the media at every opportunity saying the rules are wrong, when we release him we should make it clear this is not what we want to do but have no choice under the current rules. Then get our chairman on every sports program talking about how the rules disillusion fans and need to be changed. Our chair should also be demanding a sit down with PVL and make it clear this needs to change.

I'm not here to go with the crowd though, I want him to play us and I want us to destroy him.

Mate - in more than 100 percent agreement. Issue is we seem to be arriving at the same conclusion through different means. He will try very hard to destroy us first if possible and releasing him without a fight gives opportunity.

Do youth think he will be less enthusiastic if we left him here in reserves missing out on his payday for a year?

I am sick of the whole thing.

Sick of Wests Tigers constantly being stepped on and walked over.

Sick of our so called leaders talking tough and achieving nothing.

Sick of people constantly defending the club and saying that we are doing the right thing letting Josh walk without there being any evidence of Manly giving us something in the line of compensation, and I don’t cop the crap in the media that us getting J.O. from Brisbane is our compensation because that is not costing Manly anything.

You are right in saying that the NRL need to fix this, but despite Peter V’landys being the most proactive NRL Chairman that we have ever seen, or ever likely to see, I don’t see him coming out and stating that it is some sort of priority for them to fix.

I don’t doubt that at some stage it will be on the agenda but I feel that if Wests Tigers took a stand we may just force the issue, particularly at a time when we appear to be actually having things turn for us on this issue and have the sympathy and support of some sections of the media.

I believe we are seen as a bit of a battling club, and at times when things are going well we have closet supporters that seem to come out of the wood work. I see this as one of those times that we could capitalize on the situation and take a stand and win over a lot of support, not only NRL supporters, but the media as well.

It’s not that we are likely to be a chance to win the comp next year and we have been able to get by for the last 2 seasons with what I believe was a very harsh 350K cap hit and a fine, what’s one more season copping Josh’s 350k contract, when 2022 is the season that we have the opportunity to really turn things around.

We still need players to make up the numbers for NSW cup and you never know, Josh might just have enough pride and courage to stand up and have a stand out year for us in the NRL in 2021.

So what if we take a bit of a hit next year, if we take a stand and really push the point and show we are not push overs, I am sure we would win the respect of the majority of NRL supporters and possibly even force the hand of Peter V’landys to say enough is enough, we have to fix this, and I think we have seen enough of him now to know that once he gets his teeth into something then things start to happen.

As some others have said, if we do get something of significant value from Manly and it is not put out in the public for all to see, then it is a pretty bad look for us and our tough talking leaders.

This was the time to take a stand and it looks like we have let that opportunity go.

RANT OVER!

I understand what you are saying but I want us to have the best chance of making the 8 next year and our best chance is replacing Aloiai.

We need to announce Joe ASAP. Then only release Josh after we get what we want from Manly. who gives a stuff if he has to come to training with the rest of the squad. It will be perfect medicine for him to be punished by his teammates and coaches. Receive a few big hits in training. He might show more humility as a consequence. He's in the wrong, if he wants out he needs to push his agent to make it happen. Until then, he trains and gets a lesson in professionalism

It’s all about perception. As a club we look weak as we have rolled over once again, but in actual fact we probably have put together a very good deal in our advantage. The trouble we the punters only see that another player has been able to break his contract once again. Of course the funny thing is, we are good at granting releases but terrible at getting releases.

Anyway I am sure the club has brokered a deal, but they have to come out and let the world know that the release came at a big cost for either Manly or the player in question. Of course they don’t have to go into all the details, but like when Cleary was released we were given a rough idea what the settlement was.

We have the leverage here. Manly are desperate for forwards. If they want him, it’s got to cost them something. Otherwise he stays in Ron Massey Cup.

Won’t happen we are snowflakes

If it doesn’t then we (the fans) have every right to be furious. I take Cochise’s point, that long term we need to pressure the NRL to tighten the rules to prevent further occurrences. But, in the short term we have to get something out of Manly.
I’m also at a loss as to why the media aren’t talking about the fact he’s been induced to try to break his contract, just like it wasn’t mentioned with the previous players that have pulled this rubbish. There are currently rules around inducement to break contract, yet it barely rates a mention.

I agree, Matterson and now Aloai created an opening, and I can see that unscrupulous managers will exploit it even more! I think that the club could react more forcefully.

We will reap what we sow.

Matteson and Aloai were close mates at WT. both broke their contracts early. Matterson would have provided much advice to Aloai on how to find holes in the Wests Tigers admin system and manouvre an early release. Matterson and aloia learnt whilst Wt admin look like dummies.

I'd announce JO....then not release JA for a week or so just to let him and manly sweat

I don’t think they will release until they find a replacement, but shouldn’t be to long.

Both came through the Parramatta system so you would not expect any less.

I wonder if once Aloiai gets released, if Matterson will have learned his lesson after Fittler told him to keep his mouth shut when he ran the club down over Thompson. You don’t wish injury on players, but Jesus Christ it was satisfying watching Packer put him on the ground, then get stuck in afterwards. Any Tigers fan who says otherwise is a liar.
