Braith Anasta says he's still owed money by Wests Tigers

Retired Wests Tigers star Braith Anasta has savaged his former club, claiming it owes him money and that the embattled joint venture released Adam Blair because of salary cap pressure.
>
Anasta, who brought his 14-season career to a close this year, also revealed other Tigers players he knew were out of pocket. "My contract, that I agreed to with the Tigers, has not fully been honoured," the 32-year-old told Sky News' Sportsnight. "And that has left a bitter taste in my mouth … The Tigers have let go of Adam Blair, they've let go of Bodene Thompson, Blake Austin – three of their best players this year. There's no coincidence in my mind they're struggling with money. They're trying to release pressure from the salary cap. I know for a fact they haven't paid a few players that have been on the roster the last couple of seasons – and I've been one of them."
>
Anasta was unavailable for comment on Wednesday night, but Fairfax Media understands the dispute relates to two outstanding third-party arrangements that were not honoured over the two years of his tumultuous stint.
>
He signed for the 2013 and 2014 seasons after his former club, the Roosters, had only offered him a one-year deal. That deal was struck with former Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys, who has since been sacked, and long-time recruitment manager Warren McDonnell.
>
Now, Anasta is left chasing money while in retirement.Tigers chief executive Grant Mayer was stunned by the claims when contacted on Wednesday — but hopes to meet Anasta next week to discuss the issue. "As this agreement was reached between the former Wests Tigers CEO and Braith Anasta's former manager [Greg Willett], the revelation was a surprise," Mayer said. "However, Braith and myself have agreed to meet next week to discuss the issue."
>
Blair, who joined the Tigers from the Storm on about $550,000 a season, was this week released from the final year of his contract to join Wayne Bennett at the Broncos next year.
While it is unclear which players Anasta was referring to when he mentioned unpaid contracts, there were suggestions that former five-eighth Benji Marshall is one of them. Marshall stormed out to join New Zealand rugby powerhouse Auckland Blues last year after a deal negotiated with Humphreys also fell through.
>
"Braith mentioned other players who have not been paid," Mayer said. "I am assuming he is talking about players who have left the club." Anasta's claims are an unwanted distraction for the Tigers as they try to rebuild after a disastrous 2014 season that ended in coach Mick Potter being sacked. The NRL parachuted in three independent directors, with chief executive Dave Smith promising to bring stability to the club. "Everyone agrees that the Wests Tigers are poised for one of the most exciting eras in their history," Smith said at the time.
>
New coach Jason Taylor is also clearing parts of the roster to shape it his way, but Anasta believes he now goes into next season lacking depth. "I look at their squad and I thought their squad as it was would be close to a top four this year," he said. "But they've lost a lot of depth with Blair, Thompson and Austin. They were a security blanket for them. If there are any injuries that were there last year, there will be trouble."

So it was previous Management that arranged these TPA's that haven't been honoured….Mayer also seemed surprised Anasta referred to current players....Who to believe???...Hmmmm

LOL so braith went to the media before mayer?

or mayer is telling fibs that he didnt know about this…

if it's on paper, then it's very surprising that mayer didnt know... if it's not on paper- we dont owe him jack

Mayer and Sargeant Schultz even look alike

I know nothing

Braith obviously has nothing on paper otherwise he would just send it off to the lawyers to get sorted.
Not going to the media with this rubbish.

If he had paid Anasta what was promised there would be no need to go public.

As the club with which he ended his career, I don't think its in Anasta's interests to make us look shabby.
My money's unfortunately on us well and truly being that shabby.
Things weren't great pre mid 2014, but jeez I never thought they'd get as bad as they have since….

100% is there is a contract issue u get lawyers involved and sort it out… The fact MAyer is declaring ignorance suggests Braith has nothing in writing... Isn't that his and his managers fault???...M Braith should be grateful a club gave him an extra 2 years when he was destined for the tip... And what did he give us ... Roosterman was 100% right about this glamour puss

Surely Mayer would know the ins and outs of everyone's contract ?
Does the club use a certified accountant or do they use the bloke on the corner who lives above the pub ??
It seems like it's gonna get messier IMO .

If hes owed coin which Im sure he is….its a poor look pointing the finger at him.
The shambles of a club is who should be copping it...but yeh its always someone elses fault

TPA are agreements between player and sponsor… The club is merely an intermediary...the player has obligations under all TPA's did anyone stop to think maybe the player defaulted on their obligations in the deal???

Yeah Im sure thats the first thing any player would do if they hadnt honoured their part of any tpa….go running to the media to make themselves look silly in the end.

Pretty serious claims from him that wouldnt have been made lightly im sure

One might think hes not entirely being factual if hes only talking about his own deal, but when he brings up others too...well alarm bells start to ring for me. Looks to me like we do deals like this

And we wonder why we arent signing anyone???
Maybe theyre all steering well clear

If he didn't know what was going on with Braith's deal it probably proves a point that he isn't doing his job very well

When you are the boss of a business you know everything that is going on inside it , and if you don't know something you have someone who does

The bloke is running a multi million dollar business for Christ sake in the biggest rugby league comp in the world

He will know what is going on for sure , and if he doesn't he should be sacked

I gotta get new glasses !!!! I swear I just read Einfield saying "Mayer shady as well" ).I know there's some problems with the text lately but not to that extent surely.

There's obviously a lot we're never going to know about this. What does appear to be true, however, is that Anasta decided to tell his story to the media before meeting the CEO about it. His first loyalty has always been to his media career, and unfortunately I suspect he is going to be a go-to guy for the media whenever they need an 'insider' to give a negative Tigers angle - and for a long, long time to come. Sort of a better looking George Piggins: the convenient rentaquote hacks can call up every time they've got some sh- they need stirring.

Anasta has been nothing but a cancer for Wests Tigers. Never hated a Tiger before, but there's a first for everything and in this case, Anasta is it.

Had to laugh at the article reffering to him as "Wests Tigers star Braith Anasta".
