Anasta said Tigers should stick with Miller
By Ben Chenoweth
The decision to dump Wests Tigers halfback Jacob Miller after four rounds may not sit well with his replacement.
Speaking to the Advertiser before round one, Braith Anasta said whoever was handed the 7 jersey deserved time to establish themselves as Benji Marshall’s halves partner.
‘‘You can’t be putting young blokes in and out of the team especially at halfback,’’ he said.
‘‘Whoever they do pick they have to stick solid with them and show them that they have the belief they can be the Tigers number seven all year.
‘‘Jacob Miller won the Toyota Cup with the 20s and has played a few first grade games so if they give him the opportunity they just have to stick with him.
‘‘Give him that belief that he is there for that number seven jersey and that will give him confidence.’’
Since the departure of Scott Prince at the end of 2006, the Tigers have struggled to find a long term replacement.
Anasta made it clear he wasn’t the answer to the halves dilemma and his preferred position was in the back row.
‘‘I’m at the stage of my career where I want to play lock, it’s my preferred position,’’ the 31-year-old said.
‘‘We’ve got players like Marshall and Farah who can take care of the halves and the creativity and I just want to be able to do my job, come in and out of the game if they need me.’’
Former Gold Coast Titan Bodene Thompson will make his debut for the Tigers in place of Anasta in the back row.
