Any Team will beat us with the right game plan

Its a broken record you guys are playing. We can't afford to buy any players. We are working with the ones we have got. They are a work in progress. An underdone Nofo has played 3 NRL games at centre. Our halves have work to do defensively, but we have clearly improved in defence. Last week we comprehensively beat the premiers with the same players and game plan. Taylor is not a bad coach. He is working under some constraints with very inexperienced players.

And it's a broken record to says"we beat the Premiers" . yes , technicaly correct, but if you think that the team we beat was the same team , or even close to the team that won last years comp, then you are kidding yourself. Missing were Teo, Inglis, and the main reason that they did win it, Sam Burgess . As well they had Nathan Brown And Grey playing.
So there's Five large differences
If Souths perform as as they did against us they won't win a game if they make the Semis.
They were as bad as we have been. Just how good we are was shown by the team coming Stone Cold Last on Fri night.
The Title of this thread is spot on.
If We have to catch other teams on a downer to win games then we haven't improved at all. We were lucky to get away with the score we had against Manly, and whenever they put any pressure on , they scored , or came close,
As I said after the Souths game, enjoy it while we can.
We've all seen it time and time again

I think you are almost right.

Against Souths we executed a good game plan well. Souths made a few bad errors and we punished them for it. If we had also played poorly, we would instead have let Souths off the hook and probably contributed to a very ordinary football match.

Manly executed a good plan well, and this time we made the mistakes.

I think the competition is honestly so close, that any team 1-16 can punish you for an off match. We have too many off matches.

I agree with this. If we start playing well we can win some games.

The big problem with Taylor ball is that it lost us some games. You can't coach a team to play low quality footy and expect to win games. You might jag a win or two in the right situation but its not going to work longer term.

Agreed!

Any team can be beaten with the right attitude/intensity/energy. Look what we did v Souths.

Spot on Raven. Wish the boys brought all that in to every game, instead of once in a while… :frowning:

Its ridiculous really, how is it possible that any 1st grade nrl team can have such an obvious weakness and not do anything about it? Even a novice can see all you need to do is attack our right side. Its so frustrating, its just like watching the local juniors at the park make the same mistakes. How it is possible just doesnt make sense at all.

It's a big problem when you have a defensive liability on both sides of the field.
I can't remember seeing another first grade team having the same sort of problem , especially such an obvious problem, with such young players.
There's been numerous problems that have cost us this year,( not just the halves) but the underlying worry is that their defence is not showing a lot of improvement, and their form overall is patchy at best.
What concerns me most is that if we get to the end of this season and nothing's improved in the halves, do we continue with the same players?
How far do we go before a judgement is to be made on whether they are first grade standard or not?
So far there have been glimpses of hope( Brooks a couple of games last season, andlast week, and Moses against the Dogs earlier this season and this week), but these kids aren't two or three game Rookies,
They've been given a lot more leeway than any young pairing that I can remember, for very little return.
I would think that we all want to see them succeed , but somewhere along the road, if they don't turn out to be what they were built up to be, someone will have to look at alternatives.
I still think that Brooks has the better chance of making it , but who really knows.
But unless there are some damn good indicators that there's some improvement in their ability in steering a football team around( by the end of this season) then we need to be looking at bringing in at least one experienced half or 5/8 for next year

Has it not been made very clear that we will not be buying any new players next year - or did I just imagine that ?

I didn't say Buy someone,
