Any young centres coming through our ranks?

I really liked Joel Jackson but he last year had one of the most horrific injuries i have ever seen.

Tim Simona would make a big impact in first grade in attack, not a great defender at this stage, but neither are the current first grade centres and they can`t attack too well either.
I agree regarding Sironen in the centres, it`s obviously not his best position, but he looks good enough and smart enough to go well in any position. He`d already have Blake Ayshford covered that`s for sure.

You guys are nuts!

Lawrence and Ayshford are two of the best YOUNG centers in the game and are both on long term deals.

Vicious do you really think that Sironen is a better player than Ayshford after half a dozen under 20's games????

Madness!

Have to disagree hybrid. I thought his defense against the dragons was very good and he continually busts tackles in attack.

I wouldn't be swapping him…

His defense against the Dragons was very poor IMO. He had plenty of mates (Lui and Moltzen in particular) so I'm not singling him out, but to say he is one of the best young centres in the game is a bit ridiculous IMO. There would be alot of players ahead of him on that list.

He is an average player who does most things well, but he doesn't particularly excel at any one aspect of his game. Probably his strength hitting the line is decent, but he is not fast, he is not a great passer, or a great hole runner and his defense is average.

I said the same things early last year and he then finished the year well and was one of our best players at the back end of last season, so fingers crossed he does the same again but his form this year has been pretty poor IMO.

ever since the Broncos game he has been down in form but I think that is more due to the fact many teams are really able to concentrate they're defence on him . he is a much better player when Lawrence is playing as it seems to take the presure off him in attack as teams are more focussed on Lawrence . But if you asked me to compare Lawrence and Ayshford Lawrence is winning that battle comfortably but Ayshford is still learning

I agree Happy that Lawrence wins hands down. I also agree that Blake needs to improve his support play and passing game - his winger does not get many opportunities.

However I thought that he defended much better than Lui, and Moltzen for that matter. Did he miss Gaz, I can't remember as I missed that try and only saw the highlights.

He only has 50 games under his belt but I am happy with his progress and his ability to break tackles. The rest can come later (but hopefully not too much later).

He is certainly a cut above Dean Collis in my book.

Tim Simona is a wonderful talent but will most likely end up on the wing IMO.

Clarke and Wisbey are both progressing.

Lawrence was one out of the box and it is rare to have a young centre with his size, power and poise so I would think all of the NYC boys are a few years off yet

Smeg ive watched Simona a bit now and he powers on to the ball but in the 3 or 4 games ive seen he seems like a greedy guts, what do you reckon?

Most NYC players have that issue so I am not too concerned.

Finau was the same but his debut game in State Cup this was gone and he played for the team

Hope Eshman makes it back, really tough ask after being out of the game for a few years. Dont expect anything this year but could be a chance in 2012\. Sheens rates him big time

But I recall Eshman being a backrower/lock anyway. Why is he an option at centre all of a sudden? He's been in the military. Wouldn't that make him harder and bigger now? Thus even more of a reason for him to be a backrower?

Nothing against Lawrence and Ayshford (both are great centres with Chris in my opinion being in the top 5 centres in the NRL)

I was talking about covering for injuries. Now for instance I would be a lot happier with young Sironen in the centres than Moltzen ( I would also give Dwyer a run in the centres in front of Moltzen).

Ayshford will turn into a better than average centre in time. I still look forward to seeing him with a fast winger outside him (maybe the young fijian from the 20's). Ayshford in my opinion has been reluctant to pass because of the players that have been playing outside him.

Eshman was a very slight centre MacDougall

A skinny version of King who played for melbourne with the afro hair do. Had one first grade game I think at LO, might have been against the storm and we got hammered but not sure on that one. Didnt set the world on fire but was only a kid

He was a centre for BRET back in the day. Has been playing 5/8th recently and doing well…Think he debuted for WT in Melbourne against the Storm in 2006-7(?)..
