Arana Taumata to debut

Any one think Lazo might get the no 1 with Beau taking Fitzys wing spot and Arana to 7??

Or leave Lazzo for another start at seven, leave Beau at 1 and start Taumata in Fitz's spot, just to ease him into FG. By all accounts he has speed + D. Does anyone know how Fitzy pulled up after the game? Saw him lying on the ground injured at one stage.

Arana, in my eyes, doesn't deserve a start this week against the Panthers…...he must stay with BRET, put in , and show the club , that he really has changed his ways.

Beau Ryan is by far the best fullback the Tigers have…he should stay there for the rest of the year...he is also a far better fullback than winger IMO.

Severe cramp in both calves setting in.

It goes to show the difference in pace at NRL level and with the amount of defence and therefor backwards running done it would have been a very hard night on the legs full stop

And this is exactly why Sheens will pick both Arana and Blake… give them even time (of course depending on how well they go...).

Also, I know he is a running 5/8, but he was brought to play halfback.... he must be in Sheens plans this season given he is only a one year contract....

He'll wear the 14 jersey...

I think with Laz, Arana and Benj theres alot of flashy ball running halves in the side - it has the potential to work, but not without the risk of too many chefs ruining the broth. And as always - small quickish backs and uitilities will come at the expense of size and impact on the bench. We can assume as much.

Why fart around with him on the bench?
We shouldve learned our lesson last Fri ie p/weak piddly light benches.
He's had F/G exp…chuck him in, surely he wont go worse than Lazzo
Plus Bryce needs a minder nowdays..."These guns are lethal weapons"

I`ve got to agree with Ink here. I think Tim Moltzen`s record when playing halfback is proof in the pudding that Benji and Farah perform best with a good ball running halfback along side of them. Taumata is not your traditional organising halfback, but as long as he can throw long crisp passes to Benji when he`s standing wide of the ruck, he can atleast match the running game that Tim Moltzen posesses. Not sure about Arana`s kicking game, but Benji and Robbie normally like to take control of that area as well.

Great post. Moltzen is not the organising type of halfback, so maybe that does suit our team with its particular mix of Robbie controlling the game from the ruck and Benji working best out wide. I dunno, as much as I can try to work out why, we haven't lost a match with Moltzen at half and there has to be a reason for that. Maybe the half most like Moltzen is best. (PS - didn't Mitch Brown kick for Cronulla?)

u fair dinkum?

he training attitude, attitude outside the club and what he does in time off shows if he has changed his ways.. and from all reports he is going strong and his attitude to training is unbeleiveable.. in other words "PUTTING IN", he is doing that… Game time does not show if u are on the straight and narrow..

LAZO i think should be on Bench at best even though another year in lower grade will do him the world of good... not a starter.. he isnt a talker which is what we need and no 1st grade experience untill last Friday night..

Arana and Benji, salivating at the thought

Makes perfect sense to me.
Ryan has been great at FB and solved a real selection issue with some very strong performances for the side. Good time to put him back on the wing, good time to get a refill on your Olanzapine as well.

would love to see taumata included into the side this week whether he starts at 7 or comes off the bench
the thought of taumata on one side of the ruck and benji on the other excites me
imagine them to at their best then uve got lote on the wing with farah running the hooker position
ryan shouldnt move from where he is, hes doing a terrfific job

Sorry …. this is the big time. Lazarus isn't up to first grade yet and needs more time in the lower grades to mature. This notion of playing him again just because it is mean to drop him after one match just doesn't wash.

I would feel a lot more comfortable blooding this kid Taumata as it sounds like he will slot in better with Marhshall and Farah and hopefully wont have to be hidden up in defense. I agree the sooner Lui comes back the better but we need to find an alternate solution real quick in the mean time.

We can't have too many reserve graders in the team at once all trying to make their mark. If we do it will be like landing on a snake in a game of snakes and ladders ....... we'll be down with Cronulla in no time.

i think if Sheens makes a deicision he needs to either put on there for the game.. not half a game and then bring the other on..

Number 7 is a full game player.. not a half or 2/3rds player

What happens if neither Lazarus or Taumata is fit enough to play 80 mins?

From what I've seen in state cup Lazarus was fitter than Taumata and he lasted 65 minutes in FG after defending on the wing. I can't imagine how Taumata will last longer than 65 defending at halfback and coming off an injury.

I think Arana is perfectly suited to our team structure providing he has a good left to right passing game. As we all know we don't play a traditional halfback/five eight type of structure so in essence we need Arana to be able to service Benji with nice crisp passes from first receiver and then be able to run a play down the right side when it is on.

Just like Moltzen did I think this then gives another dimension to our attack and whilst not being a dominant halfback as in other teams he would add another potent option out wide apart from Benji.

I have nothing for or against Taumata yet but Lazarus's first game was no worse and no better than Lui's first game in first grade.

2 years….2011...

I don't think he was bought to play halfback either....circumstance has resulted in that though.....
