Arana Taumata to debut

There's no doubting nor quesationing the ability and talent of Taumata. Just ask his former coaches in Folkes and in more recent times, Bellamey. Bellamey was shattered when the club was forced to terminate his contract, knowing the impact he would have provided Melbourne.

Taumata has always been 'potential waiting to happen'. I believe this potential will be realised and fulfilled at Wests Tigers. The kid has played NRL, dominated in the halves and will handle the job 'if' Sheens chooses to call upon him to wear the No.7.

From what i've seen of him in Reserve Grade, he's shown glimpses of brillance, showed the player we all know he can be. Put him in an environment around classier players and watch the bloke shine. I'd go as far as to say Taumata and Marshall could be the most exciting, potent and devastating halves combo Wests have ever had.

I'll be one supporter, waiting, hoping and anticipating his name to be read out on Tuesday afternoon.

I must say, I'd prefer Taumata over Lui.

I would feel very sorry for Lazarus if he gets dumped after one game. It would I dare say be bacause of what someone here has already mentioned and that is the size of the Panthers and that Taumata can defend from the halves.

Like i said last week… both should be in the side and they should share the duties throughout the game... Similar to when we had flanagan and degois cover farah.

I am also not a fan of dropping a rookie after a poor team performance on the back of bad handling and a beaten pack of forwards.

Exactly!! Bit harsh.

But wasn't there some interview with Sheens after the game where he said or implied that Lazarus will be playing next week?? I think the interview was posted here with a link??

The Tigers are also set to welcome back forwards Keith Galloway and Todd Payten.

I am more excited by this news. Though Toddy was out for 6+ weeks? Anyway, welcome both Keith & him back with open arms!

These 2 blokes are a necessity for next weeks game after watching the Panthers play first half of the game with the Warriors.

It might be harsh dropping a player after one game but this is firstgrade, and with Lui and Taumata coming back he had to play a bit better than that.

Lazarus not ready yet, Bellamy was going to start Taumata at 6 for the Storm and push Inglis back into the centres thats enough for me to give the green light to Taumata.

Very interesting Tiger, and enough for me too

Only on a one year deal I think

He needs some more NRL experience before we make a decision on his future at our club.

Because inevitably out of Moltzen, Lazarus, Lui and Taumata we will have to get rid of at least 2 of them if not 3\. So if we experiment with Taumata, Lui and Lazarus while Moltzen is out, I'm sure we'll get a better picture of who we want, and who we don't want.

Good luck AJ

Lazaurus went off near the end of the game didn't he?
looked like he was wincing and then stretched up a bit from what they showed on tv.
maybe he might have an injury and that's why he might get dropped if he does.

From memory he has a great short kicking game but not much of a long game.

In the games I've seen from Arana, his kicking game long and short is ordinary. It's not terrible, but not good either. Lazarus has the far superior kicking game IMO.

Why fart around with him on the bench?
We shouldve learned our lesson last Fri ie p/weak piddly light benches.
He's had F/G exp…chuck him in, surely he wont go worse than Lazzo
Plus Bryce needs a minder nowdays..."These guns are lethal weapons"

I`ve got to agree with Ink here. I think Tim Moltzen`s record when playing halfback is proof in the pudding that Benji and Farah perform best with a good ball running halfback along side of them. Taumata is not your traditional organising halfback, but as long as he can throw long crisp passes to Benji when he`s standing wide of the ruck, he can atleast match the running game that Tim Moltzen posesses. Not sure about Arana`s kicking game, but Benji and Robbie normally like to take control of that area as well.

Severe cramp in both calves setting in.

It goes to show the difference in pace at NRL level and with the amount of defence and therefor backwards running done it would have been a very hard night on the legs full stop

Warney went 0 for 100+ in his first match.

You gotta show some patience if you want to get the best out of someone, I personally think once Lazarus was named he should have been a near certainly for the next one. Just hope this doesn't do some real damage to the kids confidence it really wasn't a game anyone should have been judged too harshly on.

Any one think Lazo might get the no 1 with Beau taking Fitzys wing spot and Arana to 7??

I'm thinking the same thing i thought his first half defense was good i think beau needs to go back on the wing to strengthen our right side defense
