Arana Taumata

I think that the coaching staff believe that he may be too similar to Lui in the NYC. If this is the case then they will probably hold back.

Is this based on opinion or fact?

IMO he is not needed.

Lui is untried and untested in first grade and I'd rather be giving him a shot rather than a risky off-field import.

We have enough depth in the halves with Benji, Lui, Lewis, Moltzen & Ayshford & to a lesser extent Hanbury, that if injury does strike (touch wood) a bit of deck shuffling will still leave a strong line-up. Eg if Moltzen needs to be moved to the halves we've got Gallant to cover fullback, and with the other 4 backs we've got Tuiaki, Ayshford, Hanbury, Lawrence, Tupou, Daniella etc to cover Ayshford for example.

I'd rather give Lui a shot first and spend the money on a DECENT prop, not one from Penrith's reserve grade.

Josh Massoud reports in today's Telegraph that Taumata is a done deal with the Tigers as we beat Melbourne to sign him. There is no electronic link to this one as yet sorry.

Yeah read that as well…..it is Massoud but even he gets 1 in a 100 right....lets just hope if it's accurate that he keeps his nose clean given the hefty fines the NRL is putting in place for clubs that sign repeat offenders re their off field behaviour...

Sheens has got a job ahead of him....

Im all for this signing our back line for 2010 is starting to look super quick & pretty strong
1.Gallant/Moltzon/Lazarus
2.Tuiaki
3.Moltzon/Daniela/Ayshford
4.Lawernce
5.Tupou/Daniela
6.Taumata/Lui/Marshall
7.Marshall/Moltzon

But our last signing MUST be a prop.We are 1 or 2 props away of being a top 4 side

Burgess or Scott!

So far, if i was picking the team next year, it would look like this

1.Taumata
2.Tuiaki
3.Ayshford
4.Lawrence
5.Daniela/Tupou
6.Moltzen
7.Marshall

That would be enough
I have heard rumblings that we're going to sign Burgess in 2010 for 2011

**Daily Telegraph 17 July, 2009**

It's official - NRL bad boy **Arana Taumata** will be a Tiger next season. Wests have staved off Melbourne to secure the talented youngster, who has already been sacked by three clubs for poor behavior. Wests Tigers have agreed to find Taumata suitable living and counselling arrangements after he was lead astray as a teen by sharing units with large groups of older players.

Good news. If this kid reaches his potential - it could be the best buy in the clubs short history

Well, if the Tele says so it must be true!
Damn good news though. Quite exciting really

Nothing official from the club yet though…..not surprised....

Taumata definately is a talent...still unproven in first grade but a welcome addition none the less....If Lui gets the call up as well then along with Taumata and Marshall they will certainly entertain...

I want more than entertainment from them next year. I think that '010 will be our best season aside from '05\. IMO this year is out the door, so we **have** to blood: Lui, Davidson and give Dwyer, Mataka and Laurie much more game-time…

If he stays off the grog, he will be a good proposition. I think that he will play in the halves next year, but with his exceptional acceleration and speed he could slot in at fullback ( Like others have mentioned).

They probably wanna keep this signing as low key as possible, would be good though to hear something official.

Be a part of the game plan, indeed. Pfft

I read in RLW that he officially signed with us ??

True ??

True.

The club has released nothing official regarding Taumata's signing….so at this point it is still speculation....

I'd like to hear something so we know if its a Wests Tigers contract or a State Cup contract, the less we hear the more i think it may be a second tier contract.
