Are Fifita and Gibbs off to the Sharks?

so according to some people on this forum when Bennett won't pay 350k for any prop in the game he is a genius and a great coach but if we wont pay it to a 21 yr old with 30 fg games under their belt who even next yr would play off the bench behind Galloway and Woods then tigers management are crazy

If you guys are getting peeved now…can't wait to see you all blow up deluxe when the club comes clean with the rest of the news. This is only the beginning. I'm so angry with WT right now i could punch babies!!

The Daily Telgraph gets 95% of stories wrong.

However, Rothfield normally gets Sharks stories right as he's a Sharks fan and mates with their entire board and staff.

The story looks to be real, unfortunately.

Either you are making crap up or Humphreys is.

Why would i make up crap?? I didn't start this thread…

Not doubting you mate. Just saying that either you OR Humphreys are talking BS.

That's cool.
As i said, i didn't start this thread. I was just backing it up as "very highly likely" with what info i have and can share. Contracts and futures are up on stakes here, which is why i can not always give every minor detail away.
As for what has eventuated this morning with the media, you can see i wasn't the one making up B.S.
But i have now lost all faith in Pixie Humphreys and WT for not coming clean with Fifita and his contract negotiations. That is why earlier in this thread i mentioned Fifita was "not definitely re-signed yet" even AFTER the WT media report that you copied and pasted.

If we lost fifita last year I wouldn't have been worried. He was lazy, undisciplined and only wanted the ball when we were 20m out from the opposition line. However this year he has improved out of sight and has Bern one of our best all year. He has been at the club 3 years and has never missed more then a week or 2 due to injury. He has slimmed down, really gets his hands dirty and is the most aggressive player in our pack.

I would be devastated to lose him, it's hard to imagine him not being a rep player with in the next few years

I also am confused at letting Fifita go to relieve salary cap pressure. What could he possibly be on - $180K?

If he is leaving to chase bigger bucks then so be it. However I agree that if this is the case then we should be signing the lower grade talent to long term deals.

Very sorry to see Andrew go. What about David though? Is it a package deal? The two are close, but I would be very surprised if Andrew left and David stayed.

The word is that the Sharks have offered massive overs ($350K or thereabouts) and we would not match it.

I think Blair will be a great signing, but Fifita is a MASSIVE loss. No doubt about it.

Fifita on 350 is a better deal than Blair on 500\. Cronulla could have probably taken up either option and if the rumours are true it appears they have made the better deal.

Do you honestly believe we will be paying Blair 500K? I think that figure is rubbish, and even if it wasn't, that figure would be boosted by third-party payments.

Even if we did not sign Blair, I doubt we would have matched the Sharks' offer: we don't seem to ever pay overs for players. I love Fifita, but he is not worth that much, that is top dollar, and not what a 21 year old prop should be earning. I'm sure the club wanted to keep him and probably offered him a very good deal, just not what the Sharks have offered.

I can understand the club trying to re-invigorate the place, and while it is VERY disappointing to lose Fifita, I still think Blair is a much needed signing. We need some fresh blood, the players are in their comfort zone, the place needs a shake up. A few people will be unhappy but I applaud the club for making some tough decisions.

finally some sense.

good post mate

Sounds true and it sounds like a big mistake to me. Time will tell but at the moment Fifita is killing them and he will be a big loss.

I don't see getting Blair as being worth the price of losing Fifita and Gibbs but I hope its either not true or I'm wrong.

Everyone As a few previous threads were saying we were always knew we were going to lose one of our new big three . Woods , BMM or Fifita . Unfortunately that is the nature of the salary cap . If we kept Fifita we probably risked losing both BMM and Woods . Woods will be a far better prop long term than Fifita will be in my opinion . This is the best decision for the club for the future

agree

in the last few seasons we have developed, Lawrence, Ayshford, Lui, Motlzen, Dwyer, who have all gone to the next pay level along with the new props BMM, Woods and Fifita.

we were always going to lose some of this new young talent, and if we have to lose players i think front row is the place we can cover best, we have in addition to BMM and Woods, we also have Groat, Bergovich and junior racquoi…..at least 1 or 2 of these players will become a good first grader.

the nature of the modern game is you cant keep all of them, particuarly if we keep generating the quality juniors we are at the momment

Bergovich? Racquoi? Jeez you have the internet right at your fingertips. If you aren't sure how to spell their names just google them. If I was Roqica or Begovich and saw that I'd be a bit sore that a fan that seemingly is so involved with the team that they post on a team forum can't spell my surname.

If we lose Fifita to bring in an outsider in Blair then I'll be far from happy. He is by far our most talented prop who has also proved he is up to first grade standard compared to the younger guys coming through.

Silver linings…....

I share everyones concern regarding the possibility of losing Fifita. He really does appear to be a good prospect but..........

Really we have all been waiting for this day since 2005\. Since that bolt of lightning our young team has matured and a fresh batch of stunning juniors have developed and come into senior ranks. In the 6 years since I dont believe we have lost a SINGLE player that we needed to keep and have continually bumped up the values of our best players (Marshall, Farah, Lawrence) as well as added Ellis & Tuquiri. This has continually placed upward pressure on the cap and all the time I have been wondering how they could do it. Well it seems it is time to pay the piper.

I really think that there is a silver lining to all this potential heartache. I think it is doing EXACTLY what all the naysayers here have wanted and will really shake the place up. Of course ideally we would want to keep Fifita but it appears that is the price we are going to have to pay.

I agree that Fifita is a great prospect, but I am concerned that he is a little bit of a one trick pony. His "aggression and impact" that everyone refers to is usually just a big fend that he uses. When he goes on one of these runs, he is VERY difficult to pin down and it is impressive BUT it rarely results in massive meters gained and always invariably results in a slow play the ball because he is continually thrashing about.

No great loss imo Fafita will turn out to be another Daine Laurie, full of raw ability and potential but will go nowhere, i bet in 3 years from now he's not playing NRL. He's too concerned about stopping to fend everyone off than just running, if someone could coach the fend change arm fend out of him he might go ok.
As for Gibbs well it's sad to see him go he's been a great player for this club but it think we've got the best years out of him so from a business pov letting him go is a good move.

I don't reckon that's the case at all.

You can already see Fifita's improvement from last season to this. He looks to have slimmed down and trained hard to improve himself.

Comparing him to Daine Laurie is harsh, although I do remember Laurie was being talked up as a good prospect when he first came onto the scene.

No offence, but do you really need to make this post he made a spelling mistake big deal! No wonder people are leaving this forum or not posting copping it for spelling mistakes.

I really think you are being a bit anal about it Mac . Most of us knew who Goose was talking about . Didn't realize we were being involved in a spelling bee as well as a Forum . Ok Goose you need to write ten times the words Begovich and Roqica for Mac . Happy now Mac .
