Are they playing for the coach?

I just don't think the coach is the issue. Our team is not strong. I know the pre-season allows you to imagine how good it could be, but the reality is that we don't have good players.

The really good thing about the recruitment and what must be madge's approach is that we're signing promising players on reasonable contracts and building a team. That is our approach, and it makes sense because we can't get the superstar players, and even if we could I don't know that we have a good enough squad to make that be worthwhile anyway.

So, everyone's having a go, but what else can be done? The players he has bought have mostly shown promise, and those who aren't that good aren't on big or long term contracts. Again, that seems smart.

Today wasn't coaching, we have a weak squad going up against one of the heavyweights in the comp who are in brilliant form. Obviously they could have played better and they haven't started well but you all have to stop being so reactionary.

If I could get Bennett or Bellamy or Robinson I'd sack Madge, otherwise there's a bunch of good enough coaches out there who wouldn't make a bit of difference to this team.

Honestly , BJ and Luci can’t be next to each other . Look at the right side . There was zero defensive mistakes all game . How many times was Brooks making one on one tackles against their back rower . That’s utter bull crap . BJ scant keep his spot , and Brooks needs to go back to basics . That whole edge needs a rethink . It Was disgusting . Like Madge said , everything they do looks pedestrian like they’re going through a training drill . Nothing is at pace . I’d be swapping Garner and Luci , and dropping BJ for talau . And I’d look at Hoffman for a wing spot , or look to buy someone of quality .

Does anyone know who our attacking coach is?
Last year now looks like we were solely/too dependent on Benji in this aspect and despite having someone sharp as Laurie, this year looks like we've worsened.

Same bloke as last year, Shane Millard.

I agree with just about all of that. BJ is unplayable. Not just the errors, the guy just plays so erratically the whole backline and defensive line gets messy whenever he's involved. It's a bit like Josh Reynolds in just overplaying all the time.

I think people forget this. I know it's Madge's third year at the club but the first two years were really trying to weed out the players he doesn't want and try sign a few decent guys. Now he's for a squad of mostly guys he wants but a lot them are still developing and not at their peak yet.

Don't get me wrong there's stuff Madge needs to fix, but a lot of our guys are in that 19-23 age bracket where the have still got a long way to go.

Pretty much all the average players we've got will be gone after this season bar Mbye (who Madge didn't sign) and Brooks. Garner too but he is a fine bench player. Really there's not one off contract player I would be upset about losing bar Liddle.

The structures are probably right . But if it’s not at pace , and at the line , it’s all pointless .
The roosters are so crisp . And so we’re the Raiders . Everything we do is before the line , and we can’t keep doing that . If it was me I’d be happy to just play short to a barnstorming backrower all game . At the very least it dents the line .
Luci is not an edge player IMO. He seems like the perfect lock . He doesn’t hit a hole , and really his best skill , is holding the ball up to hit support runners . Tuilagi is a good edge player , and apparently Shaun Blores best attribute is his hole running .

There is something drastically wrong this team. Most of them are so called "confidence "players who start to put their heads down when things start going wrong. Brooks is one who really comes into mind and he is the one charged getting that attack moving.

There are at least one or two players who don't care how they and the team performs. Whose responsibility is it to correct these problems - it faals very heavily on the coach, This coming week is really crunch time. If Madge doesn't address these problems the club is is going to be in worse trouble than it has been for the past five years.

Just seems unorganised out there and that's on the spine. No one was deep enough and running onto the footy

Luc can definitely run good lines he's shown that but seems like the idea is to give him early ball instead, they need to mix it up and get him
Running lines too. Can't wait to see Blore out there

I walked away from the ground mesmerised with just how good of a footy team the roosters are. Seriously any of their forwards could probably play in the halves better than our stock. It’s like they time their plays to a metronome, everything is just so in sync. Then you have teddy to finish it off

We are a long way off competing for anything if that’s the bench mark

The thread title speaks for itself. They gave up today, pretty obvious. 2 players have already walked out mid contract the last two years. Whose to say there aren’t even more unhappy players in the ranks. Though at this point are they even worth losing? Do they even care? If not, why? I’m sure this thread will ruffle a few feathers, but tough

Your guessing stuff, you like all (most) of us have no idea what happens behind the scenes?

Though the only measurement in our game is winning, imo, but we still have a lot of games to go? I’m not panicking yet.

We have played two sides that should be in the top 4 so it's not all doom and gloom YET.I would expect changes for the next game with JTJ back in and Joey L in state cup if that upsets his brother there's the door don't let it hit you in the rear on the way out. I wish Twal could develope an off load at the moment we are to predictable.

Could MCK move into the middle ? Hear me out , it’s not crazy talk . His front on defence is good , he has a quick play the ball , and can offload . It’s either that or Luci or Tuki gets the jersey he’s gonna wear for the rest of his career early .

I can't work out why we never do any plays that go through the hands or put on any backline moves. Our whole attack is give the ball one out and let that player run with it while everyone else stands and watches (looks like watching an u8s game).

Then once in every 50 plays Brooks premeditates an inside ball and passes it despite the man on the inside being covered by two props to receive a hospital pass.

Because none of the edges outside of Garner , are running at pace , so brooks looks to the edge , same as Laurie , and there’s nothing on , so they go back inside .

I don’t think he has lost the players or them not playing for him , he just doesn’t have the right balance for the way he coaches or wants to play . His style requires to have the best packs or better packs in the comp and the backs play off it . Until he can build a pack like he did at the rabbits he won’t do sweet all .

Yeah that's what I'm saying. No one is deep and no one runs onto anything. They all just stand there and watch

Tbh I reckon our team is just stupid. Low IQ.

They just stand there like stunned mullets that look like they're making it up as they go in attack. We need someone with some aggression and passion who demands the ball (M. Moses..) and someone who will actually organise the backline and backrowers to work together as a team and pick out the right moments and places to attack

It took Brad Arthur 4 seasons to get the Eels to the finals. Took Rick Stuart 3 years to get the Raiders there. Took Cleary 3 years to get Penrith there (the first time).

John Morris has coached Sharks to the finals 2 years in a row, never missed one.

I'm pretty sure John Morris isn't currently a better coach than Madge or Ricky Stuart.

We weren’t moving up mate, we made them look even better than they are. Left side was the worst I’ve seen in all my years watching the game.
