Madge is not much of a tactician...in fact, he is very poor at in game adjustments and tactics for different sides. Bennet also is not much of a tactician, but he balances it with Jason D, who is excellent.

We needed that balance IMO. An assistant who was able to 'balance' Madge's in your face / motivational stuff.

Collins is decent, but def not a tactician.

That Souths premiership winning coaching line is getting a bit overused IMO...it was a unique team in that the owner recruited all of the big names. Burgess...Inglis...

Most coaches would have won that year with the roster.

I would have liked someone more modern than Collins, rather than just "well, he was an assistant at souths when they won".

You really don’t give Madge enough credit for winning a premiership. He helped build and shape that roster, as we’ve seen with quite a few teams the last season being good on paper doesn’t equal results if you can’t coach.

I really wouldn’t have cared if we got Flanagan as an assistant but can understand not getting him. Collins is a good coach and I hope he, Madge and Millard can help get us going a bit next season.

He deserves credit, as do all coaches who win a comp. I don't think he really shaped the team much though. The halves were in place and the big gun recruitment was all owner driven. It was very unique.

I am a Madge fan, as you likely know by now, but you tell me any high profile recruits he has landed?

Burgess and Inglis went purely because of Crowe.

I just would have liked someone who balanced Madge a bit...a tactician who could maybe bring some fresh ideas. Collins is not that guy.

I expect Millard is the tactician considering he’s our attack coach as far as I know

Nothing personal on Millard ..but in his NRL career how many tries , try assists , line breaks , line break assists did he provide

He’s our attack coach and it was vastly improved. Defence on the other hand not so much.

We need a good defence coach.
Attack is not our issue.

We had the 7th best attack (points scored)
Better than parra and knights and only 5 points behind raiders.

But defence we are 13th in defence letting in almost double more than parra did.

Inside opposition 20 we score points pretty easily. Getting down their and defence are the issues, and Madge has signed two new props and is getting a new defence coach

It might not work but we can’t say he’s not trying to fix the issues lol.

But we had to take huge risks on many occasions to score those points or to get into field position to score those points

When it doesn't come off it puts huge pressure on your defence

Completely agree. Great record as an assistant before his dogs stint and even got that rabble defending as a team

Indeed he would.

Re our attack, a lot of it was off the cuff Benji stuff (second in the NRL for assists) rather than any structured plays.

Ideal set up would be:

Madge - Head coach / sets the culture / sets the work ethic
Attacking coach: Young with fresh ideas / a legit tactician. Ideally a recently (past 5-10 years)retired half who was noted for their IQ.
Defensive coach : someone like Pay...a proven D warrior as a player...did very well as an assistant in Canberra...even his horrible Dogs teams often put in a decent D effort despite the odds.

Yes I agree..... very good coach that could at times act as counter balance to Madge hard nosed approach.

I'd also see if Ciraldo is available I know he is highly regarded, in a tight competition any competative edge you can get can be the difference. I'll leave it to Madge thow as his jobs on the line if he doesn't get results.

With Webster and hodgo both leaving we've got two spots available. One may he for Collins, the other should he someone from outside the club with fresh ideas

To be fair, Collins has never been involved with tigers before. He wasn’t in the bubble this year so didn’t get to do anything with the boys.

Curious as to who’s doing what role. Millard seems to be our attack coach and Webster did defence, wonder if Collins will take on the defensive side of things or if he’ll just be a general assistant.

wondering if the third assistant spot won't be filled due to the reduction of the football department cap? the club may believe that money is better spent elsewhere, but that said, Madge will need all the help he can get.

The new cap won't reduce our spending.

Let’s face who ever was involved in are defence coaching needs to go NOW , we need new blood

I think that Benji has left the building.

Apparently Madge snubbed Flanagan, probably scared he would take his job.

Or the fact he is a multiple occasion cheat. Best decision Madge has made in a long time.

Leilua and Nofoalum are major contributors as well. Not much will change. Leilua is 28 and still hasn't learnt.
