Backline defence

It’s no secret that Cronulla have a beastly line up of outside backs. They are all fast, strong, athletic and really hard to bring down.
Last night was no different, they played really well. They ran for 750m with 212 of those post contact and 24 tackle breaks between them. They were busy and caused headaches with our back 5 missing 14 tackles trying to contain them.

They also scored 0 tries.

Our boys had each other’s backs and covered really well. They put in the extra effort to close them down when half breaks were occurring. Those 24 tackle breaks only resulted in 3 line breaks. It was a great effort.

The team effort was very good and that how you nullify attacking teams , in their face defence and it was across the park from our guys all game , that display would have beat most teams in the comp last night , Eels are a similar team to sharks , big forwards fast backs but we will match that again with steel, defence ,

Yeah it was. I think that level of effort across the park last night is too high for Toa. He would have been a weak link and can't see him making back in there once he recovers if the rest keep up that intent. ( barring injury)

Compare Olam’s attack and defence versus Toa… lots of impact on both sides of the ball,, im sure Toa tries his best but his influence on any game is very limited…

I have always respected Olam as a player .. however I started to think he was getting long in the tooth… he turned the clock back a couple of years last night … let’s hope he keeps healthy and playing at that level because he is one of the most important guys in the squad in 2024…

Olam was great & is easy to appreciate a top class player playing to his ability.

For mine, the efforts of Fataape in 2 weeks have really been largely glossed over. Hard assignments 2 weeks in a row, and his game has improved. 2 games into his NRL career. Just very proud watching guys like this get their shot & stand up.
