Backrow composition

Watching the Test match earlier this month, Blair came on from the bench for a short spell and really tried to provide energy and lift his side. Its effectiveness i cant judge, but at least Blair gave it a real go!!
Potter may replicate this tactic and further coach Blair on how to improve in that role!

11\. Fulton (80 min workhorse)
12\. Pettybourne (good go forward)
13\. Anasta (his natural position, can ball play/support attacking plays)

Bench:
- Blair (impact player)
- Murdoch-Masila (impact player)
- A Prop
- Thompson (covers centre, back row)

Would love to see these two be used as impact players. Running good lines at the opposition late in the halves.
Our bench back rowers rotating with Anasta and Pettybourne to keep them fresh and effective.
This year BMM has been our ONLY impact player off the bench.

Regarding Blair in the Test. I cant stand him..but he seemed to play centrefield in that game , not left outside as per Teflon and his involvement was more..

I think it will be
11.blair
12.fulton
13.anasta

But I think there's no impact there. So I'd have 11.blair
12.BMM
13.anasta

14.fulton - he can cover as a utility.

eddie, i have been thinking the same for a while, our balance in the forwards is up the creek. On a positive we have the best young prop in the game, we also have big red who when fit dosnt get the raps he deserves, but its the balance that is all wrong. You cant have Fulton and Anasta in the same 17, both do the same job. We dont have a hard man. In reality we have a skillful pack that is SOFT. The Storm proved last year that its hardness that wins big games more than skill.

I wish Harry well, but he needs to beef up the pack before we will go anywhere

If you play Bell at lock you have no need to bolster the pack , Fulton needs to be kept to look after either Benji or Miller

Anasta's defence isn't bad and if gives us added attacking options outside either Miller or Marshall depending on which side we play them and if we play Simona and Lawrence in the centres they will help with added speed out wide

Prepared to give Nofoaluma and Koroibete first run on the wings , so having two second rowers who can ball play either side of the ruck will create more chances for our outside backs with the added speed we will have

Add Tedesco at fullback who will help create far more second phase and is far better than our other option at 1 .

Props pick themselves (Keefy and Woods) with Robbie at hooker

Happy Tiger, you can have all the strike power in the world in the backs, but without some real hard mongrels in the pigs you will struggle year after year and let me tell you thats the truth, and we lack it big time

Totally agree SC but we can only go to the party with what we currently have and until we get other players this is what will have to get the job done unfortunately

That is the sad truth and is why I honestly can't see us making the Top 8 in 2013

The big question is, does WT have any money left to buy at least one hard mongrel front rower?

If I was in charge I'd have Miller at 7, Marshall at 6 on the left (with Rowdy and Koro outside) and Anasta at 13 as a second 5/8 on the right (with Ayshford and Utai outside).

I'd have Fulton and Blair starting second rowers, with Bell, BMM, Pettybourne and Thompson as reserves. Thomson would cover the back line for injuries but otherwise we'd have him, BMM and Petty in a five man rotation for second row and three man rotation for front row (Bell, Woods, KG).

Well as far as i know we were going to sign Brent Kite so there must be cash left hopefully we can get 1 or 2 big props on cheap money.

I think you have to start with:

13\. Anasta (need his kicking game in general play, his defence is not the worst, offers another playmaker)

12\. Pettybourne/BMM (need someone to hit it up strong, one to start and the other on the bench)

11\. Fulton (80 minute tackling machine who makes vital tackles. Would always be in my side)

Bench

Pettybourne/BMM ( whoever doesn't start)
Blair ( Think he will go better under Potter also can be pit into the prop rotation if needed during a game)
Thompson (can cover centre as well)
Prop (next best one we have after Woods and Sauce)

"There'll be a little bit of structure there and we'll play to our strengths. If our strength is moving the ball, then we'll move the ball.

"I don't want to stifle Benji's style. I think he had the highest amount of try assists last season and I don't want to stifle that."

I think you would restrict his effectiveness limiting him to one side….hes a right foot kicker too as is miller

We haven't changed the style of play our back row has played in years with Sheens appearing to prefer quantity over quality. Our forwards are continually out muscled & I don't remember too many games our forwards have gotten on top of the opposition pack. I wouldn't be surprised if our pack was in the bottom 5 clubs for meters gained by the forwards this season. My back row would be
11\. Blair- would like him to put on some weight & get back to his playing weight at the Storm & have him play less minutes.
12\. Pettybourne I believe we need at least one 2nd rower that hits the ball up hard & will get us some good meters. The only three 2nd rowers in our ranks that fill this role are him, BMM & Thompson (not so much as the other two)
13\. Anasta for his better ball playing ability compared to Fulton & I would have him playing on the same side of the field & next to Miller.

In my opinion our whole team should be different it has been the same for years as weststigers4life pointed out, we can try

1\. Tedesco/Rowe
2\. Nofoaluama
3\. Ayshford/Simona
4\. Lawrence
5\. Koroibete

The 1-5 needs to change, we have had

1\. Moltzen
2\. Tuqiri
3\. Lawrence
5\. Ayshford
5\. Utai

For the past couple of years and it is not very hard for the opposition to destroy us on the wings. The defence by some of those players is horrible and also Tuqiri is slower than a snail Utai is not far behind him.

Our halves pairing MUST not change unless there is an injury it should be

6\. Marshall
7\. Miller

If any injuries hopefully not we can have

6\. Sironen
7\. Marshall

That halves pairing only lost one game out of 5 i think, I did not include the cowboys game as Sirro went down injured along with other players and we were leading till Siro went down.

Our forwards went great this year and were one of the best in my opinion so that will stay the same.

8\. Woods
9\. Farah
10\. Galloway

The second row was not as good it needs a reshuffle and also the loss of Ellis and Heighno will allow us to do so.

11\. Pettybourne
12\. Ben Murdoch Masila
13\. Anasta

That would be my second row, Has a bit of size and all those guys are not afraid to take on the line, BMM needs a starting spot he is a destroyer and we need that, Anasta was great in 2010 when he played in the second row he is not a five-eighth. Pettybourne may be the buy of the year he is a great player and hopefully he can do what he does at the rabbits here.

The bench is based on what we saw this year

14\. Sironen
15\. Fotuiaka
16\. Blair
17\. Fulton
18\. Utai

SOme good impact off the bench we all have seen Fulton and Blair in there best form and they are great, I will be willing to give Fotuiaka and Sironen a chance at first grade ahead of Utai.

1.Tedesco
2.Nofo
3.Simona
4.Lawrence
5.Korobietre

11.Blair
12.Sironen
13.Fulton

14.Bell
15.BMM
16.Anasta
17.Pettybourne
18.Ayshford

Very lightweight 11-12-13…..will be pushed around with ease

Thats the problem though Ink ,the blokes we have with size that can play second row are pretty lazy defensively and to have them looking after Benji and Miller is not good

Whilst Blair is out of form the less time he spends on the field the better, so he should be a pine warming impact player who should put on some kilo's during the off season. I know he become the worlds most exspensive bench player but thats better than his current "worlds most expensive dud" label he currently has.

Blair can play some good footy in shorter bursts so this might be an option Potter takes. BMM can be used as a back rower to add some size and go forward.

I'm very confident that we will see a vastly improved Adam Blair this coming season under Mick Potter.

We will be a little more Melbourne like I hope.

Yeah I don't see it as too much of an issue. There are spots up for grabs with Potter in charge and its up to the players to put their hands up.

Bell played his best footy at lock and Anasta can do a solid job there too. Fulton will be around. Blair will start and hopefully improve his impact on games.

Pettybourne will be a good buy I think. Thompson has a chance to cement a spot. Murdoch Masilla will be around the team too.
And then there are the options from the 20s who others may know better.

Fulton or bell NEED to start, they're our best defensive backrowers and we're noticeably worse as a whole when neither start. I'd like:

11\. Blair (extra weight plus different lines and he could be dangerous close to the line)
12\. Pettybourne/BMM (both high impact and hard hitters, the other on the bench)
13\. Fulton (I think he needs to be in the middle to tighten up the ruck, as well as be a link if needed)
