Backrow composition

fulton has to be 11 or 13\. attack wise, i think he is the perfect 11 for us as he runs the angles we need him to. however defensively, his best spot is 13 imo where he neatly tightens up the middle for us. however, attackwise, when we have farah, benji and a halfback doing the playmaking, i dont want fulton to be a ball playing lock.. imo it takes away his strength, which is angle running.

that said, i know MP has said anasta could play lock.. i dont agree with that. i think anasta's best spot is in the backrow where he runs the anglesas he decides whether the outside backs should get the ball or not.

however, my problem is that with anasta and fulton…two 80 minute backrowers means we get no go forward from our backrowes, a massive problem we faced this year.

i have been a firm believer of blair on the bench, although since he does have potential (this is plainly going from what people thought of him at storm, personally i dont see much, but i could be wrong), i would like him to play his best position at either lock or wide running backrower in the startin line up under potter.

start of the season, we thought the backrow would be our strength this year, however it turned out to be a weakness.

halves and backrow will shape our season this year imo.

I think id play anasta as an edge back rower on the right coupled with Ayshford, that would add little skill to that side of th field. Id play fulton on the left edge and rotate Bell and blair in the middle

I'm very confident that we will see a vastly improved Adam Blair this coming season under Mick Potter.

We will be a little more Melbourne like I hope.

Please explain what is .." more Melbourne like .."

I watched play him play for Melbourne after it was announced he was coming to us..and thats when I first suggested he was trouble. When I saw him play he played exactly as he plays for us..he did stuff all , sat out on the left.
He is overrated…lazy...not big enough....not fast enough...not enough ball skill ( unless you call throwing the ball over your head, ball skill)..not tough enough. ( not unless you call giving away dumb penalties as tough ).

not for me..give me Fulton any day..first backrower picked.

Wow!!! The Melbourne and New Zealand selectors should be replaced immediately. How on earth could they pick such and incompetent player? It is beyond me. Any suggestions why they did that 1974semifinal?

I can only go on what I saw…and the way he played this year..maybe they got it wrong...

He did not have good year, however he was not alone in that department. No halfback, no direction, players out of position etc. etc.

If you think he was hopeless, what is your opinion of the year (or 2 ) that Moltzen had?

I think I said overrated..not hopeless.

Moltzen..He sure aint a fullback, but Teflon kept playing him there. I think a stint in the reserve grade might be coming his way before he plays Fg again ( please !!)

With Blair..its everybody putting him straight into their First grade team for next year after what he showed this year., it's unreal.
.I have not been a fan of Blair since the day he signed and was bagged on this Forum initially ..but I was vindicated in the end.

But from now on they pick themselves by their performance .

Well Blair will have no excuses in 2013 ,no doubts Potter will want some structure so it should be right up Blair's alley

yeh same here mate, but i havent seen him play for melb before he signed with us.. so as you said, we both could be wrong.

if potter has seen what blair can/cant do, im ready for him to be in the starting line up. i just dont know what he is good at tbh.. i sure do know what he is bad at though :unamused:

Looking forward to see how potter uses his bench rotation.
Sheens would have his starting forwards play big minutes which naturally leads to tiredness and ineffectiveness.
Heighno used to give away some stupid penalties, which also coincided to him playing 80 minutes a game. This year he was given stints on the bench and seemed to be a little more effective. Perhaps we'll see the same with blair next year.

It is important that Blair is injected differently than he has in the past. After having a season with most of the players, this should play a positive on his next one with them. Maybe being rotated more, and not being guaranteed that staring position will be good for his game.
It is also a real shame that Dwyer wont be with us, outstanding player there and would have brought a lot to our 2nd row.

Very lightweight 11-12-13…..will be pushed around with ease

Watmough and Stewart are no bigger and Manly do fine,Anasta would be as big or bigger than both those blokes,we will be ok,Potter will be very different to Sheens, and we will be a completely different team

Lock - Anasta

Second row - Fulton

Second row - Pettybourne

Bench:

Blair
Bell
BMM
Thompson (play in backs and forwards)

Watmough plays well above his weight and both he and Stewart have heaps of mongrel

Anasta is too busy asking for a hairbrush and a spray tan

Very harsh on Braith, in the 2010, the year he played as a back rower he was very good, played a huge role in getting them to the GF.

I know he whingers to the refs a bit, but he is tough enough, runs the hard unders line very well.

Pretty good chin, everyone remember David Fa'alongo whacking him, barely shook him…

the names of the players in the backrow will not until further notice be picked on reputation but 'form' according to Micks bible, Based on that I dont care if Elmer Thud packs down in the backrow. I just want the hungriest 3.
