Awesome win for Balmain from the sounds of it. For those who were there, who were the standouts? Any signs of improvement from Tame Tupou, and has David Fifita continued his trend of recent improvement? Any notable additions or withdrawals from the side?

The Balmain Ryde-Eastwood Tigers have kept their Minor Premiership aspirations alive with a 46-10 win over the Cronulla Sharks at Leichhardt Oval this afternoon (August 14).

Five second half tries to the Balmain outfit took the game away from Sharks as they were unable to stem the tide of wave after wave of Balmain attack.

Two of the tries were brilliant team efforts with superstar front-rower David Gower in the mix in both of them and there was also a dazzling hundred metre individual try to Brett Lane.

The pick of the second half tries was Lane's first where St George Illawarra bound Gower broke the line and delivered a deft pass to the fullback to score under the sticks.

The Tigers started the better of the two sides with an early try to winger Joseph Uluibau in the seventh minute. Uluibau pounced on a Darren Nicholls grubber and placed the ball down just inches inside the in-goal.

The Tigers went within inches of being successful with the same play some 20 minutes later but Matt Parata was able to get a finger tip to the ball and send it dead in goal.

Balmain Ryde-Eastwood halfback Blake Lazarus scored the first four of his tally of 20 points in the 30th minute when he snuck over from dummy-half. Balmain were in again just five minutes later through centre Matthew Ryan, who was worthy of the man of the match award.

Cronulla managed two second half tries to Matt Parata but it was the Balmain side who claimed the two points and continued to put pressure on the Canterbury Bankstown-Bulldogs and Newtown Jets in the race for the 2010 NSW Cup Minor Premiership.

I think Coach Fletcher has found a rock solid combination in Ryan at centre and Lane on the wing. Spectacular game by both and both having good size amongst them in defence.
Gower seems to have dropped off a little in recent weeks, Farlow was outstanding in defence once again.
Good to see Cowan pick up his sense of urgency at the back.
Lazarus still having a bit of trouble finding grass with his long range kicking game, but his deft hands let the ball do the magic for him.
Fifita dropped off his intensity from recent weeks, but is still progressing getting his work rate up.

Fifita had his best game for the club in State Cup so far. Hard work at the ruck and good straight metres all day.

A very fine team performance overall

Great news. With Andrew also having his best game of the season defensively in first grade, it`s a sign that they both might really be maturing into the footballers they are capable of.
