A lot of people on here throw their arms in the air and yell the old catch phrase we are not Balmain and we are not Wests we are Wests Tigers.

It's back to front. We are Balmain. We are Western Suburbs. You can call us Wests, you can call us the Tigers, or Magpies or Balmain. You can call them the boys from Leichardt, or Campbelltown, or Concord. All are correct.

If only we were called the premiers.

Ryan girdler called them Balmain just last week on the rush hour on triple m….. I understand people see it differently but it does get frustrating....

Really? That's pretty crap. I get annoyed aswell when people call us balmain. I thought it had stopped.

What makes it worse is when no one corrects them… Everyone just accepts it on air.. I'm happy with just tigers, or Wests even tho it kills my old man ( an ex magpie player) but even he has accepted tigers now... Just not Balmain.

I don't know if it's nobility or commonsense why Wests aren't kicking Balmain to the curb. What's the difference between owning 100% to 75% or 51% for that matter. Once they control the board the percentage of ownership is irrelevant. Even if they allow Balmain to buy back 25% so it's 50/50 I'm sure that'll be in ownership only and not in governance. Wests won't want or allow it to go back to the debacle of a split board.
Allowing Balmain to have a minor shareholding keeps their juniors locked up, it keeps the old Balmain fans invested and it is an extra revenue stream if ever they get their club up and running.

Last time I heard them called Balmain was at the Souths game last year when Marty Tapau ran over the top of them. An elder Souths supporter who was very upset that we were smashing them reacted when we got penalised for not getting off the tackled player yelled out " typical Balmain have been lying down since 1969" - some people never get over things.

2 cents in the dollar? Even then I think you're being very generous.

It would be a pretty sad auction when all the trophies, original photographs and jerseys went under the hammer, but it'd raise some cash. We're talking 100 years of Rugby League history. Throw in the office furnishings and Wests could probably get a few hundred thousand hocking the family silver and recover a portion of the loan.

I don't think so, it would be prestigious stuff to hang on to. Could put it in the foyer of Wests Ashfield.

This isn't a shot at Balmain but unless the club changed it's name to the Wests Tigers Leagues Club there is no way any Balmain silverware should be on show in there. I hope you were joking?

Lol. It's a good line tho

You can't blame the people that matter for the odd fool in the media, calling this side Balmain.

I don't blame them, it's just never corrected… Just a pet hate that's all... I'm 100% sweet with the merger, and love the heritage from both sides this club has... But yeah, pet hate is all... It's not that hard after this many years.

It was a throwaway comment Shane, if you really want to get your knickers in a knot about it though go right ahead.

Roy still holds to old hatreds like Wests v Manly, Wests v the world… half our supporters don't even remember Maggies and the less we lean on those old biases, the better off we are.

Agree, don't lean or rely on them, but they are part of the JV story. Those old "emotions" are just as much part of the JV story as the 1909 GF and the ensuing hatred of Souths, the 61-63 GF's, the '69 GF….and dare I mention it the '89 GF.

I like these old rivalries…. they should be ours, and we should own them. To be fair the bunnies have generally been as poor as my old Magpies (in my lifetime), and I got a chuckle out of them to be honest (pre-rusty). The moment the JV was signed though, they became my enemy too, just as I hope Manly became the ire of the old Balmain faithful as well.

Expecting everybody to forget the past is a fools errand. My passion for the West Tigers was nurtured well before inception, just as many others were as well, and yes there are dinosaurs both ways who cannot accept change, but unfortunately they are part of the package deal.

We have to be proud of and embrace who we were, and how we became to be who we are now.

By the way, my username shows my old flag. My partner and son fly the orange as well... But that article was nothing but inflamatory rubbish, and we should all refuse to be drawn into the quagmire.

What Roy says is a 100%.
People who are called fossils are the ones who create business culture identity not 15yos. Look around the world.
Why are Canterbury (4 syllables ) mentioned more than Wests (1).

The idea anyone let alone in the media calls us Balmain or thinks we are a rebranded Balmain means they have been incorrectly indoctrinated by "fossils " so we need other "fossils " to correct it.
When many from the Balmain side early in this thread thought Balmain would be squeezed out one could detect they didn't want a taste of their own medicine.
When Balmain where rightly offered a good deal there was a silence but now all of a sudden the people from the Wests side are fossils for wanting a little portrayal.

I know many like this a bit like whats theirs is theirs and whats your is theirs. And i don't believe sadly that if the situation was reversed Wests would have got as good a deal.

Much has been done and more has to be done to balance things.

Why anyone would pay Roy to do anything these days is beyond me. Such dribble. Every single time. This isn't the 80s Roy. Why would the Herald stick with a dinosaur like him?

Because people like Girdler Sterling Ikin and other spin more dribble calling us Balmain .

Yeah we all had a laugh - which only served to get him more testy. Winners are grinners, and that was particularly good one.

Thanks Roy.

A professional sh*t stirrer if ever I saw one.

Hang on. Weren't you just having a chuckle a page or 2 back about the guy a few pages ago ripping into the Magpies? Now the shoe is on the other foot and you've lost your sense of humour. Double standards.

Hang on.

One guy is an anonymous member having an amusing meltdown on an internet forum, while the other guy is a paid journalist who has just spun a web of lies and half-truths in a major newspaper article.

You figure out the difference and get back to me, Mr Double Standards.

Could you elaborate on the lies and half truths in the article - there were definitely some dodgy opinions but I don't know about lies.

**Given this, the question must be asked: would Balmain do for Wests what Wests are doing for Balmain? Based on the early operation of the Wests Tigers joint venture, the answer would be, no.**

Lie.
Balmain did do exactly that for Western Suburbs.

**Big games were predominantly played at Leichhardt;**

Lie.
First ever JV match was played at Campbelltown, not Leichhardt. Thereafter all home games played at alternate venue. Which big games is he referring to?

**The players ran out in gold jumpers,**

Lie.
We have always has at least two jumpers, a black/white and a gold. Except for recently when the organge was shelved for grey.

**with the tiny magpie emblem on the sleeve obscured by tape;**

Half Truth
It was Balmain's idea that there be a magpie on the sleeve in the first place, as a sign of respect to the magpies. Turning it into an anti-Balmain comment is dishonest at best.

**ex-Tigers players became the popular spokesmen for the club**

Half truth.
Tommy is regularly trotted out for the press. The reality is that Balmain has a number of ex players who retained a strong media identity, not a contrived effort by the JV to promote them ahead of any ex-wests player.

Done know what the purpose of the article was, and I am killing brain cells still talking about it. My bad.
