Balmain Tigers to become extinct

I have had an epiphany and I will be called all names on this forum and possibly censored (this is the way of Australia in 2021) but here it goes:

This board (or people in power) want fans to be so fed up with the Tigers that there will come a time there is no resistance to when the pro-Magpie board decides to push to change the name to the “Wests Magpies” to officially kill the “Balmain Tigers” or any affiliation with the “Tigers” just like Manly Warringah Sea Eagles made North Sydney Bears a memory with the Northern Eagles situation.

I don’t agree with this.

But I don’t believe we have a team that gives a crap about playing for the jersey/badge. The bulk of our players are here for the pay packet.

The club don’t appear capable of changing this culture.

The Magpies are not dead, just not an NRL club.

Blame the people that sent Balmain broke .. The West’s group are the only entity that is keeping the Balmain name alive in any form ! I think the West’s group are paying to run the Balmain juniors might be wrong .
Take your garbage somewhere else the Weststigers is the name and always will be .. the board are struggling to keep the Weststigers relevant and struggle to make any positive decisions .

The Wests magpies have no brand , they didn’t before 1999. They have loyal fans , sure , even still , but that is not a brand to make money off . And that’s all these guys want to do . Make money . It’s about turning a Profit , of which they do now , every year . Winning is a football problem , not a board problem.
This is the real issue .

I don't agree I have worked for 10 years in marketing now. Tigers and tigers stripes, hell just the colours black and orange are much easier to sell than a magpie mate. On that basis alone it would be a very poor decision

If we go back to the dawn of time and there was an auction or tender for a name of an NRL team "Tigers" would be probably top pick. Chook, Rabbit maybe not so.

Parramatta wanted to merge with Balmain given that Denis Fitzgerald wanted the Tigers emblem for his club and was not interested in much else given that Balmain was travelling poorly at the time. Balmain decided to merge with Western Suburbs and it was agreed to use the Tigers emblem for the new merged entity for obvious reasons, i.e. the Tigers branding is among the best in the league.

Wests Magpies/Wests Ashfield are unable to change it.

"It will never be changed to Wests Magpies"

Your epiphany is a non event according to the NRL and so it should be - we ARE the Wests Tigers.

You can stop worrying … like all Clubs Wests Tigers is an NRL franchise .. it’s in there charter .. would never get approval from the NRL to change the name..

Plus Wests Ashfield love the Tiger it has been incorporated into the Leagues Club as most of the clientele love the Tiger also…very lucky..
