Balmain & Wests - Stone cold Broke ?

Dudes,
Spoke to a bloke today,
He told me that Balmain is perilously close to allegedly folding completely.
He said both Juniors and Seniors have owed the makers of their gear $60,000.00 since February and they can't pay it. The Leagues Club allegedly owe massive amounts to contractors for drilling at the abandoned Rozelle Leagues Club site.
He alleges that they are absolutely 100% busted and it looks like they will ask Wests Tigers to foot the bill for their gear.
The Wests Tigers might do so but the strong rumor is that they want the Balmain Juniors to come under the Wests Tigers umbrella and be called the Wests Tigers Juniors.

The same bloke told me that the Wests Magpies allegedly have not paid for their 2010 Gear and Blades refused to supply them for 2011, hence that is why they wear 'Carney Spaul' jersey's this year. The same bloke told me that he does not know where Wests DRLFC will get funding from to compete in 2012 or even to pay for the 2011 equipment.

Interesting interesting stuff.

This bloke is/was a stakeholder in both camps.

Probably more reasons to amalgamate both sides of the club and run under one banner once and for all Bug as painful as that would be for many concerned

The Magpies get their funding from Wests Ashfield Leagues club, and they are not broke and continue to fully fund the Magpies.

But we can find out the definitive truth on Saturday (about the Magpies at least)

Correct me if I am wrong, but the rozelle site (and associated works) is now owned by Rozelle Village entity, not Balmain.

Don't quote me on that though

I know that has been true in the past, but I am unsure as to how much (if any) Wests Ashfield can pump into it in the future.

That's right, the Balmain Leagues Club now have nothing to do with the site, but as a part of the zoning (nothing to do with the changes the Council decided to make without consultation last month) if there is any building on the site, it must include the club, hence why they will return there eventually.

I'm also not sure what Bug is on about, but it seems very fishy without confirmation of a reliable source, particularly since the facts surrounding the Leagues club are quite clear, and he has got them wrong.

matty119, they owe money because of initial jobs undertaken on the development. The Rozelle Village Group are the developers who have taken on the project shortly after it started. The initial project was undertaken by Balmain .

Don't shoot the messenger boys. If you read my initial post closely, you don't need to be a brain surgeon to see who my source is.

I know Rozelle Village own the land because they took it over with a promise of a grand development. Do Balmain own any land anywhere anymore ??

Does balmain have football club members like WSDRLFC? I dont mean tigers leagues club members.

i never do because i know what its like, but wests ashfield and wests campbelltown seem to make alot of money so i dont know how wests can be broke. maybe wests campbelltown should spend some money on the wests nsw cup side instead of wests ashfield paying for it all.

I guess its all about reality. How is balmain fc funded and what is the football member count? Same for wests?

Tigers Five Dock and Tigers Flemington first have to pay around $400K to the WT each year. Not sure if there would be anything left over really.

Bug - not exactly.

Any deficit in the operations of Wests Tigers is covered by the Wests Group and Balmain Football Club equally.

Going by annual reports, Wests Ashfield made a donation last season of $150,000\. My understanding is that Wests Campbelltown did not contribute. This implies that Balmain Football Club would have had to tip in $150,000 as well (from the Leagues). Both the Wests Group and Balmain have a maximum liability of $500,000 each to Wests Tigers.

Balmain Leagues indicates a donation to Balmain Football Club of $932,000\. Therefore, $782,000 went to the Balmain NSW Cup team and junior development.

Wests Ashfield had a $1.9m profit
Wests Campbelltown had a $3.8m profit
Balmain Leagues had a $3.2m loss (improvement on the previous year - $5.5m loss)

From all reports from some on this forum, apparently Wests Tigers will not require any funds this season from the partners as the business is now covering its expenses. This reduces the pressure and reliance on the leagues clubs. Going forward, the leagues clubs would preferably be a safety net for Wests Tigers.

Further down to the foundation football clubs, both would be broke if not for the leagues clubs. The problem for the Balmain Football Club is the position of Balmain Leagues. I can only assume this is driving the idea of a Wests Tigers team in the NSW Cup. I think there is also a role for Ryde-Eastwood to play. Can remember someone mentioning they would consider sponsoring the NSW Cup team.

WT may be funded sufficiently.. What does that mean for both nsw cup teams and respective junior leagues?

Bakerloo,
How is the Balmain DRLFC structured compared to the Balmain Leagues board? Also, how is their junior League Board structured? I know in years gone by it was a representative from each junior club. Is that still the case ?
