Balmain & Wests - Stone cold Broke ?

Its an interesting debate.. The clubs fighting for existance in the nsw cup seem to be clubs that have no presence in the nrl. (bears and newtown) clubs like manly and canberra are not fussed about having a nsw cup team. Cronulla has merged with storm in nsw cup. St george doesnt have a team but will reintroduce steelers in 2012\. Its seems that the magpies and balmain are the only clubs 'fighting to be in the nsw cup'. Wests magpies are fighting to keep the wests/magpies brand alive at senior level while balmain wont or cant 'fight' because the dominant tigers brand in the WT nrl team and dont need to keep the tigers brand alive (compared to wests)

Manly and Canberra couldn't care as they are a single entity Same as the Saints mainly They are in completely different situations

We are the best of 3 original amalgamations as we are basically a 50-50 split
Saints and Manly were a dominant partner in the others

I understand why people are fighting to keep the identities of the Magpies and the Tigers But it isn't in the best interests of the Wests Tigers which should be our No 1 priority all all times in every decision

From a business perspective you've pretty much hit the nail on the head Happy. It won't appeal to everyone, but financially it makes sense, and that's what will more than likely be the driving factor.

May be the only option that will keep everyone happy

Keep everyone happy, Happy??? Good luck with that

Well the club has to look at the best financial decisions to keep us profitable and viable

And the fans of both Balmain and Wests (which many of us are) need to remember that as well

Would you want to see the Wests Tigers go down the gurgler to keep both Balmain and Wests afloat ??
To a true fan of the Wests Tigers there is only one answer to that question

My team could wear baby poo brown each week and call themselves the bottom nuggets for all I care, its our team! Lets bloody support the TEAM. I have happy memories of what my team used to be, Now we are ONE!
I don't give a crap if we have two feeder teams, one or eight, and I don't care what they are called. As long as I can watch them each week, win a few, beat some of the big time teams, then I am a happy man! If we have to amalgamate them and save money and make us a strong brand, then so be it.

I don't get why others are hell bent on being what they were 50 years ago. Remember tradition and be proud of it, but today is TODAY!

If Wests Ashfield provide the funds for a magpie team then I can't see why it shouldn't happen if that is a tradition that one club wants to continue and as long as this money is outside of what Wests Tigers may have received.

3/4 of wt fans are old balmain and magpies fans. We should embrace our 200 years of history while we celebrate the exciting present and future of wests tigers. If magpies get to stay alive in nsw cup (a comp that nobody really cares much for anyway) and wests ashfield are supporting it then let it be!
