Banji may seek release to play rugby in japan

Tauber shouldbve been deregistered after the Molten schemozzle

Real good look for the club after he's been ringing dozens of people encouraging them to part with their hard earned, sign up for a new membership

Dont think Benjis inncoent and ignorant in all this….youd have to have your head firmyl up your hat to be that naive.

3 years ago when this last came up I would have been filthy, but now much less so because the Tigers have much more depth at five eighth than they did back then.

The way I see it, if this is true and Benji wants to earn some extra cash, then I say let him if it means he stays in Rugby League but misses half a dozen games or so because of schedule clashes. The Tigers now have Anasta who can play at 6, as well as Sirro, and a halves pairing of Miller and Sirro could be a very handy fill in if Benji was to suffer an injury in League anyway.

I would lose a lot of respect for Benji if he did this

It would mean he misses all off-season and pre-season training as well as running the risk of getting injured.
He doesn't need the extra money either he is already earning plenty.
It would be a kick in the teeth to the club and completely disrespectful.
Playing for the tigers isn't what you do on the side, I want players who playing for us means everything to.

I'm sure Benji will make the right decision and stay away from union.

I can tell you for a "FACT" that as ofg about 4-6 weeks ago rumors about Benji exploring options to go to the dragons was 100% "CORRECT" my source was "GERARD BEALE" at a funeral we mutually went to."FACT".Benji thinks sheens was the be all and end all.FACT.

Yes because Beale is likely to be involved in such high level discussions. More likely he was taking you for a ride.

Not when Gerard Beale has been a family friend since he was born.Ive met the guy over one thousand times in my life and he is a great guy.He was told by benji direct. You can take that to the bank.I love how you come on here making such statements not knowing me or my sources from a bar of soap. Its not negative clowns like you Im trying to feed news to its the 99% on this forum who care about the wests tigers not ones posting with a bad case of "SMALL MANS DISEASE".

It's a disease now is it?

Dude I don't think I have ever commented on anything you have posted here. Ever. Your defensive reaction to my comment is perplexing and suggests an insecurity consistent with small man syndrome.

I don't doubt Beale told you this. He may even believe it. But my experience is that players are VERY RARELY told anything about player negotiations until they are sealed, signed and delivered. Given Beale hadn't even started training with the Dragons at the time. I find this even more doubtful.

Either you're 100% committed to this club, or you can take off.

Why should he get to earn quick coin in Japanese Rugby while his teammates are flogging themselves to death in pre-season?

I don,t have a problem with players seeking other avenues to earn, if Marshall wants to put his body to basically 12 months of contact good luck to him. A massive insurance policy by the union club concerned , major financial renumeration personally if injured and can not full fill NRL contract. Personally I don,t understand why you would bother for the few extra bucks and risk your main earning stream and put in jeopardy your media career, then again greed nows no boundary . I think the Tigers would consider this for next off season but as for now with new coach and the per season underway would find it impossible to let him go as they should. With the club now unshackled from Sheens and a new era beginning if Marshall is not happy just cut him free and he can play NRL IN 3 years time and enjoy all the sushi and sake he wants I,m also sure the 9 network will be impressed with that as well.

When you come on here and so confidently reply to my "factual" comments about this situation with benji/beale re dragons and sheens e.t.c with the statement I was "taken for a ride" when I am in possession of the truth and you are in possession of nothing but "guesswork" I think I know who is the "defensive one".I can tell you that it had nothing to do with the dragons and no beale hadnt started training with them yet,It was a conversation that I had with Gerard Beale and someone without naming names is veeeeeerry close to Benji Marshall who appears on the footy show and is a kiwi and is always at sixes and sevens."P.S VERY,VERY CLOSE TO BENJI.IN FACT OH YOU KNOW THE REST".Anyhow Keep posting and good times just dont be so kneejerk reactive next time.

Im happy for it to happen at least he will come back but the timeing is weird we just signed a new coach he needs all pre season with the new coach and now he wants to go rugby it might still no happen tho its up to the wests tigers to accept it.

You have to love all this coded BS.

I wish I knew a star footy player from whom I could get all the FACTS

It's an interesting debate… I don't have a problem with players earning money outside of RL. I think Danny Buderus should've taken legal action over his drama last week. The NRL doesn't own the players, and as long as they fulfill the commitments to their NRL Contracts, they should be free to seek other challenges or revenue streams.

I do however have a few questions about how this can be best secured. I would presume Benji gets X from the Tigers which is part remuneration For playing week to week, and part for representing the Club for marketing purposes. For this to continue, Benji could be able to 'play' in Japan, but at no stage could he represent the Japanes Club for any marketing/interview purposes. If this was achievable, I don't see what the problem is?

Either way, his NRL Contract would need to be renewed to allow such changes, and clauses would need to be inserted based on the event of injury from 'other' income sources etc...

Don't come back, what if we sign him on a 1 year deal then gets injured in Japan? Who is our backup for the season? I would rather let him fo if he wants to and sign someone that will be fit for the first game. Looks like 6\. Anasta 7\. Miller :frowning:

He's getting married in January, I don't think a stint in Japan will be happening any time soon. Read the article, Tauber even says that it's different to last time as he is contracted til 2015.

Was Benji happy with his and the team's performance for 2012? How does he expect to improve for 2013? By not training with the team (and a new halfback pairing)? By wearing himself out before the season even starts playing for another team??

Pffffftttt!! What a ridiculous notion!

And if (I know, it's a big if) this ever did actually happen, I never want to hear again about players whinging about too many games in the season.

Heaps of marquee players come back to training late - because they are veterans and have earned it.
There aren't too many players who could actually earn this quick coin. Banjo is a rare talent and there is no way I would cut him just because of this. Imagine if the roosters then picked him up in that case…..that would be a nightmare.
It's not ideal but Banjo is worth sticking your neck out for, and he should earn the coin if he can- his footy career is only so long....

Marquee players come back to training late because they've usually been playing international matches. It's one thing to come back to training a couple of weeks after the others because you've been playing all through October, it's another to miss the whole pre-season, especially when there's a new coach and likely to be a few changes to be made.

In any case, we're all probably jumping the gun a little here.

Obviously a quite time in the papers, and every little bit of "news" - even bombshell as I heard one radio station claim this morning - helps. Not withstanding the gratitude I have for BM, and far for me to turn this into a BM-bashaton, he is old enough to stand on his own two feet and either make a stand against his manager and claim it is all BS or take a cab for the international airport. Either way, if I am WT management, I'd start to seriously question if BM wants to be there anyway, and, further, as a team mate, might even wonder during the season if his commitment will be there. More action of the field and less talk from BM wouldn't go astray either. As it has been stated many times before no player is bigger than the game (or the WT, more importantly).

If Benji wants to do this, if I was in Humphreys position this is what i'd do.

If released, any future contracts with the Wests Tigers would be reduced proportional to the amount of time in the year he is away from WT, then the remaining amount would be incentive based to protect WT from Benji injuries paid on a games played basis.

As I see it WT do not owe Benji, Benji owes WT for sticking by him after the multitude of injuries early in his career.
