Ben Elias warns critics of Wests Tigers five-eighth Mitch Moses the laughs will be on them

Little confused here GCT…in this weeks team thread you posted that Reserve Graders often play better in FG cause they are playing with better players when given the chance.....Now Moses who has proved he can play well in that grade last year needs to go back...?

Yes some players do lift when they go up to first grade , being around better players can sometimes bring out more than anyone has seen in them before.
But that's not some unwritten law, and sometimes they don't .

Just as some players who go up after starring in Reserves, in some cases never get to the same level in first grade . That's not new either
I've never said that Moses should go back because of lack of talent, rather than to get more time playing against men without the pressure of first grade.
Also to bring him up in selected games , as a lot of clubs have done with rookie young kids
And to allow time for his body to develop and to get a bit bigger .

The first statement was about Drinkwater , who was one of our better players in the trials. ( and yes I'm aware trials aren't real games)
And the fact that I'm surprised that he hasn't been tried at least in one game.
Both of these kids are being asked to do what very few rookie players could do. As I said before , I'm not blaming them for last week or any day, I just want them both to succeed, and I'm not alone in thinking that the club is asking a hell of a lot from these kids

Yes. They didnt create the "hype" -( dislike that term immensely) - yet because of it, they are copping criticism for not meeting the unrealistic expectations that comes with it. Two gutsy young men, high achievers who have worked hard at their craft, and who hopefully will find strength through adversity and achieve their goals. Time will tell.

The kid was so dominant all the way through that it has created so much excitement and expectations which also brings pressure.
I can't recall anyone that was as strong coming through juniors being anything less than a very good first grader.

I hope Moses doesn't live under the same rock Ben Elias seems to be under. No Wests Tigers supporter is interested in anything you have to say Benny.
If you want to talk about Balmain knock yourself out but don't get involved in Wests Tigers business you are a despised man who should take the hint and retire your big mouth.

I wish "back door " Benny would lock the door and throw away the key…. No one cares what he thinks

I am sure that we will see a much better footballer when Moses is finally allowed to play his natural style without all the constraints and pressure being placed upon him.

From what I can gather,Brooks and Moses were always going to be our halves, but because of circumstances, such as the horrendous injury toll,Benji leaving and the placing of the Independant board, they have both ended up in FG together at the same time..Maybe slightly premature for Moses, but Brooks was heading in there this year full time….

All kinds of difficulties change plans and I don't think this is any different....Moses is probably there now a year earlier than anticipated, but rather than try and find or afford a star playmaker we have gone with our earlier selection...

I will take a step back this year and not critise the halves for poor games and let them hone their skills together, good and bad days are all in the development of these two....2016 they should be in a much better stage of their careers and then expectation will be higher..

Oh just rack off Benny… You're irrelevant to WT and you screwed the club that gave you everything.

Nick off to Perth and don't come back.

He should probably stay out of as much as possible considering how things have panned out, but surely he is allowed to speak out about family?

He still has a pretty good resume as a Rugby League Player!

GCT I am just saying it is very unusual for players to come out of the 20's straight into first grade and be standouts. This is particularly so in the case of Moses who is surrounded by inexperienced players.

I am not sure how good he is going to be but I am prepared to give him at least this year and probably next before I start criticizing him mercilessly like some on here.

I still don't see much if anything to really have a go at him about. He hasn't been flash, he has a poor pass in him, he gets steam rolled when he is isolated close to the line but I can't really knock that as you expect that. These seem like pretty trivial issues to me though considering how young he is and how the team has been playing.

I just think he needs some more time. Tedesco looked at a pretty similar level when he came into grade from what I can see. Teddy didn't make many errors but he wasn't really flash.

After watching the game last Friday, what i saw from Moses was a player who knows he's under pressure (rightly or wrongly) and is trying soooo hard to make it go away. But It just isn't happening ATM. For one reason or the other he just can't have that breakout game.

I think he just needs that one very good game (like the bulldogs 2014 game) and then he can build off that.

It will come sooner or later and when it does I suspect a lot of people will have egg on their face.

A lot of people who are critical of him are still think he can develop into a quality player. For me i think on what he has shown he would be better off at fullback at NRL level.

He is very similar in style to Moylan, his best and only decent game at NRl level was at fullback also.

Playing 5/8 and struggling like he is after we let Blake Austin go he is fair game for criticism.

Very very few people are saying he is hopeless.

He looked the goods last yr, maybe its cos he was playing fb, idk. But he hasn't done much of anything so far this yr, and it seems the only thing people can compliment on him is his defense. Brooks and Tedesco run the attack.

Definitely been quiet this year in attack. The next 10 weeks will be interesting as we watch the kids grow.

I was at World Square in the city and walked into the newsagency and saw Sterlo ( I think triple M is in there or something because ive seen Matty Johns in there before as well) I said "hi" and what he thought of Moses and he said he was a good player and bright future. But it was only a brief chat, interesting hearing his thoughts though.

I'm rather surprised a harmless article such as this has generated 5 pages of posts. I'm not too fussed about Moses performance so far. He could certainly be playing better but I'm not convinced he has taken a liking to Taylor's structure so far. Brooks appears to be the more structured of the two from what I've seen. I think we'll see Moses develop more in the second half of the season.
