The idea isn't that ET plays an edge the whole 80.
Matulino and Packer are good at controlling the ruck in the first rotation. When they sub Twal subs as well and ET moves to lock with Marsters coming in on the edge. McIlwrick also comes on during that period to help bolster the defence up the middle.
ET taking on a lighter load during the 30 odd minutes that Marsters is on should help him last the 80 without being busted at the end.

Verbally agreed to a 2 year deal and just has to sign on the line now.

Geez mate, you said it would be announced by the end of last week. What's going on?

I'll watch more closely but to me Matulino and Packer are hitters rather than controllers of the ruck that job normally falls to Mannering and De Bellin in their respective teams..I would also like their minutes to increase on what they currently do…Taylor also does an enormous amount of clean up work currently but hopefully that changes next year with personel changes...We are still light on for a worker Prop...Twal seems to have that ability but it's a huge ask for a Rookie in what will be his debut season week to week in the NRL..
@ said:We don't need any more workers. We need some players that are going to have an impact. I'm not sure that there are any out there at the moment.

Matulino does a lot of work on the ground (watch his second stint from last weekend) and Packer just tends to physically dominate in tackles which slows the ruck in itself. They're both at about 50 minutes over recent weeks and we shouldn't really require much more from them. The Titans are wasting Ryan James for example by playing him 60 or 70 minutes, it's destroyed his effectiveness in attack. Packer and Matulino are also late 20's on contracts running a couple of years so we don't really want to risk injury by stretching them out to long minutes as part of the ordinary gameplan.
If Twal were trying to fill the defensive role that ET performs this season I would agree that he'd have no chance, but I think he'll have an easier time of things playing alongside Matulino and Packer. He will just need to go out and do what he does - get involved in plenty of tackles and take plenty of hit ups.
Assuming that you want ET at lock and Matulino and Packer playing big minutes - why do you think we would need a worker prop?
@ said:Woods normally plays about 30-35 minutes in his opening stint, which allows the team rotate props more infrequently. Without him next year we're going to have to carry at least 2 genuine props on the bench because I don't see either Mats or Packer doing that.

Time for an 80 minute hooker to free up a bench spot?
