Benji can't find a halves partner

Here is the first of what I hope is a big dump on Sheens,it makes us the laughing stock of the league.
And just for Hellman and others, the stats show Miller has started 2 games in 2 years, both as a late replacement,so to say he has had more chances than Sirro is ridiculious,Sirro 6 games and 5 starting this year.
Sheens needs to be exposed for his inept team selections, lets hope this gathers momentum and forces Humphreys hand. 😛ray:
I can't find the table that was listed with the article in the paper with a detailed list of the number of halves partners since the 2003 season when Benji started
http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/nrl/wests-tigers-star-benji-marshall-set-to-be-paired-with-eighth-halves-partner-this-season/story-e6frexnr-1226440667905
AWAY from rugby league, Benji Marshall is a model of fidelity as he prepares to marry beloved fiance Zoe Balbi in December.
But it's a much different story on the field.

Thanks to a combination of injuries, failed experiments and Robert Lui's sacking; Marshall has become the NRL's most promiscuous halves partner.

This weekend, the Tigers ace will be paired with his eighth this season - second-rower Liam Fulton.

That's a new partner every 2 1/2 weeks - a strike rate RSVP dating gurus can only fantasise about.

Over the previous 19 matches, Marshall has been unsuccessfully matched with Tim Moltzen, Jacob Miller, Curtis Sironen, Tom Humble, Blake Ayshford, Chris Lawrence and Robbie Farah.

There have also been eight others since his debut for a total of 31 changes at the scrum base in nine seasons.

Given this crazy carousel, it's little wonder Marshall was disorientated in last Sunday's heavy loss to Souths.

"It's not been easy," Marshall said yesterday. "It's very hard to build combinations when you change a few times.

"But at the same time I've not been happy with my season on a personal level.

"There's no point looking at who you are playing with when you have to look at yourself in the mirror."

But if Tigers fans reflect on Marshall's journey - notwithstanding serious injury - it's obvious his most sustained blasts of brilliance are bank-rolled by stability.

Scott Prince holds the record of most consecutive games alongside Marshall, with the pair sticking together 26 times in 2005.

That was also the same season Wests recorded their fairytale premiership win, which catapulted Marshall to hero status.

He then had to wait five seasons before the Prince streak was even threatened.

Alongside Lui in 2010 and 2011, Marshall rediscovered his best form and Wests broke a bewildering finals drought that extended way back to that grand final.

But Lui's sacking last November has now proven a doomsday omen for Tigers coach Tim Sheens, who hasn't been able to find a candidate nearly suitable enough.

Moltzen spent the off-season preparing to play alongside his ex-flatmate, but James Tedesco's opening-round injury and indifferent form forced him to revert to fullback within a month.

The replacements have been changed with the frequency of bed linen since.

Rookie Sironen looked the most promising option because his youth encouraged Marshall to play with more structure and discipline.

But with the 18-year-old also absent through injury, Marshall was his own worst critic as Wests slipped to 10th and into must-win territory.

Farah's rough recovery from the physical and personal toll of Origin has placed even more onus on Marshall to create attacking opportunities.

"I'm probably trying too hard and that's been a problem in the past," he said.

"I've gone back to the drawing board this week and put all the fancy stuff away.

"As much as I've turned into a halfback now, the old five-eighth in me wants to come out every now and then.

"We were losing by 30 points (against Souths) and still trying to score tries from everywhere.

"That's not my game."

While Marshall analyses his performance, funnyman Fulton is relatively carefree.

"I don't know what to expect - I guess I'll have to get to know the game plan a little more," Fulton joked. "But I do know I'm definitely his best-looking halves partner yet."

It seems to be black and white- find marshall a suitable stable halves partner and we do well. If we stuff around with dud options we lose.

Absolute joke.

But as for the club waking up, no chance. Sheens will be here for another two years at least. He signed a three year deal last year and they won't sack him. In fact, he's probably due for another new contract soon…

Please don't even joke about that.
If I knew how to get the scanned table of halves since 2003 uploaded to this thread from my computer I would,I just keep geeting file cannot be uploaded message everytime I try.

This is the Number One biggest problem with our team… We have tried for 6 years since the departure of Scott Prince to find a partner for Benji which has failed most of the time.

A smart operator would realise there isnt any suitable option, as Benji isnt a typical style player and is too eratic. Time for someone at this club to make the tough decisions and either move Marshall to Fullback and buy 2 halves to guide this team around the park, or get rid of Marshall.

He isnt a 'great player', he has always been an 'exciting player' and that is where it ends...

Move or bye bye!!!

You don't think Benji at 6 with a structured traditional half like Robson,Cronk,Pearce,Reynolds or the like wouldn't work, geez I would love to give it a try, instead of all this other crap Sheens pulls on,imagine not having to worry every tuesday as Benji would be 6 and a regular 7 would be 7.
I think we would be a whole different team within a few weeks when the combo's started working.

The best halfback this team never and twice had the opportunity to snare him was Brett Kimmorely.

Amazing kicking game and good forwards organiser. We don't need anything else from a 7.

No… Your talking about Structure, and unfortunately Benji cant play within a structure as he is too enigmatic.

Time to give up on that dream and start making business style decisions to make the Tigers a premiership force!

Your desire to punt Sheens isnt unheard from me, but dont let it cloud your judgement of some of our Senior Players who are just as responsible for what is being delivered on the paddock... They should be judged just as much as Sheens!

here's the facts.

Since 2003, Benji has been in 16 different halves combinations.

They are (in order of when each combination first occurred)

Daniel Fitzhenry (6)/Marshall (7) - 3 games
Marshall (6)/Scott Prince (7) - 35 games
Marshall (6)/Keiran kerr (7) - 1 game
Marshall (6)/John Morris (7) - 12 games
John Morris (6)/Marshall (7) - 17 games
Paul Whatuira (6)/Marshall (7) - 1 game
Marshall (6)/Matthew Head (7) - 7 games
Marshall (6)/Robbie Farah (7) - 9 games
Blake Ayshford (6)/Marshall (7) - 6 games
Marshall (6)/Tim Moltzen (7) - 14 games
Marshall (6)/Robert Lui (7) - 41 games
Marshall (6)/Blake Lazarus (7) - 2 games
Chris Lawrence (6)/Marshall (7) - 5 games
Marshall (6)/Jacob Miller (7) - 2 games
Marshall (6)/Tom Humble (7) - 4 games
Curtis Sironen (6)/Marshall (7) - 5 games
Liam Fulton (6)/Marshall (7) - *debut this Round

I think Watto might be right We will never be able to find a halfback that complement both Farah and Marshall now unless we are prepared to build one from scratch No established 7 would do it

It was different in 2005 Robbie did not have a dominant role as he does now

So then it comes down to who you want to keep and is more important to the side Farah or Marshall

Farah wins that hands down imo

The amount of halves pairing is a worry & shouldve been rectified seasons ago
but i might get crucified here but i believe Marshall 7 Sirro 6 is the way forward
The game Marshall played against the raiders this year was his best performance since probably the sharks game in 05
& he wore the 7.Consistency is his problem as soon as rectifies that i think he will make it as a premier 1/2back

I think Watto you hit the nail on the head. When he had blistering speed, twinkle toes and a few trick passes in his kit bag he was a excitement machine. Now the kit bag is nearly empty, he is not a Fitler or a Johns or a Lockyer, okay he can still pull a trick or two out of the bag but he cant control or direct a team around the field. Granted if we had a pack that ripped and teared and went forward his life would be easier. He reminds me a little of Larry Corowa, at the peak of his powers he was unstoppable but when he lost his speed he had nothing else

We've not "tried" to find anyone to compliment Benji, otherwise we would have picked up another half who had a decent kicking and passing game like Jeff Robson or Luke Walsh.

There has been no effort whatsoever (apart from Lui, who was another five eighth anyway,) from Sheens to find a bona fide half who could provide the basic kicking game and level headed approach that the WT desperately lacks.

Watto I've been say this about Benji and sheens for a while now to my friends, they thought I was talking rubbish. They support other teams. Good to know someone thinks alike. I'm truly over all this crap they both dish up.

You guys bagging Benji are kidding yourselves. Where was this talk last season or the season before that? Buy a decent halfback and the old Benji will find his mojo. Too much pressure on 2 players in our side. Farah and Marshall. Farah on one hand is trying to lead by example, but Benji is trying to win games on his own. Without a decent 1 or 7 we are going to struggle. 7 players out last Sunday and I got what I expected. Take 7 players out of ANY team in the comp and see how they go.

14 attempts since Scott Prince tells me we have tried to find a suitable option… The biggest hurdle in this scenario is probably our ability to attract any decent halfback. Do you think any Halfback who has the goods is gona want to come and play in the Farah & Marshall Show and have no real input???

I still think Benji is a good 6, but its our inability to attract someone which concerns me the most. How many more years are you prepared to wait???

How many players did they have out round 2 through 5 ??????????They have been abysmal all year

Good to see the dysfunction thats been evident for years being highlighted…..I wish for a back
page with Sheens %'s in big bold block letters....not that it'd do anything, nothing sticks to teflon
