Benji link and a $2m payday help lure Kiwi Blair to Tigers

If I am reading the published article correctly, did it not say …."**Adam Blair on a four-year deal believed to be worth up to $2 million"**? How many people would know what the contract really says about pay?
Isn't it amazing that this Forum has many posters screaming from the heavens for the Club to sign some established, experienced stars. When the Club signs one of these stars, there are many posters making negative comments about the signing, without waiting to see how the signing works out. Remember, all the negative comments about the signing of Gareth Ellis.
If the Club now signs up the best of the young, upcoming stars fron their NYC team, what more could they do?

Actually it's 300k from CLUB sponsors. A player can get paid anything from anyone as long as they aren't affiliated with the wests tigers club. Like Nathan cayless from parramatta. He used to "work" at a real estate company 1 day a week and was paid 150k a tear off this company.

and the average payment is around 40k

no i don't remember.
he was said to be coming here for the challenge, not the money, which led to excitement.
i only remember one poster that dogged the signing and his play here at the tigers.
something about a pillow.

1 Does anyone know if this info is on the mark ??
2 I thought the maximum one player could get in 3rd party deals was $150 k ??

Is this the tonic our 2011 season needed also ??

Not overly keen on Reddy , but didn't he come to grade as a fullback at Parra ??

If it is true about Reddy ,lets hope his signing is as good as the last fullback we got from Parramatta

i think journos are using the 500k figure that his manager supposedly was throwing around when it was clear the storm would not be in the ball park.

as for maximum.
before they raised it to 300k the marquee player allowance was also capped at 50k per player and 150k per club(might be where you are getting the 150k figure).300k per team for 3rd party sponsor and unlimited personal sponsorship.
i don't see anywhere that states there is a individual cap on the marquee allowance apart from the 300k team cap.

Cant understand how Blair will end up with 50% or so more than Ellis.
No wonder theres unrest in the camp,& no suprise Ellis wants to go home.

No one holds a gun to their heads and makes them sign a contract.

There has also been speculation linking the Tigers with the Canberra fullback Josh Dugan, but chief executive Stephen Humphreys this week emailed the Raiders to reassure them that his club is not plotting a play for the NSW Origin star.

I'm sure the Raiders can rest easy with that reassurance from Mr Humphreys, given his recent track record….

we shouldnt be spending $500,000 on him to play anywhere. hopefully its only $300,000 from the salary cap and $200,000 is from a 3rd party

I hope he signs but I think he should be on less than Benji and Ellis.

I hope the 500k figure is simply made up.

And Lawrence , but he will be on as much as Benji . That's what happens when you buy the best forward in the market place . You have to pay big bucks

If Heighington is indeed, not leaving the club, then I suspect Blair will play prop alongside Galloway. Hows the pack looking next year now??

13\. Heighington
12\. Ellis
11\. Dwyer
10\. Galloway
9\. Farah
8\. Blair

could be the best forward pack in the NRL.

As for Reddy, again, if Heighington is staying, I doubt Ayshford is moving into the forwards. that means Reddy is signed to play on the wing (Lote, Utai, Brown & Ryan until confirmed otherwise), Centre (Ayshford, Lawrence, Simona) or Fullback (Maybe Brown..maybe Ryan..).

Fullback seems the obvious move, but I keep thinking back to Sheens' "you have to get the ball in the hands of your best players- you need 1, 6, 7 & 9 to be your best players etc" schtick.

Name the best 4 ball playing players at the Tigers who are not 'hit up guys'.

Benji, Farah, Lui &…..

In my opinion- Lawrence.

Lawrence to fullback puts the ball in his hands a bunch more times than it is out in the Centres (where Reddy can play), and gives the Tigers a very dangerous running option from the back.

Didn't he play Australian Schoolboys at Fullback?

Great signing, you have to pay what the market demands and the market rates Blair. Its pretty simple stuff. We all wanted a marque signing, we get one and half the punters are upset. Gibbs and Fafita are good average FGraders, Blair is a Top notch player

Chadman's Don't be surprised if Reddy plays fullback imo If Ryan or Brown are the option for fullback next year ,why isn't Sheens playing them there now ?? Unless we have another signing to come …..

Adam Blair is GUN.
He'll strengthen up our cookie dough pack for sure.
Who cares about the dudes that dropped, I know I've lost interest.
2012 will be good !

Someone a while ago was fairly confident Lote was going to be moving to the 1…

Blair is a fantastic signing and the dollars are irrelevant as long as the accountants manage to justify it under the cap. Put him in prop where I think he's played some of his best football and where we really need a good hard running tough guy. He'll also be great for the young props we have coming through.

& with Heigho supposedly staying this is an all round great result! (IF true....)

Hardly surprising noone else wants to actually pay real money for Ryan though.

True, but when your told "thats all there is/we can afford"blah blah,& on good faith you sign accordingly to stay part of the "team",its a little galling when miraculously $500k pa is found for a clearly inferior player.
And funding that $500k is the dismissal of a large chunk of the "team" u wanted to be part of.
Throw in a homesick wife,& hey presto…my work is done here!

This is not a Thread about the Salary Cap and the various clauses and loop holes.

Stay on Thread guys.

Ps - Im very happy that the first positive piece of the puzzle is revealed. Cant wait for the others to be announced…

Why arent we happy is a very gud player big strong and u know the way he leads always hard and stragiht and will make the younger stars follow his steps and future caption for tigers 😀 more signings to come

Good news. A quality, big hitting prop will serve us well, particularly one that has been signed over a longer period. He will be inspiring for any younger forwards coming through.
