All i know is that Mayer plans to meet with Benji and Tauber early this week. Anything else that gets said is all speculation. We've had Benji to the Warriors, Blues, Wharatahs, France, Japan, Broncos. Heck, he can replace Ed Cowan at number 3 in the ashes. In others words…..i'll wait till its official.

Hopefully if we are mad enough to give Benji another extra year we are only paying him what he is worth on his current form which would be less than 300k a year. Lets not kid ourselves he will never get back to his best he has been crap for almost 2 years. No other top club would pay him anywhere near what he wants. He is lucky we are run by a bunch of muppets if he gets another year at big money.

Expect Benji Marshall to inform the Wests Tigers of a decision on his future tonight. It could be all over. Stay tuned

On twitter Glenn Jackson from smh is reporting that Benji will seek a release from last 2 years of contract

Agree ink, about the cambo stuff. Very disappointing, it's such a large and growing area and I simply don't understand why we can't tap into it better. Know lot's of people living in cambo for a while who are simply NOT tigers supporters. You'd struggle to find that in Balmain. I've never lived in cambo so I'm not sure what the issue is or how to solve it but the club needs to make an obvious effort to rectify it.

That signing before a cambeltown game in macarthur square was a nice start, but nothing since then.

the difference is that the Balmain area has had a team to support for over 100 years - there is a culture that if you are born or live in the area you are a tiger supporter. Campbelltown is different - no team to support until a struggling magpie outfit moved there - there was no previous culture - the magpies were building that culture until times changed - WT have failed to build on that culture and have alienated a lot of people in the area - the other problem is that a lot of people move to the area from other parts of the city and continue to follow the side they previously followed - i would think that would be true of people form Balmain moving to the northern beaches - they wouldn't start following Manly ( at least i hope they wouldn't ) - WT need to recognise and promote the area as theirs and start building a long term presence and culture.

Thing is, the Joint Venture shouldn't be about those moving into the district with existing allegiances, or old farts like me who struggle to embrace the outer west region, or the likes of the serial sook who started this ridiculousness (In a thread about Marshall for goodness sake).

The club needs to take the same attitude that the AFL take with their expansion clubs and look at it as a long term proposition.

They need to be winning the hearts and minds of the kids in both regions under the Wests Tigers banner, not pandering to those of us who remember the foundation clubs.

Only then, does the club move forward as one. Whether they are doing enough? What the locals tend to say suggests not. They need to find a way to get the club profitable enough the Campbelltown gets half the home games quick smart.

now pay brooks and moses 300k a year (each) for the next 4 years.

They are yet to even debut and you want 300k contracts given to them for 4 years. I hope you don't have one negative post on Adam Blair.

for the potential they have shown, its a bargain. we were originally going to have marshall on 700k a season till 2017..

so in that same period of time, we get 2 x players… only one needs to come through.. and we still save $100k a season (probably more)..

This is professional rugby league. Not the share market. You don't give a player who is yet to debut 400k a season for 4 years.
Just ask the Sharks about Filiga. The 200k a season player who never played first grade. The next SBW.

Don't necessarily agree with MTD but Doggies were paying Klemmer 350k a year before he debuted.

The Dogs were forced to pay Klemmer that. If it came to if, then maybe make the tough decision. But don't just react because Benji is leaving and there is panic.

:roll you are a raving lunatic. You want to dedicate 2.4million to two blokes who may not make it? How about we see if they can handle first grade before we shower them in gold?

as i said before…

offering them that money locks them into us...

it also pays for 2 players rather than the 1 of benji marshall... much better...

but for the record i am a lunatic.

Crazy idea to pay $600,000 for two players who have never stepped onto a first grade field. Particulary when both players have suffered a run of injuries over the past 2 years.
