Benji Marshall involved in late-night incident

I wonder if the accuser will follow through with this? His details will become public domain and assuming he did make racial taunts towards Benji, then he and his family are going to have some fallout from this.

I'm more worried about Gallops reactionary penalty than the charges against Benji.

I went to my first ruby league game in 1979 when I was 7, if the NRL give Benji as much as 1 week suspension over this I am through with the game.

When some drunk idiot can bait our players and get away with it, well it says a lot about our society. Bring back stronger discipline in the schools and a return to the old 6 foot rule for Police officers would be good as well.

The NRL should say why they don't condone physical violence that their players should not be racially abused in public. They should support Benji 100%.

Benji should lay civil charges for discrimination and defamation of character. The Daily Telegraph article implied that he was drunk, if this is wrong (and from what I have heard he wasn't) Benji could make a compliant to the Australian Press Council to take action against the Daily Telegraph.

i know i may be wrong here but, for marshall to respond i reckon something else was said, the first time i reckon they went on saying s*** such as black c*** and go back to NZ etc, but when they realized that wasn't working i reckon one of em said something about his GF which lead to the response, i may be wrong but that's my prediction.

Just heard them say on a ch. 10 newsbreak that the future football career of Benji Marshall is in doubt. :wtf

Are they for real? What gives them the right to say such rubbish?

yeah they are full of sensationalist dribble. ch. 7 newsbreak had mark ferguson stating that benji marshall charged with assault after late night "brawl"

Where the hell did they get BRAWL from???

if you just happened to be watching tv at that particular time , and knew nothing of the incident other than what the newsbreaks had just reported, you would assume he had bashed the crap out of someone.

Can not wait to see what journalistic brilliance the telegraph has in store tomorrow.

Does anyone remember the telegraphs headline after the laffranchi incident broke?
something along the lines of TIGERS GANG RAPE from memory. it wasnt until a little later that everyone realised how bloody far off the headline was, they werent even close, but i dont remember ever seeing an apology to wests tigers for that headline.

i'll hope for some factual reporting , but wont hold my breath.

If the racial taunts are true (and who knows the full extent of them) then Benji does not deserve a police record…regardless of the cost of the fine. Fight it so that d/heads realise they can't get their one minute of fame baiting footy players (or anyone else).
I also would like to see the complainent come to the Bulldogs game with a t-shirt saying "It's me!"

The whole thing will be thrown out in my opinion. Marshall will say he hit him, witnesses will give their reports, douche bag will be shot to pieces in court, benji will be given a don't do it again or there will be greater consequences.
I really think there are better things for our courts to be doing than dealing with this rubbish.
Career in the balance? Hardly. If carney and watmough have a thousand lifelines I'm sure benji can have another one.

Police will allege the victim said to Marshall outside the McDonald's restaurant: "Hey Benji, Lockyer's better than you", and then repeated the same sledge two more times.

He was then allegedly hit in the mouth by Marshall and suffered a split lip, before a second man who appeared to be with Marshall stepped in and hit him on the cheek.

**Police do not believe the attack was racially motivated – despite Marshall's manager Martin Tauber claiming his client was called a "black c . . .".**
The victim is Australian-born but of Middle Eastern background and insisted he had not made racist slurs.

CCTV captured part of the incident but not all of it.

I was just talking to my dad about this (we can't help him he is a Broncos supporter ) but he said something that made me think . Maybe seeing we have had issues with previous "faces of league" that the pressure involved with being the "face of league ' is too much for the players too handle and they can't deal with it . Made me think anyway what does any one else think ???( We are not making excuses just seems strange thats all )

Interesting what the so called "victim" says.

Umm, sorry, but you don't get punched in the face for saying that one player is better than another player!

Right now it's a case of 'he said' 'he said'. One of them was allegedly affected by alcohol and all reports suggest it wasn't Benji who was drinking that night. The CCTV footage only shows part of the incident and it would not have audio to the scenes either, so that could prove interesting as far as who said what.

People don't just start punching people for no reason unless they have some form of mental issue.

I'd say this Group of 10 Australian born middle eastern men have said something about his lady friend and he's lost his cool. Fair play in my book.

The only thing that is consistent with this story, is how much it changes piece by piece. Sensationalist journalism, speculation, innuendo, it's all here people. The only people who know the truth were the people there.

Apparently heaps on witnesses have come forward and made statements etc…so the truth should come out in court...

Even the idiots that are so called journalists at the Daily Telegraph would know that Benji would not hit a guy that said Lockyer is a better player.

The Daily Telegraph has the worst journalists in the world. I for one will be reading what the SMH says tomorrow.

Still think Benji will speak on the Footy Show on Thursday.

I think Benji is more likely to acknowledge at this stage of his career that Lockyer is a better player That will prbably change Benji I think is still yet to peak and will become a better player than Lockyer

There's normally 3 sides to every story Mrs T. We will just have to wait and see how this plays out. At the end of the day, it's a nothing incident in my mind… Looking forward to seeing Benji fire up next Monday!

Storm in a tea cup, tough guy runs to the police when someone stands up to him and shows off his cut lip. I would not be surprised if the Daily Telegraph put this idiot up to it to sell more papers. Grubby journos who just want to make a dollar out of scandal rather than wait for the games to start. Benji you did the right thing and good luck in round one.
