Benji Marshall involved in late-night incident

Further to this incident, it has just been reported on channel 9 National News by Danny Weidler that a woman has come forward making a complaint about Benji Marshall making inappropriate comments about a female on an aircraft flight from the Gold Coast to Sydney approximately one month ago.

The NRL and Wests Tigers are reportedly investigating the matter however Weidler stated that Marshall has told the Wests Tigers that he cannot remember making any comments about a female and denies that he displayed inappropriate behavior. The channel 9 newsreaders asked the question as to why this information has only reached the media now and Weidler's response was that the woman who made the complaint did not realise who Benji Marshall was until last weekend's incident.

Again, this information was broadcast by Danny Weidler on tonight's 6pm National News. Apparently the compaint has been emailed to various media outlets.

The whole thing is becoming a joke now. Someone else who wants to get a piece of the action and can sniff $$$$ for a telling story.

From the SMH:

Tigers fans rush to show their stripes after Benji's late-night incident
Brad Walter
March 11, 2011

WESTS TIGERS officials have attributed a membership surge this week to fans wanting to show their support for Benji Marshall.

After yesterday announcing a new jersey sponsorship with Hyundai, Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys said the assault charge against Marshall over an altercation in the inner city last Saturday morning had not been damaging to the club. ''From every perspective, we have only seen support,'' Humphreys said. ''With more than 300 fans either becoming new members or renewing, Monday was the busiest day of the Tigers' off-season membership drive.''

As a result, the club won the NRL's ''Battle of The West'' competition between the Tigers, Panthers and Eels after attracting 1011 new members over 10 days up to and including Monday.

''Monday was our biggest day, and it continued on Tuesday and Wednesday,'' Humphreys said. ''There are normally a lot of contributing factors to that, and I think part of that, according to the feedback we are getting from people, is that they really wanted to show their support to the club and to Benji.

''But we are seeing that in lots of different ways, too … the club has been inundated with emails and faxes and phone calls of support, and also from our corporate supporters.''

Humphreys said he had been concerned that the three-year deal with Hyundai might have been jeopardised by the negative publicity after Marshall was accused of punching a man outside McDonald's in George Street just hours after hosting a charity fund-raiser for Children's Cancer Institute Australia. But Humphreys said Hyundai was happy to be associated with the Tigers and Marshall.

''We obviously talked about it during the week, and they were very comfortable with the way it was being handled and the circumstances around it, and all of our other sponsors have been very supportive again of the club and of Benji as an individual,'' he said.

Absolutely agree what a joke and lack of professionalism by people just after a headline- disgraceful.

how about this lady complaining 1 month later..

i wonder if anyone has some complaints to make about something he said in high school?

next thing you know is that some-one will complain that that saw Benji use premium unleaded fuel in his car instead of being eco-friendly and using E10.

X2.

Who in the channel 9 news room even allows this crap to get to air. Channel 9 have the rights to the NRL they should not let such an unproven thing even get to air.

The NRL should be straight on the phone to the boss at 9 and putting a rocket up them (trust me such an unproven AFL story would never make the news).

A month later some lady says Benji said something wrong on a flight but no one else on the plane said anything. I don't know but this sounds like the biggest beat up of all time. Wieldler has hit a new low, I didn't think he could get any lower.
