Benji Marshall involved in late-night incident

Lets wait for the facts.

And its george/bridge street in Sydney CBD, on a FRIDAY NIGHT - it's as busy as hell at that time - the city truly never sleeps. If it was as bad as Benji assaulting somebody, I'd bet you a steak dinnet there would be video footage of this whether it be surveillance or mobile phone, and it would be on the net by now.
 
I am proud of this club due to the off-field behaviour of the players but if this alleged incident is worse than what it sounds ATM, not just in my eyes but the whole league fraternity will not forget it and it will remain alive in every person's minds.
 
I look forward to Phil Rothfield's hysterical response. Given the punishment he advocated for Todd, I expect ritual dismemberment will be suggested this time.

I'm guessing there will CCTV footage of the incident. From what I hear, there are dozens of witnesses.

Police want to speak with Benji Marshall following an alleged altercation in the Rocks in the early hours of this morning.
Marshall - the new face of NRL - is believed to have been at the scene of a physical altercation at 3am this morning.

Marshall, 26, spent last night hosting Children’s Cancer Institute Australia’s (CCIA) first annual Footy Rocks.

Police released a media statement confirming an incident involving a 26-year-old male.

Police attached to The Rocks Local Area Command are investigating an alleged assault outside a fast food restaurant in Sydney’s CBD overnight.

About 3.20am today (Saturday 5 March 2011), a verbal altercation allegedly occurred between a 24-year-old man and a 26-year-old man in George Street, near the intersection with Bridge Street.

The 26-year-old and another male allegedly assaulted the 24-year-old before leaving the area.

The 24-year-old sustained a small facial laceration and reported the alleged incident to The Rocks Police Station.

An investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident, and police are hoping to speak with a 26-year-old man who may be able to assist with inquiries.

There's more to this than what people think. I'm sure once Benji tells his side of the story nothing will come of it.
 
We should all just take a deep breath and let this play out. Unfortunately the media will no doubt go nuts. Hope they don't crucify Benji - unfortunately he's an easy target.
 
Is it any suprise that the paper who is in opposition of the paper Benji is contracted to make a big deal about this?

Yep agreed. From the sounds of the 9 report, there was a verbal altercation and then some time afterwards the bloke got a fat lip. The guy wasn't glassed, king hit, beaten up. He got a split lip for Christ's sake…

Fact of the matter is, a complaint was made so the police have to follow it up. From what I've heard thus far I'd be stunned if it went any further and the complainant will withdraw when he realises what a pork chop he's been.

I hope you are right. Sounds like only one side of the story has come out so far.

Small facial laceration? You get into a barney at McDonalds, talk your trap off, get a smack in the face and you go to the cops? Geez I hope his tutu didn't get dirty… Fair dinkum, where is this country headed for?

I'm not saying this is what happened but just trying to make a point on how things can be blown out of proportion. What if the guy was drunk and took a swing at Benji and he, in self defense, struck the guy? Before we start assuming and jumping to conclusion give Benji a chance to defend himself.

but let's not discount the fact that ANY negative press will be picked up by the media… and stick!
 
Aaah thnks Chris, I thought you knew somethng and I started relaxing there for a couple of seconds.
 
Sounds out of character and the way I read it its possible Marshall may have just been present at the incident.

Everyone seems to be missing the point he was initially at a kids charity function
