Benji Marshall v Fatty on the footy show

Cept he gets paid to write articles and be on that tv show and I doubt they'd be happy with a 20 word article or 30 second interview

Priorities are essential though.

Doing your main job and all that goes with it before your secondary commitments that only exist because of the first.

Which master does he serve?

I believe the great majority of the fan base is angry about the greater problem which Benji's performances in media over the last 12 months are merely a symptom of rather then just at Marshall

Yep!! and per Supercoach:
"I would have thought Benji would have given the media a wide berth for a month and in that time, work his butt off and find some long lost form.

Tallis deserved some credit for actually backing Potter. I would love to see Benji bounce back to some form and resign for life, but I just cant see that happening, all his priorities are wrong"

To me, this is something he really needs to stand back and take a good look at. Is he a gun player/commentator giving his valued insight into the game, or a commentator participating in the public observation and description of his own demise as a player? He may need to renegotiate some media contracts or suffer the ignominy of participating in the circus.

I'm a fan of Marshall and I hope he comes good very soon.

Beau and Fatty went down to Kiama to do the interview is what I heard.

If true that is a disgrace.

Time to stump up and prove his worth though. I can handle a thrashing if I know things are not going our way but everyone is putting in. No excuses to come home with a clean jumper tonight though lads

Gordon Tallis for assistant coach!!!Benji has to suck it up and play footy. Honestly it's sickening to watch constantly underperforming and over talking.

Why assistant coach not coach? He would put a stick up everyones arses.

Hahaha .. Thats GOLD ..
I Reckon we can do with a angry coach.. Will snap players out of the micro sleep they fall into when on field.
Potters halftime dressing room chat falls on deaf ears… Get angry Mr Potter..

Just watched it.

When he said "I put in my two best training sessions of the year in after it", why wasn't he grilled again? Why did he only train well after he was dropped?

"The coach made the decision and he has to live by it". In other words, you drop me, this is what you have to deal with and it's the wrong call.

His attitude is all wrong. He is not above the club but he seems to think being dropped to the bench is so astounding.

Its not just Benji's attitude Hybrid it is about 80% of the squads attitude and our defensive coaches attitude

Lets liven things up and sack Georgallis and Simmons as well and then tell the players if the d doesn't improve after that they are next

I would be telling every forward that if they can't hit a 90% tackle completion rate they are gone ,no matter who it is

rewrite all their KPI's and if they don't like it there's the door Stop playing barbie dolls with these girls and tell em to aim up or else

Give me a jersey for christ sake ,I would of killed and died to have played NRL and I'll show you how to put your body on the line :rant over

Step up or F off

Completely agree.

The whole coaching staff should be shown the door except for Potter and Payten.

You're right. Benji, along with a few others have spent way too much time in the comfort zone at Concord. Accountability is something the Wests Tigers as a team and club have arguably lacked. Take a look at the Storm, while they have a brilliant finals record, take a look at the years where they have not made the finals, and how they respond the following year, they're always back in the 8.

Hard decisions need to be made at Concord, it may well be a case that people are just too chummy with one another and have the whole "I'm here with my mates" mentality, not the "I'm here to win a comp and I'll do whatever it takes to achieve that" mentality clubs like Melbourne and Manly have, and which Souths are working towards.

You got dropped for 17 minutes, you didn't lose your dog, suck it up and get over yourself.

Agree

Benji, 1st world problem, get over it and stop acting like some spoilt brat

I disagree.. Someone like him will find it hard to avoid the Media spot light. 1000 people will ask him the same question " how did you feel being benched?" and he will have to answer otherwise he will inherit other labels from people.

He is not the one gathering the media and carrying on about how disappointed he is with Potter benching him.

No He doesn't have to answer the questions. when they call him and say "come and do this interview, the whole world needs to see you acting like a drama queen" he simply has to say, sorry im busy training for… football, the thing i used to play before i was a media [This word has been automatically removed] has-been.

he doesn't have to chase the spotlight, a simple - Sorry i'm concentrating on my game atm will do.

Doesn't surprise me really, the Footy Show is notorious for being a platform for current and former players to stroke their egos.

The saddest thing was instead of genuinely reflecting on the positives of the move (i.e. realising he has to work hard, he's not infallible and has to compete for his spot,) and what he got out of the move by Potter, he used the interview as a vehicle to harp on to all and sundry that he was hard done by. It's nothing short of a disgrace and only furthers the stereotype that he's a precious show pony who can't handle criticism. Interestingly enough, this could backfire for him now as he will be under the microscope tonight and another terrible performance may see his mates in the media turn on him.

Good on Tallis also for backing the coach, the media have gone into a massive circle jerk over Marshall and it was refreshing to hear someone call it the way it is.

I don't see how Benji, moonlighting with his extra job at Channel Nine, can justify an upgrade on his West Tigers contract. I know of many employers who would sack an employee if he took on an extra job. The main reason is because the employer doesn't want the employee to be distracted or physically/mentally fatigued to the extent that he cannot satisfactorily perform his main job.

Even if he is in the spotlight, he doesn't have to disrespect his coach, earlier in the week he said he believed he played better against souths when he finally got on, that he was always going to play that way, Potters actions had no impact. Last night he said Potter would have to live by his actions, implying that he made the wrong decision. The time has come for Benji to grow up.

This interview showed that Benji doesnt respect the decision made by his coach.

He said that the reason for it was that Potter wanted it to play out publicly that he was not happy with his form. Why did he have to say that????

He should man up and just say ' I have not been performing and I need to improve and that is why I was dropped '

@Hitup said:
lets hope he can produce for us and himself because not many other teams would want him on current form.

This is really where the whole situation is at isn't it. He needs to perform. He isn't really worth money for being Benji Marshall. He is worth money for how he performs.

And ???

Seriously - he doesn't have to like his coach. He doesn't have to talk to him. He just has to perform on the field. That is where it starts and ends.
