BENJI Marshall will leave St George Illawarra if another NRL club is prepared to pay his $350,000 plus asking price.

The Sunday Telegraph can reveal Marshall has received interest from three NRL clubs, understood to be the Wests Tigers, Parramatta and Penrith.

However, the veteran playmaker is yet to receive a formal offer due to the uncertainty around the futures of players like Corey Norman and Tigers young guns Mitchell Moses and Luke Brooks.

This leaves Marshall facing a contract jigsaw puzzle in the coming months to determine his future.

The former New Zealand international believes he has another two to three years left in the game and he wants to finish his career in the NRL.

While Marshall’s original $300,000 offer was reportedly taken off the table by the Dragons, he still remains in dialogue with the club about his future beyond this season.

Director of Rugby League Pathways Ian Millward said Marshall was yet to indicate any desire to move on and was concentrating on his comeback from a hamstring injury against the Warriors in New Zealand on Sunday.

“No, he (Benji) has never had conversations with us about that (leaving),” Millward said.

“But anyone who is off-contract is entitled to test the market and see what his best value his.

“Our focus is just getting him back on the field so he plays to the best of his ability and then I’m sure we’ll have a chat.”

It's probably the nostalgia talking, but i'd really like to see him come home to finish his career. Not to play in the halves though, he has nothing to offer there anymore. You need to think outside the box with him, he could offer something in the centres, or maybe even at lock. God knows he's big enough.

The club wouldn't be thinking like that though sadly.

Just the thought of him in a Tigers Jersey has me dry retching … No More Plodders , hacks or yesterday's heros .

simple solution. Play him somewhere he doesn't need to be a ball distributor.

Why would you sign a half if you didn't trust him as a playmaker? He's either still up to the gig or he isn't.

Because as i said in the post before, you wouldn't sign him as a half, but as a centre or even a lock. But the club wouldn't see him as anything else but a half.
 
Benji has gained so many admirers over the years who would be saddened if he continued playing well past his prime.
 
If I genuinely thought that Benji Marshall could be found a valuable role here I'd be happy to see him considered. I just can't think of one. Otherwise I agree with Newtowns observation.
 
Please! Didn't we suffer enough for several seasons with his weekly claims of finding out what he was doing wrong and how he was going to improve next week. The first of those weeks never happened.
 
Turning back the clock seldom works, in recent years players like Anasta and Glen Stewart come to mind. We are a club that is not strong enough to have a ageing playmaker on our books. Also as father time marches on so does the likelihood of injuries.

Sure offer him a role in marketing within the club, but not as a player. Even if both Brooks and Moses decided to jump ship I would think long and hard before bringing Benji back

I think you'd get a slow centre who wouldn't take on the line or a lock who wouldn't tackle. I wouldn't completely write off using Benji if we needed a half though, but he's no one's first choice these days unfortunately.
 
This would be the dopiest decision made by the Club.
He had a sook last time around…..he was playing like a $400,000 a Season player but wanted to get paid a Million per Season.

Haven't they learnt with the Farah fiasco?

The only circumstance I'd bring him back is if? Moses left the Club and Brooks stayed. Benji would have to be happy getting $150,000 - $200,000 a Season for 1 or 2 years and just give a bit of guidance to Brooks game.
The injuries are catching up to him anyway and he wouldn't except that money i suggested so the reality is I'd pass on the thought.
 
Benji was always unpredictable, I'll never forget that flick pass in the 2005 GF, that unpredictability is no longer required, even if he is still capable.
 
If after an ageing playmaker, I would take Peter Wallace first. Cody Walker & Sam Williams would be better options though
