Benji

Deffinately wouldn't swap him for anyone. His a major reason why this club is successful both on and off the field. The bonehead plays don't happen as often.

Worlds best footballer?
He is not even in the top 5 at the Tiges as far as im concerned.
Would be happy if he went elsewhere as he is not a team player.
Costs more points in a season than he scores.
cheers

Is that you Ron?

Benji has committed to the Tigers for life. He is bar none the most exciting player in the NRL when he is on song. He has had some shockers this year alongside Farah and they have still managed to steer the team into currently equal second. He is a champion both on and off the field and despite his patchy form at times, he is still worth his weight in gold.

Who would you trade him for? Robson? Mortimer? Rovelli? Barrett?

He hasn't had a great season and I was expecting him to have one.

Still he is probably our best player. Farah is close but I think over the course of the year Benji has been the better performer.

I would like to see him take the right option more often but I wouldn't swap him for any player in the game. He is a great representative of the club and one of the best players in the game. I just think he could be the best player in the game if he simply took the right option a little more often.

everyone is critisicing his grubber kick
if that kick had of made it through the panthers legs and lawrence/tuqiri picked it up everyone would be praising him!!
So many people on this forum are just so negative and seem like they want to critisice everything about our team even when things are good.
We are equal second, guaranteed finals for the first time in 5 years and have appeared to take a turn for the great in our playing. You guys really need to lighten up.
Benji makes some decisions that go badly yes, but they can also go right!

gazza. who would you swap him for. if you dont rate him ( which IMO is way out there ) but each to their own. for me he will always be a superstar of the game and also the way he operates off the field is exceptional and he is a great role model for our game.

The way he started the season I thought he was going to dominate the game this year, runaway Dally M winner, the whole works. He was running at the line a bit more rather than crabbing across field, toning down those crazy plays and generally just kicking arse.

What happened after that first month? Was it Moltzen's injury? He's still making great plays every week but seems to have gone back to a lot of mental plays that are obviously going to frustrate fans. Anyway I guess we can all hope he'll return to his best at the bidness end of the season

Still wouldn't swap him for anyone :master:

As much as Benji denies it he needs a quality half to work with. He wont come out and say that obviously but the proof is in the pudding. 05 he has Prince, start of 10 he has Moltzen, the rest of the time we haven't seen anywhere near his best. Lui is still a work in progress but am hopeful he will come good, he lacks confidence more than anything.

A lot of people get carried away with him as he is 'the face' of the WT as well as a champion bloke (weekend with Lleyton a classic example).

As a footballer though he makes far too many mistakes for my liking. Even on the weekend, threw intercepts trying miracle plays, in touch on the zero tackle, threw two grounders and yet people will still put him in their top 3 players every week and blame Lui or Benji's lack of confidence, or Sheens, or his forwards or anything else but Benji.

For a bloke on his coin he should be one of our best each week and simply he isnt, he hasnt had a great year but having said that we are in equal second and if he fires and cuts out the dumb errors he could win us another premiership by himself and theres not many players in the NRL you could say that about.

I'm with Gazza in a way. I wish someone would take a plunge and have Benji play fullback. I think the best combination Wests could have would be 1 - Marshall, 6 - Lui, 7 - Moltzen. Just me though I reckon.

i dont care where they play benji he a tiger and ill never forget 2005 and tha step done it so many times pass the clothes line when i had an ale or 2

Benji is a champ…wouldnt swap him for any player. He'll own the finals series if we can get another win - it's players like him who always stand out.

I been going to tigers matches since the early sixties and Benji probably is not the best footballer we have had but he sure is the most exciting. He is great for our club on and off the field and iam sure glad we have him locked away for another five years. You have to expect the odd shockers it comes with the way he plays the game.

I still have my doubts, I thought towards the back end of last season he was forming some sort of consistency. He then kept that form up for the first few weeks of this season, but ever since Moltzen got injured, his consistency has become a trainwreck. I remember how good he was against the Warriors in Rd 12 and then the crap he served up in Rd 13 against the Dogs (thanks to the fowards we won that game). Until he starts to string 2-3 SOLID games together playing the percentages, he will not get such an approval rating from me.

He's a mercurial talent, but has absolutely no concept of risk vs reward ,& always opts for the high risk option regardless of the state of the game.
Either he doesnt have a coach of any worth,and/or he ignores him,but either way he doesnt come close to realising his true potential.
We wouldnt score too many tries without him to be honest, but we'd score a lot more if he showed a little more patience & maturity & didnt seek the headlines & plaudits …. & played for a team win rather than the next gushing "I love Benji" Phil Gould interview
