Bennett & Boyd

Does anyone else think it's weird that Darius Boyd just blindly follows Wayne Bennett to every club he decides to coach? Why is he so scared to be coached by anyone else? He might find a new dimension to his game if he gave a different coach a try. Anyhow, it looks like he now has the inside running for the fullback spot at the Broncos, forcing both Barba and Hoffman to look elsewhere apparently. Oh and Ben Hannant has signed with the Cowboys - like _they_ need a bigger pack.

yeh it's just not right.

boyd has found a comfort zone with bennet and he doesnt wanna get out of it. cant believe a mentor like bennet allows that to happen tbh.

Uncle Wayne obviously rates Darius hughly….

It's Bennet who wants Boyd at the Broncos

Not really, Bennett is the father he never had.

So what's the story with Boyd and his real father ?

His parents wanted nothing to do with him

He was raised by his grandparents and I think there was lots of problems with this relationship also

To give you some idea how bad it must of been for him , he was voted players player in a SOO game , when he accepted the award he burst into tears and told the players that they were his only family

One of the reasons Bennett is so loved by his players , he treats them like his own sons

Don't quote me word for word on this Bennett comment to players parents

" my aim isn't to turn your son into a footballer , my aim is to turn your son into a man "

Either died or wasn't around. He was raised by his grandmother.

That would explain his decisions regarding Bennett and his mental health issues he suffers from .. My bad … Thx GNR .

Look i respect Bennett would be like a Father figure to most , he certainly has the respect of the players .
I can't judge him cause i don't know him obviously but the way he carries himself in the media at times is dreadful and if he is that Father figure to Darius Boyd well he certainly has taught him well how to be so abrupt .
Dairus Boyd is a Man and at some stage you have to let your son stand on his own 2 feet and face the World on your own , surely that can not bring stability in his life with every 3 years changing Clubs and following Bennett like he can't cope with the World without him . That has to be adding to his Mental health issues , his Wife is probably saying to him " how much longer are you going to follow him for "? That's just what i reckon….
I bet Barba deep down is furious .

Mental Health issues just don't go away. Its about managing them, and surrounding yourself with people who understand the triggers. I am pretty sure Darius would not be playing the game if it wasn't for Wayne Bennett. The pressures that come with being in the public eye are not conducive with sufferers. In my eyes its a great relationship that has allowed a perhaps otherwise troubled soul to achieve at the highest level in the game.

Can't knock a man for compassion and the capacity to connect.
Bennett will definitely be remembered for those traits, as well as his premierships (the fact he was rolling in cash and talent aside).
Darius will move on when he's ready I'm sure.

Totally agree with both Telltails and guyofthetiger. R Legue and Bennet have given Boyd a chance to succeed in life where otherwise i shudder to think what would have become of him. As a youngster growing up his story is very sad. Family not around, no one to really care about him. Bennett would have been the first person Boyd would've opened up to and trusted with his feelings. Their relationship is more then just player and coach type. Apart from Boyd, there's other players that are willing to follow and play under Bennett and have done so over the years. This alone tells you something about the man.

That's the key element Potter was missing!

I never wish injury on anyone, but I'm glad this has rooted the Broncos.

Any bet these clowns get an exemption on their salary cap though…

Moved mountains (barba/hoofma) to get him. Has a touch of Khama about it. They will have no probs filling fullback with prob Milford or hodges but that would leave them short at 5/8 or to a lesser degree at centre.
