Big name player in trouble

I don't agree that he should of been sacked.
But he brought shame and negative press onto the NRL and our great game. So what do the NRL do?…..they consult with the Roosters and take their opinion on board in regards to suspension length/fines etc. That is beyond belief IMO.
So now every club gets to negotiate with the NRL in regards to player suspensions for bringing our code into disrepute? No friggin chance, that is just for the rich and powerful I bet. Will be interesting to see what happens to the next bloke to stuff up off-field like Pearce did....if he is from a battling club he will be punted from the game in all probability.
The double standards in the NRL is the most sickening aspect of this whole saga. Yet again.

The spin doctors at the Chooks can have a well earned rest and little junior-junior will not have to front every media outlet every second day. The NRL have backed down by four weeks and the chooks have copped an extra two weeks on the six weeks they were expecting, so i guess they had a victory.

I am happy with eight weeks as long as we have consistency. Anyway let the season begin

8 games and $125K fine.

Uncle Nick strikes again.

Actually only 75 k if he doesn't reoffend

Look I still think they needed to come out publicly and say it is his last chance

Might be time for some liney lineys down at Rorters HQ.
Wait,sorry that never happened 😕

*Poof*… Just disappeared

So now this penalty has been given to Mitchell Pearce, does this mean a precedent has been set.
I agree with Fade To Black, " The double standards in the NRL is the most sickening aspect of this whole saga. Yet again."

Roosters & NRL, seen this all before. Clubs get preferential treatment. Over the year's, Manly & NSWRFL.

Seems to me, it all depends on how much influence, your club's power broker has, as to what punishment you get.

the stats show that it is the same with the refs as well which is why it helps to have a captain with a big mouth to point out injustices

Don't know about that BBF….Farah was always pretty keen to give the refs a serve and it never did us much good.
It all depends on who you play for.

The club is entitled to lobby on his behalf. That is just procedural fairness. Eight weeks and a big fine seems pretty fair to me. They over-stepped the mark with Carney and I don't think they should repeat the mistake here just to save face.

News just in, bash the **** out of your missus - continue playing.
Do something stupid while on the grog - 8 weeks and $100k.

The NRL are an absolute joke. They've now set a dangerous precedent.
What about Greg Inglis? Robert Lui? Greg Bird? Kirisome Auva'a? These guys are all thugs and should have either been put on strict probation or wiped from the game.
But Mitchell Pearce gets caught behaving like a dumbass and his career is put in jeopardy. Guys like this are dummies who need help. Guys like the above are thugs who have no place in society.

Something extra. What if it wasn't a high-profile player? If one of the plodders does a similar act, will he be fined $125k and lose 8 weeks? 8 weeks is a lot. For a fringe player that could be his career over.

It should have been Pearce's career over. He got off lightly if you ask me. He's not remorseful over what he did, he's embarassed only for the fact it made headlines and showed him to be the arrogant goose he has always been.

NRL are saying the Roosters have handed down this punishment, its clear the Roosters wanted much much less, so much BS going on in this drama, the NRL clearly wanting to distance themselves from it and have it appear this is the Roosters doing, pretty severe penalty imo but warranted, I expected them to bow and give him less

If as claimed here by some posters that Mitch cannot or will not change I wonder how he could surpass last effort? He has to outdo Carney and the other contestants.

The way the NRL police these incidents with high profile players is totally inconsistent and left me with absolutely no faith that they can routinely reach a fair judgement on each case with some sort of consistency.

Snake Stewart was stood down for four weeks on suspicion for allegedly sexually assaulting a young woman, before being found not guilty. The NRL then had to cover their arses and say it was for being pissed at the season launch function. Rob Lui bashed his missus twice and plead guilty the second time and was rightfully banned for a year (should have been permanent IMO,) Kirisome Auva'a belts his missus in Jan 2014, pleads guilty and Souths let him play in the GF. Todd Carney pisses in his mouth and gets run out of town, Pearce makes an unwanted advance on a woman off his face (not the first time,) gets 8 weeks and a five figure fine. Joel Monaghan didn't even get kicked out of the country, he left of his own volition.

No consistency whatsoever. If any of these guys were reserve graders or fringe first graders, they'd all be looking at the end of their careers.

What on Earth does that have to do with anything?

And where is the CEO in all of this ??

Ohhh , that's right , 6 months later and we still haven't signed one yet

I wonder how many national sports competitions world wide go into a season without having a CEO ??

Amateur hour at its best

Some cultures have a greater preponderance for certain activities frowned upon in modern Oz.
