@wd in perth said:Every time I read someone bagging Austin I think that they really are living in some sort of world of unreality. Fact is, he was great for us last year when most others didn't even try. He scored plenty, proved he was at the time the best we had, stated quite clearly that he wanted to earn his much wanted no.6 jersey and did, by his own actions, more than enough to warrant ownership of that. Now, at Canberra, when everyone says they're a lost cause of a club and team, he plays a starring role week after week and still, people here say he's no good. I can only shake my head and wonder what it is certain players need to do to be accepted as a top notch player. Yet, those same judges refer to unproven hopefuls as a better option. Go figure…...

I like Blake Austin a lot, he is tenacious and a real competitor. I would not have let him go if we could have avoided it.
But we signed Brooks and Moses for 4 years before Austin even came on board. We tied up a lot of our salary with that decision, and we are committed to playing Brooks and Moses for as long as we can.
Austin does not fit into that plan. He knew it, we all knew it… it was not fair to keep him hanging on as a #14 or backup.
So enjoy his play at Canberra, god knows they have next to nothing else in the halves. Wish him well. Stop carrying on like a devastated ex who cannot get over the break up.

Mitchell Moses is 20 years old.
At age 20 Blake Austin was much hyped at Penrith, debuted and failed. He was then dropped.
At age 24 Blake Austin was reintroduced into FG and is now showing the running capabilities everyone knew he possessed when he debuted at lock.
At age 20 Mitchell Moses is much hyped and not living up to the hype but showing glimpses in games. Mitchell will not be dropped because the Tigers are willing to fail for a year or two if it means they will be consistently successful in a year or two.
Blake Austin is now a great runner of the ball.
Blake Austin is not a playmaker. Blake Austin is a hog.
Blake Austin is not a five-eight in the modern game.
At age 24 Mitchell Moses will be a much much much better five-eight then Blake Austin currently is.

Most of us (myself included,) think it was a stupid idea to let him go. Our concerns have been vindicated.
We are where we are, and complaining about this decision won't improve or change our current situation though. Some of you must like picking at your scabs.

I have massive doubts Moses will be an origin bolter in the eyes of Stirlo, Johns, Fitler. Austin has never been a speed bump, even at the same age or younger than Moses. Lazy or poor defensive form, but never a speed bump.

Sterlo rates him. Straight from his mouth at World Square in the city when he was in flip flops and a t shirt a few months ago when I ran into him.

Sterlo also rated Tom Humble at one stage.
