Blake Austin

if he is behind anasta in the pecking order,he must be very ordinary.

Anyone behind Anasata must be terrible.

To early too say either way of course, but give Austin has just been given the arse by a club which feels the need to sign Jamie Soward I suspect the magic eight ball would say: "the signs are not good".

Why don't you wait to see how he goes in first grade before writing him off. How often have you seen him play? I have only seen him play a couple of times ( I suspect a couple of times more than some of you ) and he has been the best player on the field by far. Wise up.

Which is why we bought Austin. So we have a bit of competition there and can pick the better one because I don't know who is in fact better. We clearly need halves, he was the best they could find.

Moltzen
Anasta
Brooks
Paea
Madden

Is about all we have without Austin and two aren't 1st grade material. 3 halves for a season, given what we just went through, is really not enough.

There is also
Curtis Sironen
Matt Mulcahy
Mitchell Moses
Chris Lawrence

Sironen is a backrower, Moses is too light and inexperienced, (74kg), Mulcahy is also too young and not that amazing for his age and defiinitely won't perform very well in the NRL. He's very low on the pecking order. And chris lawrence? well when we're selecting Lawrence at 5/8 god help us all….

#6 austin/moltzen
#7 brooks

either way, i think we are much better off than last season.

With Austin and Brooks I think we are definitely better off. With Moltzen and Brooks I think we are much, much worse.

I can't argue here, while Mulcahy was the X factor in the 2012 NYC Premiership he simply didn't progress, he was on the bench for a while this year and hasn't bulked up at all, while I don't want to see him discarded from the system just where he sits in the system is another matter, what's wrong with sending the fringe players to the Magpies or Burwood North Ryde United or some affiliated club in the Sydney Shield, the more clubs the Tigers can have the better for development the better.

Got a lot of improving to do before even thinking about first grade

True, hopefully we can see a combo formed similar to dce and foran.

A gamble was taken on them as well.

DCE killed it week in week out in Qld Cup

There lays the difference Consistancy

True happy, but there is a big dif between 1st grade and any other comp.

Ask Shannon McDonnell, was consistently the best player in premier league team. Never converted to a regular 1stgrader

I agree with this combination. Moltzen can fill the no.7 as well if required. I'.m really glad Tim stayed at our club, we will need his experience, lets hope he remains injury free for the 2014 season :stuck_out_tongue:

My biggest fear with Austin is it could turn out to be Jacob Miller version 2\. Loads of potential but just not quite good enough for first grade. I don't think Jacob got the right amount of time to prove his worth, but he got a better offer so he did the right thing for himself. But he has hardly set the world on fire since moving to the ESL so maybe the club dodged a bullet.

Austin has a different game, but gee it reminds me of Miller the way he's been talked up. Time will tell, but a decent signing regardless.

Good point ….. The results are there for all to see.

Well that and DCE folded like a cheap accordion when the BRET side played a trial up there against him and his side

He even looks and acts like Miller… I doubt Potter will give Austin much consideration in 2014\. Anasta he will go with for his experience and guidance especially for Brooks. Remember Anasta played his best game for as when Brooks played v Dragons...

You would assume Austin would be in consideration given Potter was head coach when we signed him to our top squad.

Austin will be better than miller, but he won't be a superstar. I think he's a good fill in at 5/8 for a season until Moses or someone else fills the void. And there is an off chance he will link very well with Brooks given he has a good running game and brooks a good kicking game, so you never know.

Miller was too quiet, whether that was benji/farah i dont know but it wasn't working we gave him a few trial games, 6 or so NRL games nothing really so we removed him and then injuries ****ed us up hard.
