Blind Touchies

Deadset howler! Lucky it didn't cost us the game, may have hurt our for and against.

Couldn't the bunker have said something?

They only get involved if it helps the broncos or roosters we are zero chance

I've been saying it for years. Have sensors in the ball and all players' boots. Sensor can tell whether players' feet are on the ground, relative to the field. That way, they can track on-side instantly. It would pick up feet going over the sideline. Just need to check when players dive and other parts of their bodies go over.

Could probably program it to rule on forward passes too, based on the movement of the ball.

Sadly, common sense is not very common :deadhorse:

It was an incorrect call but I wouldn’t call it a howler, his foot only just touched the line.

I reckon it was pretty bad - if touchies aren't there to see feet on sidelines, then what is their real purpose? Sticking flags up for kicks?

Their domain is first and foremost the sideline.

They’ve been mostly incompetent forever- and please, take the mics away from them and let the refs think for themselves

I've been wondering, surely there's a laser or something they can point down the sideline to fire when a player puts his foot out?

Curvature of the ground for drainage would likely make it struggle to pick up ones such as yesterday.

That said, it confuses that the touchies nearly always get the goal line calls correct for kick defenders leaving the ground from a distance, yet often cannot to see what is virtually under their nose in a crouched stance on the sidelines.

Sorry Geo, Im a teacher and I can't help correcting your grammar. There is no apostrophe in touchies as the word you are trying to use is a plural for touchy, not an expression of possession.
But getting back to the thread, the 40/ 20 gaff was a howler. Disallowed Nofo tiry was dubious, especially when there were numerous Raiders forward passes in general play. Is it just me or do the oppositon seem to constantly get away with a few every game?
And what about the tackle above the horizontal that caused the gash in Farah's head?? Finally, what are people's read on the 5th tackle penalty against Marshall, following the covered up kick in front of our try line? Nit picking or what? It was certainly no worse than countless other encroachments and could have cost us the game, like all the other bum decisions. I've never known a Tigers team to rise above so much adversity, regarding officiating, in one season and it's a testimony to their resolve.

My wife is a chalk chucker(as well as Minister for Finance and War), so I have to watch my P & Q.

Their second try came off the back of a dodgy hold down penalty on the 5th.

Meanwhile they laid all over the tackle all day.

lol…...............We're all experts when we see the replay slowed down x20\. They don't have the benefit of that so we need to cut them some slack when it comes to the really close calls. They were'nt exactly howlers like we've seen this year but I guess you can't please everybody.

The Rapana one was a dead set howler..

It was an incorrect call but I wouldn’t call it a howler, his foot only just touched the line.

Is it that difficult for the linesman to tell the ref he is not sure if the player or ball went out and it should be checked?

If you have technology - use it.

If you don't want to use it - do away with it.

Hodgson striking at Farah when we were on their line was the only blatant dodgy call I remember going against them.

That's on make it up as I go along Cummins …this is about Touchies..

Thanks for fixing my grammar but i prefer Touchie's...both of them..

Thought we were also blessed with no offside call when Taylor dived on the ball after it came off Nofo, who looked clearly behind him. We were ripe for the picking had they gotten more possession.

I'd have to go back to that one. I remember seeing the replay and thinking Nofo had moved forward not sure how that impacts the decision though.

Was there a replay of the forward pass? I didn't see it during the telecast. More than a coincidence given the recent criticism of forward passes.

Was blowing up over the no-call on the 40/20\. Don't understand how he missed that. Looked to be in great position to call it.

No replay of the “supposed” forward pass .
:bash

I felt sorry for the refs. But by gee one of the touchies was red hot.Dont know which one but the amount of times I heard his voice talking to the refs and it was ALWAYS anti Tigers. The most telling moment was when Robbie was penalised for not being on his tryline when we just regained the ball it was a very late penalty and you could see in the eyes of Cummins he didn't want to blow it but was obliged to because some touchie had given him the B.S call.Who was the biggest beneficiary of us losing yesterday?Yep the Brisbane Broncos and believe me their was one touchie trying his best to get the Broncos result.

This is what should happen but the NRL have regulations about when it can and can’t be used which is causing issues

If Cummins didn’t want to blow it he wouldn’t have. The only time a red can’t over rule a touchie is when a flag goes up

Funny how we were pinged for not playing the ball with the foot and Junior Paulo had at least 6 or 7 PTB's where he didn't even attempt to kick it back, it was very noticeable live and even more so watching last nights replay.
They just pull random penalties out of their proverbial at the drop of a hat, no consistency whatsoever. We were lucky to come out on top of the Raiders once the refs got on their coattails and did their best to get a Canberra victory.

****Did you watch the sharks V raiders game a few weeks back.He can but with the touchie screaming in his ear he felt compelled. You could see it in his tone and body language.
