Brandon Wakeham #267

Unlike in past years, we have a player that has taken advantage of an opportunity to be a part of a poor team & actually build their personal reputation.

It can certainly be argued that Hastings did the same last year.

I'd suggest that Wakeham might be performing AT LEAST as well as Hastings did, but without the fanfare & media support.

An interesting player, he is the one I misjudged the most, followed by Bateman.
Seems to be trying to make the most of what he's got and I love players who do that
Same here. I was worried about Bateman. Love him changing the angles in attack and his defence has been great.
Love the way Wakeman strikes the ball. His goal kicking has been excellent

Interesting point. He seems to fit into the team dynamic better than Hastings did. I can’t think of a counter argument. I think he defends and converts better than Hastings.

I thought he was garbage at the start of the season. He has been steadily improving each week. Good on him. Keep getting better and maybe he could be our answer at 6?

Every so often a discarded half shows up at a club out of nowhere and makes a name for themselves. It was Jamal Fogarty a few years back. Maybe now it's Brandon's time to shine and make a career for himself.

Imagine if you didn't specifically remember this game and there was a trivia q. about who was WTs 5/8 in their highest scoring game? Wakeham would be about the 20th guess. Then follow it up with who scored 4 tries against a game against Bulldogs
Keith Leilua! Moses made his debut that day!

He’s been solid and with our forwards going forward and him doing his job he has helped us out immensely. ID HAVE HIM OVER DOUHEI.

Point of difference for him - Goal kicking. This is a massive help to us. We haven’t had a reliable goal kicker since Hodgo. I’d be holding on to him. Takes a lot of pressure off Brooks.
His defence has been good. Goal kicking excellent. Genuine half. Not a top shelf one but is improving atm moment. Hopefully continues to improve

I am really happy for him hopefully he improves with some good coaching from Sheen's and Benji but he doesn't have to be a super star

I think we are seeing a better API this year because he is not second to Clearly and he can be number 1 Brooks number 2 Bula 3. Brendan 4 Bateman 5

Good bloke
Thanks for the link. I couldn't find the interview with Wakeham, but the episode I listened to had an old Wests Magpies hooker who called in about the so called record score we made against the Cows.

His name is John Purcell and he played for the Magpies in round 1 at Lidcombe against Balmain in 1974. Wests won 65 - 5. They scored 14 tries and Tony Ford kicked 10 goals. He was only one of 3 players that didn't score a try that day.

14 tries and 10 goals today would be 76 points. He just wanted to set the record straight.

It was 62-5 and I was there. It was a great day because my brother and father were Balmain supporters. Balmain went on to beat Wests in the 2nd round.

I think it's about time to acknowledge that Wakeham could actually be part of the solution at Wests Tigers.

Excellent goal kicking. Surprisingly good defence. A pretty decent foil to the running version of Luke Brooks. And not a woeful field kicker. And has started to offer a few tricks around the goal line.

Sometimes opportunity produces something from marginal players. I think Wakeham is developing into a regular starting half/5-8.
