BRET Side To Face The Centurions

1st Minute: underway and the Centurions complete their first set courtesy of a good kick by Scott Briggs.

3rd Minute: Peter Mata'utia has busted them open and given the ball to a flying McDonnell however he loses his footing and is easy prey for the Tigers defence.

5th Minute: TRY First try of the day goes to Junior Moors who simply barges over from close range. Soft try in the end. Meaney converts and the the Tigers lead it 6-0.

7th Minute: off the restart the Tigers can't handle the kick-off and the Centurions will now have a great opportunity to strike back. A grubber on the last is forced over the line by the Tigers and they will have to drop it out again.

10th Minute: TRY a great try by the Tigers! Mullaney split the Centurions open, offloaded to Jack who passes to Ndaira who spotted Jake Clarke wide open to his left in puts in a beautiful grubber which sits up perfectly for Clarke and he scores a great try. Meaney converts and the Tigers are racing the clock. Tigers 12 CCC 0.

13th Minute: another chance for the home side but Mata'utia who is playing 5/8 today throws a cut out ball to Tua that has too much on it and it flies over the touchline. The Centurions are looking a little rusty after the bye.

16th Minute: the Centurions are starting to dominate field position but the Tigers defence continues to repel them.

19th Minute: the Centurions are looking a little disorganised with the loss of Ryan Stig. The last two sets Con MIka has found himself at second receiver and been forced to kick and has thrown an intercept. They need Scott Briggs to put his hand up to help break this staunch Tigers defence.

22nd Minute: another attacking raid comes to nothing for the Centurions. This time Briggs does get his hands on it on the last but his high ball is defused well by Jake Mullaney in goal.

25th Minute: starting to sound like a broken record but the Centurions try as they might cannot break this Tigers defence. They have had all of the ball and just cant capatalise. Who will put their hand up for the home team?

30th Minute: TRY the Tigers are in again… They have had 5 sets in the Centurions 20 and scored 3 times.. while the Centurions would have had to have had at least 10 sets at the other end and haven't looked like scoring! Sam Latu was the man to score for the Tigers and Meaney was unable to convert. Tigers 16 CCC 0.

34th Minute: The Tigers have been dominant thus far and that is pretty spectacular given they have spent most of the half coming out of their own end. Heaven help the Centurions if they actually start getting some good field position.

37th Minute: in the shadows of the break the Centurions made one last attempt to break them up the middle but the final pass by Alec Fata goes to ground. A frustrating first half to say the least for the Centurions.

Half Time well I would like to be a fly on the wall in the Centurions dressing sheds! It appears they have brought their troubles from Harker Oval a fortnight ago here to Morrie Breen. No such concerns for the Tigers as they are looking every bit the side that was a contender in 2010.

Tigers now up 28-10 after 60 minutes. Latu has a double and Flanagan scored in the second half also.

McDonnell still loses his footing aye. He used to do that alot at our club too.

Eshman didn't get a run today off the bench. Hope he gets a run next week!! Bit hard for Fletch to inject him into the squad when BRET played so well today. :frowning:

Very impressed in the way BRET side played today.Cant believe the wholehearted effort Mark Flanagan put in for such a small fellow.Schirnack brothers were strong also.As this was a local game for me,I took quite a interest in a number of players I hear about on the forum. Mullaney and Moors I was disappointed in,I can understand now why I haven't seen them in first grade.

Balmain Ryde-Eastwood Tigers showed some sparkling form in defeating the Central Coast Centurions 34-16 at Morrie Breen Oval on Saturday in round 13 of the NSW Cup.

The Tigers were on the board after 4 minutes of play when front rower Junior Moors scored next to the posts, capitalising on a great break from fullback Jake Mullaney. Centre Sean Meaney converted for a 6-0 lead.

Five minutes later, Tigers centre Jake Clarke crossed near the posts after another superb break from Mullaney after good work by five eighth Rhys Jack and hooker George Ndaira. Meaney converted for a 12-0 lead.

Tigers winger Sam Latu scored in the left hand corner in the 31st minute after taking advantage of an overlap to easily cross for a 16-0 lead.

The Centurions were determined to get back into the game and 6 minutes after half-time, winger Jarrod Tua scored in the left hand corner for a 16-4 scoreline.

Five minutes later Tigers lock Mark Flanagan crossed under the posts from a Moors offload. Meaney converted for a 22-4 lead.

Centurions centre Simon Williams scored out wide in the 15th minute taking advantage of disorganised defence on the left hand side of the field. Peter Mata’utia converted for a 22-10 scoreline.

The Tigers then scored back to back tries through Latu and second-rower Rhys Curran to stretch their lead to 34-10 before Centurions replacement Alex Fata scored out wide for the 34-16 scoreline.

The Tigers play Western Suburbs Magpies at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday, June 11, at 3pm.

Balmain Ryde-Eastwood 34 (Sam Latu 2, Junior Moors, Jake Clarke, Mark Flanagan, Rhys Curran tries; Sean Meaney 5 goals) d Central Coast 16 (Jarrod Tua, Simon Williams, Alex Fata tries, Peter Mata’utia 2 goals) at Morrie Breen Oval.
