I really rate Meaney much so i thought it was a good time to check him out.
After watching the game I am bit concerned about having him on the bench this week.
Kicked ok, did nothing else. Really can't see what Sheens sees in him.

I didn't know that Bell played either, I thought he was out for the week. Played well and deserves his place back in the team.

I don't watch too much NSW Cup, but I didn't realise Cronulla and Melbourne Storm have some sort of joint venture going in the NSW Cup.
Maurice Blair, Will Chambers,Sisa Waqa and more playing for Cronulla ?….....Strange setup

Seen the last 20 minutes & noticed meaney missed 3 tackles in a 5 minute period.Wasn't impressed in his previous stints in FG & was very surprised he was named on the bench this week.

Yeh, Grant has still got a bit to go before he's ready for the NRL. As bigdamo said the rest of the team was pretty poor especially in the first half. He's still got some issues in defense and didn't get too many opportunities in attack. Cronulla outplayed them all over the park.

So… how was Grant?

For his 1st proper game he was o.k in a poor performing team.
Reading defence etc and effective tackles will be the defining skills and they weren't tested too much in this game.
he'll need numerous games in NSW cup just to practise these things in actual game time.

Obviously he was a bit unsure of things at times but when he knew what was required he did alright.

He did about 4-6 hit ups, hit the line hard and made meters everytime except the one time the ball was forced out.
He ran down a line break with ease but more impressively he cleaned up a grubber in goals (something he wouldn't do to often in union) that looked like was going to be an easy try.

Besides his easy try he got the ball once out on the wing where im sure he wanted to stretch out (and he did) but knew there wasn't going to be enough room (and there wasn't). He tossed the ball back in to no one & it was lost.
His bad 1 on 1 miss came from Meaney rushing up creating a 2 on 1 situation and before Grant could decide what to do the ball carrier stepped back inside and Grant's effort was ineffective.
His defence wasn't really tested as they were just running through Simona / Port combo on the other side.
I saw him defend in the centers on our line at least once with Meaney outside him for whatever reason.

I didn't see the game, but given it was his first in league at senior level I can't imagine he would look like a seasoned pro. I will reserve judgement for half way through the season.

Honestly that summary actually sounds pretty positive. The "things you can't teach" seem to be his strong points. He seems to have good awareness, reaction and obviously is a great athlete. Once he gets the hang of the finer points he'll shine.

But he is a classy player. I don't think it's doing him any good playing in shit team. Having two reserve grade teams is killing us! Stick him out side Lawrence and he will kill it! Also how is waters the starting hookers he's shite!
